Working from top to bottom, lib-
erally apply water to the vehicle
body, wheel wells and underside
of the vehicle to remove any dirt
and dust.
Wash the vehicle body using a
sponge or soft cloth, such as a
chamois.
For hard-to-remove marks, use
car wash soap and rinse thor-
oughly with water.
Wipe away any water.
Wax the vehicle when the water-
proof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean sur-
face, apply wax when the vehicle body
is cool.
QBefore car washes
Check that the fuel filler door and
charging port lid on your vehicle are
closed properly.
QAutomatic car washes
OBefore washing the vehicle:
• Fold the mirrors
• Turn off the power back door (if
equipped)
Start washing from the front of the vehi-
cle. Make sure to extend the mirrors
before driving.
OBrushes used in automatic car
washes may scratch the vehicle sur-
face, parts (wheel, etc.) and harm
your vehicle’s paint.
ORear spoiler may not be washable in
some automatic car washes. There
may also be an increased risk of dam-
age to vehicle.
QHigh pressure car washes
As water may enter the cabin, do not
bring the nozzle tip near the gaps
around the doors or perimeter of the
windows, or spray these areas continu-
ously.
QNote for a smart entry & start sys-
tem
If the door handle becomes wet while
the electronic key is within the effective
range, the door may lock and unlock
repeatedly. In that case, follow the fol-
lowing correction procedures to wash
the vehicle:
OPlace the key in a position 2 m (6 ft.)
or more separate from the vehicle
while the vehicle is being washed.
(Take care to ensure that the key is
not stolen.)
OSet the electronic key to battery-sav-
ing mode to disable the smart entry &
start system. (P.222)
QWheels and wheel ornaments
ORemove any dirt immediately by using
a neutral detergent.
OWash detergent off with water imme-
diately after use.
OTo protect the paint from damage,
make sure to observe the following
precautions.
• Do not use acidic, alkaline or abrasive
detergent.
• Do not use hard brushes.
• Do not use detergent on the wheels
when they are hot, such as after driv-
ing or parking in hot weather.

OStart the hybrid system with the power switch in ACC. The hybrid system
may not start with the power switch turned off. However, the hybrid sys-tem will operate normally from the
second attempt.
OThe power switch mode is recorded
by the vehicle. If the 12-volt battery is reconnected, the vehicle will return the power switch mode to the status it
was in before the 12-volt battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn off the power switch before disconnect
the 12-volt battery. Take extra care when connecting the 12-volt battery if the power switch mode prior to dis-
charge is unknown.
If the hybrid system will not start even after multiple attempts at all methods
above, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
WARNING
QChemicals in the 12-volt battery
The 12-volt battery contains poison- ous and corrosive sulfuric acid and
may produce hydrogen gas which is flammable and explosive. To reduce the risk of death or serious injury, take
the following precautions while work- ing on or near the 12-volt battery:
ODo not cause sparks by touching the 12-volt battery terminals with tools.
ODo not smoke or light a match near the 12-volt battery.
OAvoid contact with eyes, skin and clothes.
ONever inhale or swallow electrolyte.
OWear protective safety glasses when working near the 12-volt bat-tery.
OKeep children away from the 12-volt battery.
QWhere to safely charge the 12-volt battery
Always charge the 12-volt battery in
an open area. Do not charge the 12- volt battery in a garage or closed room where there is not sufficient
ventilation.
QEmergency measures regarding
electrolyte
OIf electrolyte gets in your eyes
Flush your eyes with clean water for
at least 15 minutes and get immediate
medical attention. If possible, con-
tinue to apply water with a sponge or
cloth while traveling to the nearest
medical facility.
OIf electrolyte gets on your skin
Wash the affected area thoroughly. If
you feel pain or burning, get medical
attention immediately.
OIf electrolyte gets on your clothes
It can soak through clothing on to
your skin. Immediately take off the
clothing and follow the procedure
above if necessary.
OIf you accidentally swallow electro- lyte
Drink a large quantity of water or milk.
Get emergency medical attention
immediately.
QWhen there is insufficient 12-volt
battery fluid
Do not use if there is insufficient fluid in the 12-volt battery. There is a pos-
sible danger that the 12-volt battery may explode.

Replace the tires if the treadwear indi-
cators are showing on a tire.
QWhen to replace your vehicle’s tires
Tires should be replaced if:
OThe treadwear indicators are showing on a tire.
OYou have tire damage such as cuts, splits, cracks deep enough to expose
the fabric, and bulges indicating inter- nal damage.
OA tire goes flat repeatedly or cannot be properly repaired due to the size or location of a cut or other damage.
If you are not sure, consult with any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
QTire life
Any tire over 6 years old must be checked by a qualified technician even if
it has seldom or never been used or damage is not obvious.
QIf the tread on snow tires wears down below 4 mm (0.16 in.)
The effectiveness of the tires as snow tires is lost.
Rotate the tires in the order shown.
To equalize tire wear and help extend
tire life, Toyota recommends that tire
rotation is carried out approximately
WARNING
QWhen inspecting or replacing tires
Observe the following precautions to
prevent accidents. Failure to do so may cause damage to parts of the drive train as well as
dangerous handling characteristics, which may lead to an accident result-ing in death or serious injury.
ODo not mix tires of different makes, models or tread patterns.Also, do not mix tires of remarkably
different treadwear.
ODo not use tire sizes other than those recommended by Toyota.
ODo not mix differently constructed tires (radial, bias-belted or bias-ply tires).
ODo not mix summer, all season and snow tires.
ODo not use tires that have been used on another vehicle.
Do not use tires if you do not know how they were used previously.
OVehicles with compact spare tire: Do not tow if your vehicle has a compact spare tire installed.
OVehicles with emergency tire punc-ture repair kit: Do not tow anything
if a tire that has been repaired using the emergency tire puncture repair kit is installed. The load on the tire
may cause unexpected damage to the tire.
NOTICE
QDriving on rough roads
Take particular care when driving on roads with loose surfaces or potholes.These conditions may cause losses in
tire inflation pressure, reducing the cushioning ability of the tires. In addi-tion, driving on rough roads may
cause damage to the tires them- selves, as well as the vehicle’s wheels and body.
QIf tire inflation pressure of each tire becomes low while driving
Do not continue driving, or your tires and/or wheels may be ruined.

still cannot be started, contact any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
QStopping the hybrid system
Shift the shift lever to P, set the parking brake and press the power switch as
you normally do when stopping the hybrid system.
QReplacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary
measure, it is recommended that the electronic key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is
depleted. ( P.486)
QAlarm (if equipped)
Using the mechanical key to lock the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechani- cal key when the alarm system is set, the alarm may be triggered. ( P.78)
QChanging power switch modes
Release the brake pedal and press the power switch in step 3 above. The hybrid system does not start and
modes will be changed each time the switch is pressed. ( P.276)
If you have a set of jumper (or
booster) cables and a second vehi-
cle with a 12-volt battery, you can
jump start your vehicle by following
the steps below.
1 Vehicles with alarm (P.78)
Confirm that the electronic key
is being carried.
When connecting the jumper (or booster) cables, depending on the situ-
ation, the alarm may activate and the doors locked. ( P.79)

fuse box cover.
If the 12-volt battery is
discharged
The following procedures may
be used to start the hybrid sys-
tem if the vehicle’s 12-volt bat-
tery is discharged.
You can also call any autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer or a qualified
repair shop.

When trouble arises
a malfunction, as the hybrid system
will start normally on the second attempt.
OThe power switch mode is memorized by the vehicle. When the 12-volt bat-tery is reconnected, the system will
return to the mode it was in before the 12-volt battery was discharged. Before disconnecting the 12-volt bat-
tery, turn the power switch off. If you are unsure what mode the power switch was in before the 12-volt
battery discharged, be especially careful when reconnecting the 12-volt battery.
QWhen replacing the 12-volt battery
OUse a 12-volt battery that conforms to European regulations.
OUse a 12-volt battery that the case size is same as the previous one
(LN2), 20 hours rate capacity (20HR) is equivalent (55Ah) or greater, and performance rating (CCA) is equiva-
lent (345A) or greater. • If the sizes differ, the 12-volt battery cannot be properly secured.
• If the 20 hour rate capacity is low, even if the time period where the vehi-cle is not used is a short time, the 12-
volt battery may discharge and hybrid system may not be able to start.
OUse a ventilation type calcium battery
OUse a 12-volt battery with a handle. If
a 12-volt battery without a handle is used, removal is more difficult.
OWhen removing the 12-volt battery:  P.462
OAfter replacing, firmly attach the fol- lowing items to the exhaust hole of the 12-volt battery.
• Use the exhaust hose that was attached to the 12-volt battery before replacing and confirm that it is firmly
connected to the hole section of the vehicle.• Use the exhaust hole plug included
with the new 12-volt battery or the one installed on the battery prior to the replacement. (Depending on the new
12-volt battery installed, the exhaust
hole may be plugged.)

OThe terminals can be connected to the body side when the negative terminal of the 12-volt battery is disconnected,
as shown in the illustration.
WARNING
QWhen removing the battery ter-
minals
Always remove the negative (-) termi- nal first. If the positive (+) terminal
contacts any metal in the surrounding area when the positive (+) terminal is removed, a spark may occur, leading
to a fire in addition to electrical shocks and death or serious injury.
