Seat belts
Make sure that all occupants
are wearing their seat belts
before driving the vehicle.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions to
reduce the risk of injury in the event of sudden braking, sudden swerving or an accident.
Failure to do so may cause death or serious injury.
■Wearing a seat belt
●Ensure that all passengers wear a seat belt.
●Always wear a seat belt properly.
●Each seat belt should be used by one person only. Do not use a seat belt for more than one person at
once, including children.
●Toyota recommends that children
be seated in the rear seat and always use a seat belt and/or an appropriate child restraint system.
●To achieve a proper seating posi-tion, do not recline the seat more
than necessary. The seat belt is most effective when the occupants are sitting up straight and well back
in the seats.
●Do not wear the shoulder belt under
your arm.
●Always wear your seat belt low and
snug across your hips.
■Pregnant women
Obtain medical advice and wear the seat belt in the proper way. ( →P. 3 4 )
Women who are pregnant should position the lap belt as low as possi-ble over the hips in the same manner
as other occupants, extending the shoulder belt completely over the shoulder and avoiding belt contact
with the rounding of the abdominal area.
If the seat belt is not worn properly,
not only the pregnant woman, but also the fetus could suffer death or serious injury as a result of sudden
braking or a collision.
■People suffering illness
Obtain medical advice and wear the seat belt in the proper way. ( →P. 3 4 )
■When children are in the vehicle
→ P. 6 2
■Seat belt damage and wear
●Do not damage the seat belts by allowing the belt, plate, or buckle to
be jammed in the door.

z Prioritize and observe the warn-
ings, as well as the laws and reg-
ulations for child restraint
systems.
z Use a child restraint system until
the child becomes large enough
to properly wear the vehicle’s
seat belt.
z Choose a child restraint system
appropriate to the age and size
of the child.
z Note that not all child restraint
systems can fit in all vehicles.
Before using or purchasing a
child restraint system, check the
compatibility of the child restraint
system with seat positions.
( →P. 5 1 )
Child restraint systems
Before installing a child
restraint system in the vehicle,
there are precautions that need
to be observed, different types
of child restraint systems, as
well as installation methods,
etc., written in this manual.
z Use a child restraint system
when riding with a small child
that cannot properly use a seat
belt. For the child’s safety,
install the child restraint sys-
tem to a rear seat. Be sure to
follow the installation method
that is in the operation manual
enclosed with the restraint sys-
tem.
z The use of a Toyota genuine
child restraint system is rec-
ommended, as it is safer to
use in this vehicle. Toyota gen-
uine child restraint systems
are made specifically for
Toyota vehicles. They can be
purchased at a Toyota dealer.

i-Size child restraint system fixed with an ISOFIX lower anchorage
If your child restraint system is “i-Size” category, you can install it on the
positions mentioned by i-U in the table below.
Child restraint system category can be found in the restraint system man-
ual.
Key of letters inserted in the above table:
i-U: Suitable position for i-Size child restraint system forward-facing and/or
rearward-facing
X: Not suitable position for i-Size child restraint system
When securing some types of child
restraint systems in rear seat, it
may not be possible to properly use
the seat belts in positions next to
the child restraint without interfering
with it or affecting seat belt effec-
tiveness. Be sure your seat belt fits
snugly across your shoulder and
low on your hips. If it does not, or if
it interferes with the child restraint,
move to a different position. Failure
to do so may result in death or seri-
ous injury.
z When installing a child restraint
in the rear seats, adjust the front
seat so that it does not interfere
with the child or child restraint
system.
z When installing a child seat with
support base, if the child seat
interferes with the seatback
when latching it into the support
base, adjust the seatback rear-
ward until there is no interfer-
ence.
z If the seat belt shoulder anchor is
ahead of the child seat belt
guide, move the seat cushion
forward.
