Before driving
CAUTION
nSeat adjustment
lDo not recline the seat more than necessary when the vehicle is in motion 
to reduce the risk of sliding under the lap belt. If the seat is too reclined, 
the lap belt may slide past the hips and apply restraint forces directly to the 
abdomen or your neck may contact the shoulder belt, increasing the risk of 
death or serious injury in the event of an accident.
l After adjusting the seat, make sure that the seat is locked in position.
n After returning the seatback to the upright position
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or 
serious injury.
lMake sure that the seatback is securely locked in position by lightly rock-
ing it back and forth.
l Check that the seat belts and buckles are not twisted or caught under the 
seat.
l Arrange the seat belts in the proper positions for ready use.
NOTICE
nStowing the seat belts
The seat belts and the buckles must be stowed before you fold down the 
rear seat backs.
n When returning the seatback  to the upright position
Do not pull the pocket that stores the seat belt comfort guide.

n Adjusting the rear seat head restraints
Always raise the head restraint one level from the stowed position when 
using.
CAUTION
nHead restraint precautions
Observe the following precautions regarding the head restraints. Failure to 
do so may result in death or serious injury.
lUse the head restraints designed for each respective seat.
l Adjust the head restraints to the correct position at all times.
l Do not drive with the head restraints removed.
Make sure that the head restraints are 
adjusted so that the center of the head 
restraint is closest to the top of your ears.

Seat belts
Make sure that all occupants are wearing their seat belts before driv-
ing the vehicle.
n Correct use of the seat belts
lExten
d the shoulder belt so 
that it comes fully over the 
shoulder, but does not 
come into contact with the 
neck or slide off the shoul -
der.
l Position
 the lap belt as low 
as possible over the hips.
l Ad
just the position of the 
seatback. Sit up straight 
and well back in the seat.
l D
o not twist the seat belt.
n Faste
ning and releasing the seat belt

Push the tab into the buckle 
until a clicking sound is heard.

Before driving
Rear center seat belt
The rear center seat belt is a 3-poin t type restraint with 2 buckles. Both 
seat belt buckles must be correctly located and securely latched for 
proper operation.
Make sure that the buckle  is 
securely latched for ready use of 
the
  center seat belt.
Matches the tab with the 
hooked end
Matches the tab with the con -
cave end
Releasing the belt
Press the release button.
nAdjusting the height of the fr ont seat belt (5-door models 
only) 
Down
Pull the lock release knob and 
slide the height adjuster down.
Up
Move the height adjuster up as 
needed until you hear a click.

The belt can be completely rel eased wh

when folding down the rear seat.
To release the hooked end tab,

ert the vehicle’s key into the 
hole on the buckle.
Stow the seat belt tabs in the

Push the tab and then pull the

abs out from the cover.
Seat belt comfort guide (rear center seat)
If the shoulder belt sits close to  a person’s neck, use the seat belt 
comfort guide.
Split rear seats
Pull the comfort guide.

Non-split rear seat
Pull the comfort guide.
Slide the belt past the slot of the 
g
uide.
The elastic cord must be behind 
the seat belt.
Buckle, position and release the
