When trouble arises
Electric power steering system warning light
(warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steer-
ing) system.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.
Slip indicator light (if equipped)
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The VSC system;
• The TRC system; or
• Hill-start assist control.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.
(Yellow)
Brake system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The regenerative brake system; or
• The electronically controlled brake system.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.

Cruise control indicator light (if equipped)
Indicates a malfunction in the cruise control system.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.

Indicates a malfunction in the smart entry & start system.

Low traction battery warning light
Indicates that the hybrid battery (traction battery) is low.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
Open door warning light (warning buzzer)*2
Indicates that one or more of the doors is not fully closed.
Check that all the side doors and back door are
closed.
Low fuel level warning light
Indicates that remaining fuel is about 5.2 L (1.4 gal.,
1.1 lmp. gal.) or less.
Refuel the vehicle.

Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light

Warns the driver and front passenger to fasten their seat
belts.

Tire pressure warning light (if equipped)
When the light comes on: Low tire inflation pressure such
as
• Natural causes (P. 374)
• Flat tire (P. 379, 394)
Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified
level.
The light will turn off after a few minutes. In case the
light does not turn off even if the tire inflation pres-
sure is adjusted, have the system checked by any
authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional.

*1: Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of approximately
5 km/h (3 mph) or more.
*2: Open door warning buzzer:
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle reaches a speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) or
more with any door open.
*3: Driver’s and passenger’s seat belt buzzer:
The driver’s and passenger’s seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver
and passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds
for 30 seconds after the vehicle reaches a speed of at least 20 km/h (12
mph). Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a
different tone for 90 more seconds.
Passenger detection sensor and passenger seat belt reminder
If luggage is placed on a passenger seat, the passenger detection sensor
may cause the warning light to flash even if a passenger is not sitting in the
seat.
If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger,
and the warning light may not operate properly.
Hybrid system overheat warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates that the hybrid system has overheated. This light
may come on when driving under severe operating condi-
tions. (For example, when driving up a long steep hill.)
Stop and check. (P. 420)
P position request warning light
An attempt was made to start the hybrid system.
Shift the shift lever to P.
P position request warning light (warning buzzer)
• Indicates that the driver’s door was opened with the shift
lever in N, D or B.
Shift the shift lever to P.
• Indicates that the hybrid battery (traction battery) power
has dropped because a long period of time has elapsed
after shifting the shift lever to N.
Shift the shift lever to P and restart the hybrid system
when starting the vehicle.

If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
For some models, the malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank
becomes completely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle imme-
diately. The malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized Toy-
ota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional as
soon as possible.
Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard because of noisy place or an
audio sound.
Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes insufficient or the voltage tempo-
rarily drops, the electric power steering system warning light may come on
and the warning buzzer may sounds.
When the tire pressure warning light comes on (vehicles with a tire pres-
sure warning system)
Inspect the appearance of the tire to check that the tire is not punctured.
If the tire is punctured: P. 379, 394
If the tire is not punctured:
Carry out the following procedure after the tire temperature has lowered suffi-
ciently.
Check the tire inflation pressure and adjust to the appropriate level.
If the warning light does not go out even after several minutes, check that
the tire inflation pressure is at the specified level and carry out initialization.
The warning light may come on again if the above operations are conducted
without first allowing the tire temperature to lower sufficiently.
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes
(vehicles with a tire pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes such as
natural air leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature.
In this case, adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warning light
(after a few minutes).

When a tire is replaced with a spare tire (vehicles with a tire pressure
warning system)
The spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure warning valve and trans-
mitter. If a tire goes flat, the tire pressure warning light will not turn off even
though the flat tire has been replaced with the spare tire. Replace the spare
tire with the repaired tire and adjust the tire inflation pressure. The tire pres-
sure warning light will go off after a few minutes.
If the tire pressure warning system is not functioning (vehicles with a
tire pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning system will be disabled in the following conditions:
(When the condition becomes normal, the system will work properly.)
If tires not equipped with tire pressure warning valves and transmitters are
used
If the ID code on the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters is not
registered in the tire pressure warning computer
If the tire inflation pressure is 500 kPa (5.1 kgf/cm
2 or bar, 73 psi) or higher
The tire pressure warning system may be disabled in the following conditions:
(When the condition becomes normal, the system will work properly.)
If electronic devices or facilities using similar radio wave frequencies are
nearby
If a radio set at a similar frequency is in use in the vehicle
If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed
If there is a lot of snow or ice on the vehicle, particularly around the wheels
or wheel housings
If non-genuine Toyota wheels are used (Even if you use Toyota wheels, the
tire pressure warning system may not work properly with some types of
tires.)
If tire chains are used
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for 1
minute (vehicles with a tire pressure warning system)
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for 1 min-
ute when the power switch is turned on, have it checked by any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

WARNING
When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, hold
firmly and operate using more force than usual.
If the tire pressure warning light comes on (vehicles with a tire pres-
sure warning system)
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could cause a
loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire infla-
tion pressure immediately.
If the tire pressure warning light comes on even after tire inflation pressure
adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat tire. Check the tires. If a tire
is flat, change it with the spare tire and have the flat tire repaired by the
nearest authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires deteriorate, you
could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur (vehicles with a tire
pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.
NOTICE
To ensure the tire pressure warning system operates properly (vehi-
cles with a tire pressure warning system)
Do not install tires with different specifications or makers, as the tire pres-
sure warning system may not operate properly.

If you have a flat tire (vehicles with a spare
tire)
Stop the vehicle on a hard, flat surface.
Set the parking brake.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Stop the hybrid system.
Turn on the emergency flashers. (P. 360)
Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can be
replaced with the spare tire.

WARNING
If you have a flat tire
Do not continue driving with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance with a flat tire can damage the tire and the
wheel beyond repair, which could result in an accident.
