Seeing the TPMS light? Here’s what to do.
If you see the TPMS light on your instrument panel or the message “Tire pressure too low” in the multifunction display, check all tires and inflate the low tire(s) to the correct pressure as soon as possible. The correct tire pressure is displayed on the sticker on the driver’s door jamb. Inflate your tire(s) to those specifications, not to the number on your tires.After inflating the low tire(s) to the correct pressure, turn the ignition on and press the
SET

button inside the glove compartment for five seconds, until you hear the chime.

• Never carry a mobile phone that is switched on in the breast pocket directly over the pacemaker.• If you suspect there may be interference with a pacemaker or other medical device, switch the mobile phone off immediately.• The center armrest can interfere with the driver’s elbow movement and thus cause accidents and severe injuries.• Always keep the armrest closed while driving.CRUISE CONTROL• Using the cruise control when it is not possible to drive safely at a constantspeed can be dangerous and can lead to an accident and serious personalinjuries.• Never use cruise control when driving in heavy or varying traffic or when youcannot keep a safe distance between you and the vehicles ahead of you.Never use cruise control on steep, winding, or slippery roads (such as gravelroads, wet roads, or snowy or icy roads) or on roads with standing water.• Never use cruise control when driving off-road or on unpaved roads.• Always adjust your speed and the distance you keep between you and thevehicles ahead of you to the road, traffic, weather, and visibility conditions.• To help prevent unintended operation of cruise control, switch the system offwhen it is not being used. It is dangerous to use the Resume feature when the previously set speed is too high for the existing road, traffic, or weather conditions.• When going downhill, the cruise control may not be able to maintain aconstant speed. The vehicle will speed up because of its own weight.Downshift and/or use the foot brake to slow the vehicle.• Failure to heed warning lights and instrument cluster text messages can causethe vehicle to break down in traffic and result in a collision and seriouspersonal injury.• Never ignore warning lights or text WARNINGS.• Always stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.FUELING • Improper refueling or handling of fuel is dangerous and can cause fire, explosion, and severe burns.• Always make sure that the fuel filler cap is screwed on all the way. This helps
keep fuel from spilling out or evaporating.• Fuel is highly flammable and explosive; it can cause severe burns and other severe injuries.• Failure to shut the engine off while refueling and/or to insert the pump nozzle all the way into the fuel filler neck can cause fuel to overflow and to spray out. Fuel spray and overflowing fuel are dangerous because they can cause fire and serious personal injury.• During refueling, the engine and the ignition must be switched off for safety reasons.• Never use a mobile telephone, CB radio, or other radio equipment while refueling. The electromagnetic radiation can cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.• Never get back into your vehicle while refueling. If in exceptional circumstances you must get back in your vehicle while refueling, make certain that you close the door and touch metal to discharge static electricity before touching the filler nozzle again. This helps avoid the build-up of static electricity, which can cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors released during refueling.• Never smoke or have an open flame (or sparks, cigarettes, or other smoldering objects) anywhere in or near your vehicle when refueling or filling a portable fuel container.• Follow all safety instructions and procedures that apply at the service station where you refuel.• Never spill fuel in the vehicle or the luggage compartment.• Even if empty, portable fuel containers can leak and cause a fire and serious personal injuries, especially in a crash.• For your safety, we strongly recommend that you do not travel with a portable fuel container in your vehicle.• If, under exceptional circumstances, you must transport a portable fuel container, please observe the following:– Never fill a portable fuel container while it is anywhere in or on thevehicle (for example, in the luggage compartment or on top of theluggage compartment lid). Static electricity can build up while fillingand can ignite fuel vapors, causing a fire.– Always place a portable fuel container on the ground before filling.Never spill fuel inside the vehicle or luggage compartment. Obey all applicable legal requirements.• In areas without mobile network coverage or with poor mobile network coverage, as well as in some tunnels, garages and subways, phone conversations may be interrupted, and it may be impossible to make phone calls – even emergency calls.• In some countries and/or certain mobile networks, emergency calls may only be supported when the mobile phone is connected to a mobile phone package which has a SIM card which is “blocked” and/or has sufficient calling credit on it, and adequate network coverage.• A mobile phone on the seat, instrument panel or in other places can be thrown around the inside of the vehicle during a sudden braking maneuver, crash or other accident and cause injury to vehicle occupants.• Never place or mount a mobile phone on doors, the windshield, on or near the area on the steering wheel marked “AIRBAG”, the instrument panel, the seat backrests or the areas between these points and the driver/passengers. Mobile phones can lead to serious injuries in cases of accidents, especially when the airbags are inflated.• Always switch off your mobile phone at gas stations or wherever there is a fire or explosion hazard. The electromagnetic radiation can cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.• The mobile phone will automatically connect to the mobile network when the Bluetooth
® connection to the mobile phone package is disconnected.
• Using a radio device in the vehicle without a connection to an external antenna might exceed electromagnetic radiation thresholds. This also applies if the outside antenna is not installed properly.• Always keep the cell phone antenna at least 8 inches (20 cm) away from pacemakers. Using theinstrument cluster or accessing Infotainment System menus while driving cantake your attention off the road and cause accidents.• To help reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, never change settings in the instrument cluster display or use Infotainment System functions unless thevehicle is standing still.• When powered by the electric motor, the vehicle makes much less noise, both when idling and driving, than when it is running on the internal combustion engine. It is much harder or even impossible for the drivers of other vehicles and above all for cyclists, pedestrians, and children to hear the vehicle when it is running on electrical power.
• Pedestrians and others can be struck and seriously injured because theycannot hear the vehicle and tell that it is getting close to them, for instancewhen you are parking, backing up, or driving in a low speed zone wherethere is likely to be pedestrian traffic.• Always watch out for pedestrians, especially small children, cyclists, andothers who may not hear the vehicle or realize that it is about to move or willcross their path of travel.• Always be especially careful in residential areas, school zones, and otherplaces where the speed of motor vehicles is restricted and pedestrians may beat greater risk.• Make sure the ignition and the hybrid drive system have both been turned off before leaving the vehicle.• Never leave the vehicle when READY is displayed in the instrument cluster orwhen hybrid drive system indicator lights are still lit. The vehicle can move ifthe accelerator is depressed even though the combustion engine has beenstopped. This can cause accidents and severe or fatal injuries.• Make sure the transmission is in Park (P) before you get out of the vehicle.• Never support the vehicle with cinder blocks, bricks, or other objects toinspect it. The vehicle could slip or move suddenly and cause an accident withserious personal injury.• Never let the hybrid battery get wet. Liquids and other fluids can cause shortcircuits, electrical shock, burns, and explosions.• Never carry large amounts of liquids or other fluids in the luggagecompartment.• Always make sure that any containers with liquids and other fluids areproperly secured and tightly closed to prevent leakage during normal drivingas well as hard cornering, braking, and other vehicle maneuvers. Leakingliquids can get into the cover of the high-voltage battery and the high-voltage cable connections. This can damage the electrical system and the high-voltage battery.• A parked vehicle that is not properly parked can roll away and cause accidents or severe injuries. When leaving the vehicle, always move theselector lever into Park (P) and engage the parking brake.• Failure to heed warning lights and instrument cluster text messages can cause the vehicle to break down in traffic and result in a collision and seriouspersonal injury. • Never ignore warning lights or text WARNINGS.• Always stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
– Always keep the filler nozzle completely inside the portable containerbefore and during filling.– If filling a portable container made of metal, the filler nozzle mustalways be in contact with the container. This will help prevent staticelectricity from discharging and causing a fire.– Always observe local and state or provincial laws about the use, storage,and transportation of portable fuel containers.– Make certain that the portable fuel container meets industry standards,such as ANSI/ASTM F852-86.• Driving with a fuel tank that is almost empty can lead to stalling in traffic, acollision, and serious personal injuries.• When the fuel tank is almost empty, fuel supply to the engine can beinterrupted, especially when driving over bumps, across slopes, and up anddown hills.• Steering and braking assistance as well as ESC and related systems will notwork if the engine “sputters” or stalls due to lack of fuel.• Always refuel when the tank is 1/4 full to reduce the risk of running out of fueland stalling in traffic.• Spilled fuel can cause fires, explosions, burns, and other severe injuries.• Always stop refueling once the pump nozzle switches off so that the tank doesnot overflow.• Improper refueling or handling of fuel can cause fire, explosion, and severeburns.• Fuel is highly explosive and flammable and can cause severe burns and otherinjuries.• Heed applicable safety warnings and obey local fuel handling regulations.• Always make sure the fuel cap is screwed on all the way. Always remember: even if the “snowflake symbol” is not displayed, therecould still be black ice on the road.• Never rely exclusively on the outside temperature display. KEYLESS ENTRY• Improper use of power locks can result in serious personal injury.• The power locking button locks all doors. Locking the doors from the insidecan help prevent unintended door opening during a collision and can alsoprevent unwanted entry from the outside. Locked doors can, however, delayassistance to vehicle occupants and rescue from the outside in an accident orother emergency.• Never leave children or anyone who cannot help themselves behind in thevehicle. All doors can be locked from the inside with the power lock button.This could leave people trapped in the vehicle in an emergency. Depending on
the time of year, people trapped in the vehicle can be exposed to veryhigh or very low temperatures.• A closed vehicle can become very hot or very cold, depending on the season.Particularly in the summer, heat buildup in the passenger and luggagecompartment of a parked vehicle can result in temperatures in the vehicle thatare much higher than the outside temperatures. Temperatures can quicklyreach levels that can cause unconsciousness and death, particularly to smallchildren.• Never allow passengers to remain in a locked vehicle. In an emergency anyperson still inside the vehicle might not be able to get out.• A door kept open with the door stop may close in strong winds or on inclinesand cause injuries.• Always hold doors by the door handle while opening and closing.• A door that is not closed properly may open suddenly when the vehicle ismoving and cause severe injuries.• Stop immediately and close the door.• Make sure that the door is safely and completely latched when closed. The recommended tire pressure values are listed on a sticker insidethe driver door.• Always maintain correct cold tire inflation pressure so that TPMS can do itsjob.• Always inflate tires to the recommended and correct tire pressure beforedriving off.• Driving with underinflated tires causes them to flex (bend) more, letting them get too hot, resulting in tread separation, sudden tire failure, and loss ofcontrol.• Excessive speed and/overloading can cause heat buildup, sudden tire failureand loss of control.• If the tire pressure is too low or too high, the tires will wear prematurely andthe vehicle will not handle well.
• If the tire is not “flat” and you do not have to change a wheel immediately,drive carefully and at reduced speed to the nearest service station to checkthe tire pressure and add air as required.• When replacing tires or wheel rims on vehicles equipped with TPMS alwaysread and heed the information and all WARNINGS.• When the warning symbol appears in the instrument cluster, stop the vehicleas soon as it is safe to do so and inspect all tires.• The TPMS can only work correctly when all tires on the vehicle are filled to the correct cold tire inflation pressure. Always maintain the correct cold tireinflation pressure so that TPMS can do its job.• Using incorrect tire pressure values can cause accidents or other damage.Check the pressure in all 4 tires when the tires are still cold. Never reduce airpressure in warm tires to match cold tire inflation pressure.• Always inflate the tires to the correct specified cold tire pressure values for the tires installed on the vehicle; see the tire inflation pressure label on the driver door jamb.• The Tire Pressure Monitoring System must be recalibrated using the SETbutton whenever you remove and remount or change any wheel or tire on thevehicle, even if the reinstalled or replacement wheels and tires are identical tothose that were removed and even if the tire pressure does not change. • Improper use of the SET button can cause the TPMS to give false warnings or to give no warning despite dangerously low tire pressure. Make certain thetire inflation pressure of all tires is correct before using the SET button.• Incorrect tire pressure can cause sudden tire failure, loss of vehicle controland serious personal injury.• Always check and correct air pressure in all 4 tires, particularly afterchanging, exchanging, or repairing tires.• After that, always make sure that all 4 tires are inflated to the correct tirepressure for the tires installed on the vehicle. Then push the SET button for theTire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) so that it can properly monitor thepressure in the tires.• Press and hold the SET button until the confirmation chime sounds. Hold theSET button for at least 2 seconds, but not more than 30 seconds.• See the tire pressure label, Tire inflation pressure and the Owner’s Literaturefor recommended cold tire inflation pressure and other important information.
