Follow applicable regulations regarding per-mitted speed and weight.
Drive slowly when towing a trailer up a longand steep incline.
The maximum trailer weights given only applyto altitudes up to 1000 meters (3280 feet)above sea level. At higher altitudes, enginepower (and thus the vehicle's climbing ability)is decreased due to the reduced air density,and the maximum trailer weight must there-fore be reduced. The weight of the vehicleand trailer must be decreased by 10% foreach additional 1000 m (3280 feet) or partthereof.
Avoid driving with a trailer on inclines of morethan 12%.
Avoid overloading and other incorrect use.
The trailer's brakes must be balanced withthe vehicle's brakes to help ensure safestops (follow applicable local regulations).
CAUTION
Bumper-attached trailer hitches must notbe used on Volvos, nor should safetychains be attached to the bumper.
Trailer hitches attaching to the vehiclerear axle must not be used.
Never connect a trailer's hydraulic brakesystem directly to the vehicle brake sys-tem, nor a trailer's lighting system directlyto the vehicle lighting system. Consultyour nearest authorized Volvo retailer forcorrect installation.
When towing a trailer, the trailer's safetychains or wire must be correctly fastenedto the attachment points provided in thetrailer hitch on the vehicle. The safetychain or wire must never be fastened toor wound around the towing ball.
NOTE
The optional detachable trailer hitch may notbe available in all markets or on all models.Consult your Volvo retailer.
NOTE
Extreme weather conditions, towing a trailer,high altitude and lower fuel grade than rec-ommended are factors that can significantlyincrease the vehicle's fuel consumption.
Trailer weights
WARNING
Please adhere to the recommendations provi-ded for trailer weight. If the recommendationsare not followed, the vehicle and trailer maybe difficult to control during evasive maneu-vers and braking.
NOTE
The specified maximum trailer weights arethose permitted by Volvo. National vehicleregulations may set additional restrictions ontrailer weight and speed. The trailer hitchesmay be certified for higher towing weightsthan the vehicle is permitted to tow.
Self-leveling suspension *
The vehicle's self-leveling system attempts tokeep the vehicle at a constant level, regardless ofload (up to the maximum permitted weight).When the vehicle is stationary, the rear end of thevehicle will be slightly lowered, which is normal.
Driving in hilly terrain or hot weather
In certain conditions, there is a risk of overheat-ing when driving with a trailer. If overheating ofthe engine and drive system is detected, a warn-ing symbol will illuminate in the instrument paneland a message will appear.

Disabling the automatic check
The automatic light check can be disabled in thecenter display.
1.Tap Settings in the Top view.
2.Tap My CarLights and Lighting.
3.Deselect Automatic Trailer Lamp Check.
Manual check
If the automatic check has been disabled, thecheck can be started manually.
1.Tap Settings in the Top view.
2.Tap My CarLights and Lighting.
3.Select Manual Trailer Lamp Check.
>The light check will begin. Get out of thevehicle to perform the check.

Towing using a towline
This section refers to one vehicle being towedbehind another using a towline.
Never attempt to tow a Twin Engine vehiclebehind another vehicle as this could damage theelectric motor. The vehicle must instead be liftedonto a tow truck and transported with all fourwheels on the bed or lifting platform of the truck(no wheels may touch the road).
Towing another vehicle
Towing another vehicle requires a lot of power -use the Constant AWD drive mode. This helpscharge the hybrid battery and improve the vehi-cle's driving and roadholding characteristics.
Before towing another vehicle, check applicablespeed limit regulations.
Jump starting
Never attempt to tow the vehicle to start theengine, as this could damage the electric motor.Use an auxiliary battery if the start battery'scharge level is so low that the engine cannot bestarted.
CAUTION
Attempts to tow-start the vehicle could causedamage to the electrical drive motor andthree-way catalytic converter.

Recovery
This section refers to transporting the vehiclewith a tow truck or similar vehicle.
Call a professional towing service for assistance.
In certain conditions, the towing eyelet can beused to pull the vehicle onto a flatbed tow truck.
CAUTION
Note that vehicles with Twin Engine mustalways be towed raised with all wheels on thetow truck.
The vehicle's location and ground clearancedetermine if it can be lifted onto a tow truck. Ifthe incline of the tow truck is too steep or if theground clearance under the vehicle is insufficient,attempting to pull it up may result in damage. Inthis case, the vehicle should only be lifted withthe tow truck's lifting equipment.
WARNING
No person or object should be behind the towtruck when the vehicle is lifted onto the bedof the truck.

HomeLink®15 is a programmable remote control,integrated in the vehicle electrical system, thatcan control up to three different devices (e.g.garage door opener, alarm system, outdoor andindoor lighting) and thereby replace the remotecontrols for these.

Programming HomeLink®*16
Follow these instructions to program
HomeLink®, reset all programming, or programindividual buttons.
NOTE
In some vehicles, the ignition must be on or in
the "accessory position" before HomeLink®
can be programmed or used. It can be a goodidea to put new batteries in the remote con-
trol being replaced by HomeLink® for fasterprogramming and better radio signal trans-
mission. The HomeLink® buttons should bereset before programming.
WARNING
While HomeLink® is being programmed, thegarage door or gate being programmed maybe activated. Make sure that no one is nearthe door or gate during programming. Whenprogramming a garage door opener, it isadvised to park outside of the garage.
1.Point the remote control at the HomeLink®
button to be programmed and hold it about2-8 cm (1-3 inches) from the button. Do not
obstruct the HomeLink® indicator light.
Note: Some remote controls are more effec-
tive at programming HomeLink® from a dis-tance of about 15-20 cm (6-12 inches).Keep this in mind if you experience any pro-gramming difficulties.
2.Press and hold both the remote control but-
ton and the HomeLink® button to be pro-grammed.
3. Do not release the buttons until the indicatorlight has stopped flashing slowly (about oncea second) and either flashes quickly (about10 times a second) or glows steadily.
>If the indicator light glows steadily:Indication that programming is complete.Press the programmed button twice toactivate.
If the indicator light flashes quickly:The device being programmed with
HomeLink® may have a security functionthat requires an extra step. Try pressingthe programmed button twice to seewhether the programming works. Other-wise, continue with the following steps.
4. Locate the "training" button17 on thereceiver for the e.g. garage door opener. It isusually located near the antenna bracket onthe receiver.
5.Press and release the "training" button once.Programming must be completed within 30seconds after pressing the button.
6.Press and release the HomeLink® button tobe programmed. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence a second time. For somereceivers, the sequence may need to berepeated a third time.
> Programming is now completed and thegarage door, gate, etc. should now beactivated when the programmed button ispressed.

Programming individual buttons
To program an individual HomeLink® button:
1. Press and hold the desired button for about20 seconds.
2.When the indicator light on HomeLink®
starts flashing slowly, it is possible to pro-gram as usual.
Note: If the button you are reprogrammingdoes not program with a new device, it willreturn to the previously saved programming.
Resetting the HomeLink ®
buttons
It is only possible to reset all HomeLink® buttonsat once. It is not possible to reset individual but-tons. Individual buttons can only be reprogram-med.
–Press and hold the outer buttons (1 and 3)
on HomeLink® for about 10 seconds.
>When the indicator light goes from asteady glow to flashing, the buttons havebeen reset and are ready for reprogram-ming.

Once HomeLink® is programmed, it can beused instead of the separate remote controls.
Press and hold the programming button. Thegarage door, gate, alarm system, etc. will be acti-vated (this may take several seconds). If the but-ton is held down for more than 20 seconds,reprogramming will begin. The indicator light willglow steadily or flash when the button has beenpressed. The original remote controls may be
used concurrently with HomeLink® if desired.
NOTE
When the ignition is switched off, HomeLink®
will be active for at least 7 minutes.
NOTE
HomeLink® cannot be used if the vehicle islocked and the alarm is armed* from the out-side.
WARNING
If you use HomeLink® to open a garagedoor or gate, be sure no one is near thegate or door while it is in motion.
Do not use HomeLink® with any garagedoor opener that lacks safety stop andreverse features as required by US fed-eral safety standards (this includes anygarage door opener model manufacturedbefore April 1, 1982). A garage door thatcannot detect an object - signaling thedoor to stop and reverse - does not meetcurrent U.S. federal safety standards. Formore information, contact HomeLink at:www.homelink.com.

Tires
The function of the tires is to carry loads, providetraction on road surfaces, reduce vibrations andprotect the wheels from wear.
The tires significantly influence the vehicle's driv-ing characteristics. The type, dimensions, tirepressure and speed rating have a considerableimpact on how the vehicle performs.
Your vehicle is equipped with tires according tothe vehicle's tire information placard on the B-pil-lar (the structural member at the side of the vehi-cle, at the rear of the driver's door opening).
WARNING
A damaged tire could cause the driver to losecontrol of the vehicle.
CAUTION
Some Volvo models are equipped with anUltra High Performance tire and wheel com-bination designed to provide maximum drypavement performance with consideration forhydroplaning resistance. They may be moresusceptible to road hazard damage and,depending on driving conditions, may achievea tread life of less than 30,000 km (20,000miles). Even if this vehicle is equipped withVolvo's advanced AWD or stability system,these tires are not designed for winter driving,and should be replaced with winter tires whenweather conditions dictate.
The tires have good road holding characteristicsand offer good handling on dry and wet surfaces.It should be noted however that the tires havebeen developed to give these features on snow/ice-free surfaces.
Most models are equipped with "all-season" tires,which provide a somewhat higher degree of road-holding on slippery road surfaces than tires with-out the "all-season" rating. However, for optimalroadholding on icy or snow-covered roads, Volvorecommends snow tires on all four wheels.
When replacing tires, be sure that the new tiresare the same size designation, type (radial) andpreferably from the same manufacturer, on all
four wheels. Otherwise there is a risk of alteringthe vehicle's roadholding and handling characte-ristics.
Recommended tires
On delivery, the car is equipped with Volvo origi-
nal tires that have the VOL1 marking on the sideof the tires. These tires have been designed spe-cifically for your vehicle. It is therefore importantwhen replacing tires that the new tires have thissame marking to help maintain the vehicle's driv-ing characteristics, comfort and fuel consumption.
New tires
Tires are perishable goods. After a few years,they will begin to harden and their friction proper-ties will gradually deteriorate. Always replace tireswith the freshest tires possible. This is particularlyimportant for snow tires. A series of numbers is

Tire direction of rotation
Tires with tread designed to roll in only onedirection are marked with an arrow on the side-wall.
The arrow shows the tire's direction of rotation.
The tire should maintain the same directionof rotation throughout its service life.
Tires should only be moved between thefront and back, never from right to left or viceversa.
Incorrectly mounted tires impair the vehicle'sbraking properties and ability to force asiderain, snow and slush.
The tires with the most tread should alwaysbe mounted on the rear wheels to helpreduce the risk of skidding.
NOTE
Use tires of the same type, dimensions andmake (manufacturer) on each axle.

Tread wear indicator
The tread wear indicator shows the status of thetire's tread.
The tread wear indicator is a narrow elevatedstrip running across the tire's longitudinal treadgrooves. The letters TWI (Tread Wear Indicator)are visible on the side of the tire. When approxi-mately 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) is left on the tread,the tread will be at the same height as the treadwear indicator. Replace the tire as soon as possi-ble. Tires with low tread offer very poor traction inrain or snow.

Tire terminology
The following is a glossary of tire-related terms.
The tire suppliers may have additional markings,notes or warnings such as standard load, radialtubeless, etc.
Tire information placard: A placard show-ing the OE (Original Equipment) tire sizes,recommended inflation pressure, and themaximum weight the vehicle can carry.
Tire Identification Number (TIN): A numberon the sidewall of each tire providing infor-mation about the tire brand and manufactur-ing plant, tire size and date of manufacture.
Inflation pressure: A measure of theamount of air in a tire.
Standard load: A class of P-metric or Metrictires designed to carry a maximum load at 35psi [37 psi (2.5 bar) for Metric tires]. Increas-ing the inflation pressure beyond this pres-sure will not increase the tires load carryingcapability.
Extra load: A class of P-metric or Metrictires designed to carry a heavier maximumload at 41 psi [43 psi (2.9 bar) for Metrictires]. Increasing the inflation pressurebeyond this pressure will not increase thetire's load carrying capability.
kPa: Kilopascal, a metric unit of air pressure.
PSI: Pounds per square inch, a standard unitof air pressure.
B-pillar: The structural member at the sideof the vehicle behind the front door.
Bead area of the tire: Area of the tire nextto the rim.
Sidewall of the tire: Area between the beadarea and the tread.
Tread area of the tire: Area of the perime-ter of the tire that contacts the road whenmounted on the vehicle.
Rim: The metal support (wheel) for a tire or atire and tube assembly upon which the tirebeads are seated.
Maximum load rating: a figure indicatingthe maximum load in pounds and kilogramsthat can be carried by the tire. This rating isestablished by the tire manufacturer.
Maximum permissible inflation pressure:the greatest amount of air pressure thatshould ever be put in the tire. This limit is setby the tire manufacturer.
Recommended tire inflation pressure:inflation pressure, established by Volvo,which is based on the type of tires that aremounted on a vehicle at the factory. Thisinformation can be found on the tire inflationplacard(s) located on the driver's side B-pillarand in the tire inflation table in this chapter.
Cold tires: The tires are considered to becold when they have the same temperatureas the surrounding (ambient) air. This tem-

7.M+S or M/S = Mud and Snow, AT = All Ter-rain, AS = All Season
8.U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number(TIN): This begins with the letters "DOT" andindicates that the tire meets all federalstandards. The next two numbers are thefactory code where the tire was manufac-tured, the next two are the tire size code andthe last four numbers represent the weekand year the tire was made. For example,0717 means that the tire was manufacturedduring week 7 of 2017. The numbers inbetween are marketing codes used at themanufacturer's discretion. This informationhelps a tire manufacturer identify a tire forsafety recall purposes.
9.Tire Ply Composition and Material Used:Indicates the number of plies indicates or thenumber of layers of rubber-coated fabric inthe tire tread and sidewall. Tire manufactur-ers also must indicate the ply materials in thetire and the sidewall, which include steel,nylon, polyester, and others.
10.Maximum Load: Indicates the maximumload in pounds and kilograms that can becarried by the tire. Refer to the vehicle's tire
information placard located on the B-Pillarfor the correct tire pressure for your vehicle.
11.Treadwear, Traction, and Temperaturegrades.
12.Maximum permissible inflation pressure:the greatest amount of air pressure thatshould ever be put in the tire. This limit is setby the tire manufacturer.
Speed Symbol
A tire's Speed Symbol (SS) indicates the maxi-mum speed for which the tire has been certifiedand should be at least equivalent to the vehicle'stop speed.
Winter tires, with or without studs, are exceptionsand may use a lower SS. When winter tires areinstalled, the vehicle may not be driven fasterthan the tires' SS.
The vehicle's speed should always be determinedby the posted speed limit and traffic and roadconditions, not the tire's SS.
The following table indicates the maximum per-missible speed for each SS.
