Tunnel console The tunnel console is located between the front seats.

WARNING
Store loose objects, such as cell phone, cam- era, remote control for extra equipment, etc.,in the glove compartment or another compart-ment. Otherwise, these could injure people inthe vehicle in the event of hard braking or acollision.
NOTE
One of the sensors for the alarm * is located
under the cup holder in the center console. Avoid placing coins, keys and other metalobjects in the cup holder as this could triggerthe alarm.
CAUTION
Keep in mind that glossy surfaces can be easily scratched by e.g. metal objects. Do notplace keys, phones or similar items on sensi-tive surfaces.

Electrical outlets
There are two 12 V electrical outlets and one 120 V electrical outlet * in the tunnel console,
and one 12 V electrical outlet * in the trunk/cargo
compartment. If a problem occurs with an electrical socket, contact a workshop - an authorized Volvo work-shop is recommended.
12 V outlets
12 V outlet in the tunnel console, front seat.
The 12 V outlets can be used for devices intended for this such as MP3 players, coolersand cellular phones.
12 V outlet in the tunnel console, rear seat.
12 V outlet in trunk/cargo compartment *.

light on the outlet indicates its status:

Steady green light The socket is providing electrical current to a connected device. None.
Flashing orange light The socket's voltage converter is too hot (e.g. if the device draws too much cur- rent or if the temperature in the passenger compartment is very high). Unplug the device, let the voltage converter cool down and plug in the device again.
The connected device is drawing too much current (at the moment or con-stantly) or is not functioning properly. None. The device cannot be used in the socket.
Indicator light off The socket has not detected a device plugged into the socket. Make sure the device is correctly plugged into the socket.
The socket is not active. Make sure the vehicle's ignition is in at least mode I.
The socket has been active but has been deactivated. Start the engine and/or charge the start battery.

Using the electrical outlets
The 12 V outlet can be used for devices intended for this such as MP3 players, coolersand cellular phones. The high-voltage outlet * can be used for devices
intended for this, such as chargers, laptops, etc.
The ignition must be in at least mode I for the
outlets to supply current. The outlets will then be active as long as there is sufficient charge in thestart battery. If the engine is turned off and the vehicle is locked, the outlets will be deactivated. If theengine is turned off and the vehicle remainsunlocked, the sockets will remain active for up to7 minutes.
NOTE
Bear in mind that using the electrical outlets when the engine is off could cause the starterbattery to have too low of a charge level,which could limit other functionality. Accessories connected to the electrical out- lets can be activated even when the vehicleelectrical system is off or if preconditioning isused. For this reason, disconnect plugs whenthey are not in use to prevent the starter bat-tery from becoming discharged.
WARNING
• Do not use accessories with large or heavy plugs – they could damage the out-let or come loose while you are driving.
• Do not use accessories that could causedisruptions to e.g. the vehicle's radioreceiver or electrical system.
• Position the accessory so that there is norisk of it injuring the driver or passengersin the event of heavy braking or a colli-sion.
• Pay attention to connected accessoriesas they can generate heat that could burnpassengers or the interior.
Using 12 V outlets1. Remove the stopper (tunnel console) or fold
down the cover (trunk/cargo compartment)over the socket and plug in the device.
2. Unplug the device and put the stopper back in (tunnel console) or fold up the cover(trunk/cargo compartment) when the socketis not in use or left unattended.
CAUTION
The maximum power is 120 W (10 A) per outlet.
Using high-voltage outletsThe ignition must be in at least mode I for outlets
to supply current. The outlets will then be active as long as there is sufficient charge in the startbattery. 1. Slide down the cover over the outlet and plug in the device. >
The LED 2
light on the outlet will indicate
its status.
2. The outlet is supplying electrical current when the light is glowing steadily green.
3. Disconnect the device by pulling out the plug (do not pull on the cord). Pull up the cover when the outlet is not in use or is left unattended.
CAUTION
The maximum power is 150 W.
WARNING
Do not attempt to alter or repair the high-volt- age outlet on your own. Volvo recommendscontacting an authorized Volvo workshop.

WARNING
•Only use accessories that are not dam- aged or malfunctioning. The accessoriesmust be designed for 120 V and 60 Hz,with plugs intended for the outlet. Theaccessories must be CE marked, ULmarked or have an equivalent safetymarking.
• New let outlets, plugs or accessoriescome into contact with water or anotherfluid. Do not touch or use the outlet if itappears damaged or has been in contactwith water or another fluid.
• Do not connect power strips, adapters orextension cords to the outlet has thiscould cause the outlet's safety functionsto malfunction.
• The outlet is equipped with a pet guard.Make sure that no one picks at or dam-ages the outlet in such a way that theguard is disabled. Children should not beleft unsupervised in the vehicle when theoutlet is active.
Failure to follow the above could lead to severe or fatal electrical shocks.

Using the glove compartment
The glove compartment is located on the pas- senger side. The glove compartment can beused to store the Owner's Manual, maps, etc.There is also room for a pen and a card holder.
Locking and unlocking the glove box *
The glove compartment can be locked when the vehicle is left at a workshop, hotel, etc. The glovecompartment can then only be locked/unlockedwith the glove compartment key.

To lock the glove compartment:
Insert the key into the lock on the glove com- partment.
Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise.
Remove the key from the lock.
–To unlock, perform the above steps in reverse.
Using the glove box as a cooled area *
The glove compartment can be used to cool e.g. drinks or food. Cooling is possible when the cli-mate system is active (i.e. when the ignition is in mode II or when the engine is running).

Sun visors In the ceiling in front of the driver and front pas- senger, there are sun visors that can be loweredand angled to the side as necessary.

Cargo compartment The vehicle has a flexible cargo compartment that makes it possible to carry and secure largeobjects.
The cargo capacity of the vehicle can be consid- erably increased by folding down the rear seatbackrests. Use the load anchoring eyelets or gro-cery bag holders to help secure objects in place, and the retractable cargo compartment cover * to
help conceal objects in the cargo compartment. The towing eyelet and tire sealing system, or the temporary spare tire *, are located under the
cargo compartment floor.

Loading recommendations
There are a number of things to consider when carrying loads in or on the vehicle.
Load-carrying capacity is determined by the vehi- cle's curb weight. The total weight of all passen-gers and any installed accessories reduces thevehicle's load-carrying capacity by the corres-ponding amount.
WARNING
The vehicle's driving characteristics change depending on the weight and position of theload.
Loading in the trunk and cargo compartment
• Position objects so they are pressing against the rear seat backrests.
• Distribute the load evenly.
• Heavy objects should be positioned as lowas possible. Avoid placing heavy objects onfolded-down seat backrests.
• Cover sharp corners with a soft cloth or simi-lar to help prevent damage to the upholstery.
• Use the load anchoring eyelets and tension-ing straps or similar to secure all objects.
WARNING
In a head-on collision at a speed of 50 km/h (30 mph), an unsecured object weighing 20kg (44 pounds) can reach a projectile weightequivalent to 1000 kg (2200 pounds).
WARNING
If objects are loaded higher than the upper edge of the side windows, leave a 10 cm (4in.) space between the objects and the win-dow. Objects placed closer to this couldimpede the function of the inflatable curtainconcealed inside the headlining.
WARNING
Always secure the load. Otherwise, it may shift during heavy braking and injure people in thevehicle. Cover sharp edges and sharp corners with something soft. Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake when loading/unloading long objects.Otherwise, it is possible for the load to reachthe gear lever or gear selector and move it toa drive position – which could cause the vehi-cle to begin rolling.

Extra cargo space
The rear seat backrests can be folded down to increase cargo compartment space and simplifyloading. If the rear seat backrests are foldeddown, make sure that no objects loaded into thevehicle prevent the WHIPS system for the frontseats from functioning correctly. The ski hatch in the rear seat can be folded down to carry skis or other long, thin objects.

Roof loads and load carriers Volvo-developed load carriers are recommended for carrying loads on the roof of the vehicle.
Volvo load carriers are specially designed to help prevent damage to your vehicle and help ensuremaximum safety while driving. Volvo load carriersare available from authorized Volvo retailers. Carefully follow the installation instructions provi- ded with the load carriers. •Check periodically to ensure that the load carriers and load are properly secured.Secure the load firmly using tie straps orsimilar.
• Distribute the load evenly throughout theload carriers. Place heavier cargo at the bot-tom of the load.
• The vehicle's wind resistance and fuel con-sumption increase with the size of the load.
• Drive smoothly. Avoid rapid acceleration, hardbraking and fast cornering.
WARNING
The vehicle's center of gravity and driving characteristics are altered by roof loads. Follow the vehicle's specifications regarding weights and maximum permitted load.

Grocery bag holders Grocery bag holders (hooks) help keep shop- ping bags in place and prevent them from fallingover and spilling their contents in the cargocompartment.
On the sides of the cargo compartment
There are two grocery bag holders in the side panel on each side of the cargo compartment.
CAUTION
The grocery bag holders are only intended to hold weights up to 5 kg (11 lbs).

Under the floor hatch *
There are two grocery bag holders and an elastic band3
in the hatch in the cargo compartment
floor. The strap can be attached in four different positions. Open the hatch to access the grocery bag hold- ers. Use the provided elastic strap to secureshopping bags in a suitable position. Bags withhandles of a suitable size can also be hung onthe hooks.

Load anchoring eyelets
The fold-out eyelets in the cargo compartment can be used to secure objects with straps, a net,etc.
WARNING
Hard, sharp and/or heavy objects in or pro- truding from the vehicle can cause injury inthe event of hard braking. Always secure large and heavy objects with a seat belt or cargo retaining straps.

Rear seat ski hatch
The hatch in the rear seat backrest can be opened to transport long, narrow objects suchas skis.
1. In the cargo compartment, grasp the ski hatch handle and pull it down.
2. Fold down the armrest in the rear seat. If the private locking * function is used, the hatch
must be closed.

Installing and removing the cargo
compartment cover

The cover can be rolled out to conceal objects in the cargo compartment.
Installing the cargo compartment cover
Press the end piece on one side of the cover into the retaining bracket in the side panel ofthe cargo compartment.
Then put the other end piece in the recess in the side panel on the opposite side.
Push the end piece down on both sides, one at a time.
> When a click is heard and the red marks on each end piece are no longer visible, the cover is in place. Check that it issecure.
4. Fold out the cover's front flap to eliminate the gap between the cover and the rear seat backrest.
CAUTION
The flap has two plastic parts that hold it into place. Do not hang shopping bags or similar items on these plastic parts. They are not designedfor this and could break.
If the cargo net * is used at the same time as the
cargo compartment cover, the net has to be put into place first.
Removing the cargo compartment
cover
In retracted position:
1. Press the button on one of the cover's ends and lift out that end.
