Operating
Operating the power windows
Manual up/down
Auto up/down.
For the power windows to function, the ignition must be in at least mode I. When the vehicle has
been running, the power windows can be oper- ated for several minutes after the remote key has been removed from the ignition slot, or until adoor has been opened.
NOTE
•
Movement of the windows will stop if they are obstructed in any way.
• To reduce buffeting wind noise if the rearwindows are opened, also open the frontwindows slightly.
Manual up/down
–Move one of the controls up/down slightly.
> The power windows move up/down as
long as the control is held in position.
Auto up/down
–Move one of the controls up/down as far as possible and release it.
> The window will open or close completely.
ResettingIf the battery has been disconnected, the auto open function must be reset so that it will workproperly.
1. Gently raise the front section of the button to close the window and hold it for one second.
2. Release the button briefly.
3. Raise the front section of the button again for one second.
Laminated glass *This glass is reinforced to help provide protection against break-ins andimproved sound insulation in the pas-senger compartment.
The windshield, laminated panoramic roof andother windows have laminated glass.

Power door mirrors
The control on the driver's door is used to adjust the position of the door mirrors.
Door mirror controls
Adjusting1. Press the L button for the left door mirror or
the R button for the right door mirror. The
light in the button comes on.
2. Adjust the position with the joystick in the center.
3. Press the L or R button again. The light
should no longer be on.
WARNING
Objects seen in the mirrors may appear fur- ther away than they actually are.
Retractable power door mirrors *The mirrors can be retracted for parking/driving in narrow spaces: 1.
Press down the L and R buttons at the same
time.
2. Release them after approximately one sec- ond. The mirrors automatically stop in the fully retracted position.
Fold out the mirrors by pressing down the L and
R buttons at the same time. The mirrors automat-
ically stop in the fully extended position.
Storing the position *The mirror positions are stored in the key mem-ory when the vehicle has been locked with theremote key. When the vehicle is unlocked withthe same remote control the mirrors and the driv-er's seat adopt the stored positions when thedriver's door is opened. The function can be activated/deactivated in MY CAR under

Tilting the door mirrors when parking *
The door mirrors can be tilted down to help give the driver a better view along the sides of thevehicle, for example when parallel parking. To activate this function, select reverse gear and press the
L or R mirror control button to tilt the
mirror down. The function can be activated/deactivated in MY CAR under
SettingsCar settings

• after 10 seconds when reverse is disen- gaged and the car remains stopped.

• when the engine is turned off.
• when the side mirrors are folded in.
NOTE
Only one mirror can be tilted down at a time.

Power door mirrors – automatic tilting/retraction

Automatically tilting the door mirrors
when parking
The door mirrors can tilt down automatically to help give the driver a better view along the sidesof the vehicle, for example when parallel parking.When the transmission is no longer in reverse,the mirrors will automatically return to their origi-nal position. Panoramic roof* – operation
The laminated panoramic roof is divided into two sections. The rear glass section is fixed in placeand cannot be moved but the front glass sectioncan be slid horizontally to the open or closedpositions or its rear edge can be raised and low-ered to allow ventilation.

WARNING
• During manual closing, if the laminated panoramic roof is obstructed, immediatelyopen it again.
• Never open or close the laminated panor-amic roof if it is obstructed in any way.
• Never allow a child to operate the lamina-ted panoramic roof.
• Never leave a child alone in a vehicle.
• When leaving the vehicle, ensure that the ignition is in mode
0 (see Ignition modes
(p. 80) for information about the various ignition modes) to disable the laminatedpanoramic roof. Never leave the remote key/PCC * in the vehicle.
• Never extend any object or body part though the open laminated panoramicroof, even if the vehicle's ignition is com-pletely switched off.
Automatic opening
1. Pull the switch as far back as possible (to
the position for automatic opening) and release it to open the laminated panoramicroof to a position that helps reduce windnoise while driving. Pull the switch again toslide open the laminated panoramic roofcompletely.
2. To fully open the laminated panoramic roof, pull the control as far back as possible a second time (to the auto open position) and
release it.
Quick open/close
The laminated panoramic roof and the sun shade can be opened/closed at the same time: • Open
- pull the control back (to the auto
open position) twice in quick succession and release it.
• Close
- push the control forward (to the auto
close position) twice in quick succession andrelease it.

Glove compartment
The glove compartment provides a lockable stor- age compartment for small items.
The owner's manual and maps can be kept here. There are also holders for pens and fuel cards.The glove compartment can be locked manuallywith the key blade, see Locking/unlocking –glove compartment (p. 165).

Vanity mirror
The vanity mirrors are located on the upper side of the sun visors.

12-volt socket in the cargo area

The 12-volt socket can be used e.g., to connect the tire sealing system's compressor (certainmodels) and other 12-volt accessories.

Remote key and key blade
Two remote keys are provided with your vehicle. They enable you to unlock the doors and tail-gate, and also function as ignition keys to startthe vehicle or operate electrical components.The remote keys contain detachable metal keyblades for manually locking or unlocking the driv-er's door and the glove compartment. The visibleends of these key blades are unique to make iteasier to identify "your" remote key. Up to sixremotes can be programmed for use on thesame vehicle.
WARNING
Never leave the remote key in the ignition slot if children are to remain in the vehicle.

Remote key – loss
If either of the remote keys (p. 150) is lost, the other should be taken with the vehicle to a Volvoretailer. As an anti-theft measure, the code of thelost remote key must be erased from the system.
NOTE
Additional or duplicate remote control keys can be obtained from any authorized Volvoretailer. You can also obtain additional or duplicate remote control keys from certain independentrepair facilities and locksmiths that are quali-fied to make remote control keys. Each keymust be programmed to work with your vehi-cle. Key memory
The memory in the remote key makes it possible to store certain personal settings.
The position of the side door mirrors, power driv- er's seat * and the selected instrument panel
theme 1
are stored in the remote keys when the
vehicle is locked . The next time the driver's door
is unlocked with the same remote key and the
door is opened within 2 minutes, the power driv-
er's seat and side door mirrors will automatically move to the position that they were in when thedoors were most recently locked with the sameremote key. If the seat/mirrors have not beenreadjusted since the vehicle was locked, they willalready be in the position stored in that particularremote key and will not move. For more informa-tion on this feature, see Front seats – power seat(p. 82). This feature can be activated or deactivated in the vehicle's menu by pressing MY CAR and
going into
SettingsCar settingsCar key

NOTE
If the vehicle is locked with the remote key or is left unlocked for more than 30 minutes, thekey memory function will be deactivated. To reactivate the key's memory:
• Press the unlock button on the remote key.

Locking/unlocking confirmation Settings can be made in the menu system for audible and visual confirmation when the vehiclehas been locked or unlocked. With these func-tions activated, the following will occur when thevehicle is locked/unlocked:
Locking confirmation
• The turn signals flash once, an audible signal sounds and the door mirrors will fold
* in.
Confirmation will only be given when all doors and the tailgate are properly closed and locked.
NOTE
If you do not receive confirmation when lock- ing the vehicle, check whether a door or thetailgate is ajar, or if this feature has beenturned off in the menu.
Unlocking confirmation
• The turn signals will flash twice and the door mirrors will fold
* out.
Making a setting
Different alternatives for locking/unlocking con- firmation can be selected in the menus by press- ing MY CAR on the center console control panel.
• To activate visual confirmation: go to
SettingsCar settingsLight settingsand select Door lock confirmation light
and/or Unlock confirmation light by
pressing OK/MENU .
• To activate audible confirmation: go to
SettingsCar settingsLock settingsand select Audible confirmation by press-
ing OK/MENU .

Lock indicator
Lock/alarm indicator light
A flashing indicator light at the base of the wind- shield verifies that the vehicle is locked.

Immobilizer (start inhibitor)
The immobilizer is a start inhibitor that helps pre- vent unauthorized persons from starting theengine. Each of the keys supplied with your vehicle con- tains a coded transponder. The code in the keyis transmitted to an antenna in the ignition slotwhere it is compared to the code stored in thestart inhibitor module. The vehicle will start onlywith a properly coded key. If you misplace a key,take the other keys to a trained and qualifiedVolvo service technician for reprogramming asan anti-theft measure. The following messages(which may appear in the instrument panel dis-play) are related to the immobilizer:

Unlock – Press the Unlock button on the
remote once to unlock the driver's door. After a short pause, press the Unlock button a second time within 10 seconds to unlock theother doors and the tailgate. This function can be changed so that all doors unlock at the same time by pressing My Car and
going to
SettingsCar settingsLock

Approach lighting – As you approach the
vehicle, press the button on the remote key to light the interior lighting, parking lights, license plate lighting and the lights in the door mirrors *.
These lights will switch off automatically after 30, 60 or 90 seconds. For a description of the menusystem, see My Car – introduction (p. 77).
Unlock tailgate – Press the button twice
within several seconds to disarm the alarm sys- tem (the alarm indicator light on the dashboardwill go out), and unlock only the tailgate. Pressing this button for several seconds also opens the tailgate on models equipped with theoptional power tailgate.
NOTE
As an added safety precaution, the parking lights will come on automatically for a shortperiod when the tailgate has been opened.
After closing, the tailgate will not automatically relock. Press Lock to relock it and rearm thealarm. For information on opening the tailgate from the passenger compartment, see Locking/unlocking– tailgate (p. 165)
Panic alarm – This button can be used to
attract attention during emergency situations. To activate the panic alarm, press and hold this button for at least 3 seconds or press it twicewithin 3 seconds. The turn signals and horn willbe activated. The panic alarm will stop automati-cally after 2 minutes and 45 seconds. To deactivate, wait approximately 5 seconds and press the button again. The Panic alarm button will not unlock the vehi- cle.

Remote key – range The remote key has a range of approximately 60 ft. (20 m) from the vehicle.
NOTE
Buildings or other obstacles may interfere with the function of the remote key. The vehi-cle can also be locked or unlocked with thekey blade, see Alarm-related functions(p. 171).
If the remote key is removed from the vehicle while the engine is running or if the ignition is in mode
I or II and all of the doors are closed, a
message will appear in the instrument panel dis- play and there will be an audible signal. When the remote key is returned to the vehicle, the message will be erased and the audible sig-nal will stop after one of the following has beendone:
• The remote key is inserted in the ignition slot
• The vehicle's speed exceeds 20 mph(30 km/h)
• The
OK button on the left steering wheel
lever is pressed
