3.Make sure the switch is in the 0 (Off) posi-tion and take out the electric cable and thehose.
4.Unscrew the orange cover on the compres-sor and unscrew the cap on the sealing com-pound bottle.
5. Screw the bottle onto the bottle holder as faras possible.
The bottle and the bottle holder are equip-ped with catches to help prevent the sealingcompound from leaking. Once the bottle isscrewed into place into the bottle holder, itcannot be unscrewed. The bottle can only beremoved by a workshop. Volvo recommendsan authorized Volvo workshop.
WARNING
Do not unscrew the bottle. It is equipped witha catch to prevent leakage.
6.Unscrew the tire's valve cap and screw thehose's valve connector as far as possibleonto the valve.
Be sure the air release valve on the com-pressor's hose is completely closed.
7. Connect the electrical cable to the nearest12 V outlet and start the vehicle.
NOTE
Make sure that none of the vehicle's other12 V sockets are used while the compressoris running.
WARNING
Never leave children unattended in the vehiclewhile the engine is running.
WARNING
Inhaling exhaust fumes could lead to seriousinjury. Never leave the engine running in anenclosed space or a space without sufficientventilation.
8.Start the compressor by moving the switch tothe I (On) position.
WARNING
Never stand next to a tire being inflated withthe compressor. If cracks, bulges, etc. form onthe tire, switch off the compressor immedi-ately. The vehicle should not be driven. Callroadside assistance to have the vehicle towedto a workshop for inspection/replacement ofthe tire. Volvo recommends an authorizedworkshop.
NOTE
When the compressor first starts, air pressuremay temporarily increase up to 6 bar (88 psi)but should decrease again after approxi-mately 30 seconds.
9. Inflate the tire for 7 minutes.
CAUTION
To help avoid overheating, the compressorshould never be used for more than10 minutes at a time.

10. Switch off the compressor and check theinflation pressure using the air pressuregauge. The inflation pressure should bebetween 1.8 bar (22 psi) and 3.5 bar(51 psi). If the inflation pressure is too high,use the air release valve to release air.
WARNING
If pressure falls below 1.8 bar (22 psi), thehole in the tire may be too large. The vehicleshould not be driven. Call roadside assistanceto have the vehicle towed to a workshop forinspection/replacement of the tire. Volvo rec-ommends an authorized workshop.
11.Switch off the compressor and remove theelectrical cable.
12. Unscrew the hose from the tire's valve andscrew the valve cap back on.
NOTE
After inflating a tire, always replace thevalve cap to help prevent valve damagecaused by gravel, dirt, etc.
Use plastic valve caps only. Metal capscould corrode and become difficult toremove.
13. Put the protective hose cover onto the hoseto help prevent leakage of any residual seal-ing compound. Return the equipment to thecargo compartment.
14.Immediately drive the vehicle at least 3 km(2 miles) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h(50 mph) to allow the sealing compound toseal the tire, and then recheck the inflationpressure.
NOTE
During the tire's first revolution, some sealingcompound may spray out of the puncturehole.
WARNING
Before driving away, make sure that no one isnear the vehicle who could be sprayed withsealing compound. Make sure no one iswithin 2 meters(7 feet) of the vehicle.
15.Rechecking the inflation pressure
Connect the hose to the tire's valve andscrew the hose connector onto the valve asfar as possible. The compressor must beswitched off.
16.Check the inflation pressure on the air pres-sure gauge.
If the pressure is under 1.3 bar (19 psi),the tire is not sufficiently sealed. The vehi-cle should not be driven. Call roadsideassistance to have the vehicle towed.
If the inflation pressure is higher than1.3 bar (19 psi), the tire must be inflatedto the inflation pressure specified on thetire pressure decal on the driver's sidedoor pillar (1 bar = 100 kPa = 14.5 psi). Ifthe inflation pressure is too high, use theair release valve to release air.
NOTE
Replace the sealing compound bottle andhose after use. Volvo recommends havingthese replaced by an authorized Volvo work-shop.
WARNING
Check inflation pressure regularly.
Volvo recommends driving to the nearest author-ized Volvo workshop to have the tire replaced/repaired. Inform the workshop that the tire con-tains sealing compound.

The sealing compound bottle must be replacedafter use. Volvo recommends contacting anauthorized Volvo workshop for replacement.
WARNING
After using the tire sealing system, the vehicleshould not be driven farther than approxi-mately 200 km (120 miles).
NOTE
The compressor is an electric device. Followlocal regulations for disposal.

The vehicle's original tires can be inflated usingthe compressor in the tire sealing system.
1. The compressor must be switched off. Makesure that the switch is in the 0 (Off) positionand take out the electrical cable and thehose.

7. Screw the valve cap back onto the tire.

WARNING
Exceeding the permissible axle weight,gross vehicle weight, or any other weightrating limits can cause tire overheatingresulting in permanent deformation orcatastrophic failure.
Do not use replacement tires with lowerload carrying capacities than the tires thatwere original equipment on the vehiclebecause this will lower the vehicle's GVWrating. Use only tires with the correct loadcarrying capacity. Consult your Volvoretailer for information.

Tunnel console
The tunnel console is located between the frontseats.
Storage compartment with cover*. The covercan be opened/closed by pressing the han-dle.
Storage compartment with cup holder and12 V socket.

WARNING

NOTE
One of the sensors for the alarm* is locatedunder the cup holder in the center console.Avoid placing coins, keys and other metalobjects in the cup holder as this could triggerthe alarm.

Using the electrical outlets
The 12 V outlet can be used for devicesintended for this such as MP3 players, coolersand cellular phones.
The high-voltage outlet* can be used for devicesintended for this, such as chargers, laptops, etc.
The ignition must be in at least mode I for theoutlets to supply current. The outlets will then beactive as long as there is sufficient charge in thestart battery.
If the engine is turned off and the vehicle islocked, the outlets will be deactivated. If theengine is turned off and the vehicle remainsunlocked, the sockets will remain active for up to7 minutes.
NOTE
Bear in mind that using the electrical outletswhen the engine is off could cause the starterbattery to have too low of a charge level,which could limit other functionality.
Accessories connected to the electrical out-lets can be activated even when the vehicleelectrical system is off or if preconditioning isused. For this reason, disconnect plugs whenthey are not in use to prevent the starter bat-tery from becoming discharged.
WARNING
Do not use accessories with large orheavy plugs – they could damage the out-let or come loose while you are driving.
Do not use accessories that could causedisruptions to e.g. the vehicle's radioreceiver or electrical system.
Position the accessory so that there is norisk of it injuring the driver or passengersin the event of heavy braking or a colli-sion.
Pay attention to connected accessoriesas they can generate heat that could burnpassengers or the interior.
Using 12 V outlets
1. Remove the stopper (tunnel console) or folddown the cover (trunk/cargo compartment)over the socket and plug in the device.
2. Unplug the device and put the stopper backin (tunnel console) or fold up the cover(trunk/cargo compartment) when the socketis not in use or left unattended.
CAUTION
The maximum power is 120 W (10 A) peroutlet.
Using high-voltage outlets
The ignition must be in at least mode I for outletsto supply current. The outlets will then be activeas long as there is sufficient charge in the startbattery.
1.Slide down the cover over the outlet and plugin the device.
>The LED2 light on the outlet will indicateits status.
2. The outlet is supplying electrical currentwhen the light is glowing steadily green.
3. Disconnect the device by pulling out the plug(do not pull on the cord).
Pull up the cover when the outlet is not inuse or is left unattended.
CAUTION
The maximum power is 150 W.
WARNING
Do not attempt to alter or repair the high-volt-age outlet on your own. Volvo recommendscontacting an authorized Volvo workshop.

WARNING
Only use accessories that are not dam-aged or malfunctioning. The accessoriesmust be designed for 120 V and 60 Hz,with plugs intended for the outlet. Theaccessories must be CE marked, ULmarked or have an equivalent safetymarking.
New let outlets, plugs or accessoriescome into contact with water or anotherfluid. Do not touch or use the outlet if itappears damaged or has been in contactwith water or another fluid.
Do not connect power strips, adapters orextension cords to the outlet has thiscould cause the outlet's safety functionsto malfunction.
The outlet is equipped with a pet guard.Make sure that no one picks at or dam-ages the outlet in such a way that theguard is disabled. Children should not beleft unsupervised in the vehicle when theoutlet is active.
Failure to follow the above could lead tosevere or fatal electrical shocks.

Using the glove compartment
The glove compartment is located on the pas-senger side. The glove compartment can beused to store the Owner's Manual, maps, etc.There is also room for a pen and a card holder.
Locking and unlocking the glove box *
The glove compartment can be locked when thevehicle is left at a workshop, hotel, etc. The glovecompartment can then only be locked/unlockedwith the glove compartment key.

Cargo compartment
The vehicle has a flexible cargo compartmentthat makes it possible to carry and secure largeobjects.
The cargo capacity of the vehicle can be consid-erably increased by folding down the rear seatbackrests. To make loading and unloading easier,the rear section of the vehicle can be raised andlowered using the level control function*. Use theload anchoring eyelets or grocery bag holders tohelp secure objects in place, and the retractablecargo compartment cover* to help concealobjects in the cargo compartment.
If the vehicle is equipped with a temporary sparetire, this is secured to the cargo compartmentfloor under the cover. The towing eyelet and tiresealing system are located under the cargo com-partment floor.

Loading recommendations
There are a number of things to consider whencarrying loads in or on the vehicle.
Load-carrying capacity is determined by the vehi-cle's curb weight. The total weight of all passen-gers and any installed accessories reduces thevehicle's load-carrying capacity by the corres-ponding amount.
WARNING
The vehicle's driving characteristics changedepending on the weight and position of theload.
Loading the cargo compartment/trunk
Position objects so they are pressing againstthe rear seat backrests.
Distribute the load evenly.
Heavy objects should be positioned as lowas possible. Avoid placing heavy objects onfolded-down seat backrests.
Cover sharp corners with a soft cloth or simi-lar to help prevent damage to the upholstery.
Use the load anchoring eyelets and tension-ing straps or similar to secure all objects.
WARNING
In a head-on collision at a speed of 50 km/h(30 mph), an unsecured object weighing 20kg (44 pounds) can reach a projectile weightequivalent to 1000 kg (2200 pounds).
WARNING
If objects are loaded higher than the upperedge of the side windows, leave a 10 cm (4in.) space between the objects and the win-dow. Objects placed closer to this couldimpede the function of the inflatable curtainconcealed inside the headlining.
WARNING
Always secure the load. Otherwise, it may shiftduring heavy braking and injure people in thevehicle.
Cover sharp edges and sharp corners withsomething soft.
Turn off the engine and apply the parkingbrake when loading/unloading long objects.Otherwise, it is possible for the load to reachthe gear lever or gear selector and move it toa drive position – which could cause the vehi-cle to begin rolling.

Extra cargo space
The rear seat backrests can be folded down toincrease cargo compartment space and simplifyloading. If the rear seat backrests are foldeddown, make sure that no objects loaded into thevehicle prevent the WHIPS system for the frontseats from functioning correctly.
The ski hatch in the rear seat can be folded downto carry skis or other long, thin objects.
Raising/lowering the rear end of the
vehicle *
The rear end of the vehicle can be lowered orraised for easier loading or to facilitate attachinga trailer*.
The controls for raising/lowering are located atthe rear edge of the cargo compartment's rightside panel.

The controls consist of two buttons ‒ one buttonfor lowering and one button for raising the rearend. Press and hold the relevant button until thedesired height is reached.
The rear end of the vehicle cannot be raisedhigher than its normal height.
The rear end will return to the normal heightwhen the vehicle begins driving.
NOTE
It is not possible to adjust the height of thevehicle's rear when one or more of the doorsor the hood is open. This does not apply tothe tailgate.
WARNING
Make sure that no people, animals or objectsare found under the vehicle when it is low-ered. This could endanger life and causedamage to the vehicle or objects.

Roof loads and load carriers
Volvo-developed load carriers are recommendedfor carrying loads on the roof of the vehicle.
Volvo load carriers are specially designed to helpprevent damage to your vehicle and help ensuremaximum safety while driving. Volvo load carriersare available from authorized Volvo retailers.
Carefully follow the installation instructions provi-ded with the load carriers.
Distribute the load evenly throughout theload carriers. Place heavier cargo at the bot-tom of the load.
Check periodically to ensure that the loadcarriers and load are properly secured.Secure the load firmly using tie straps orsimilar.
If the load is longer than the vehicle, such asa canoe or kayak, attach the towing eyelet inits front outlet and secure the tie straps in it.
The vehicle's wind resistance and fuel con-sumption increase with the size of the load.
Drive smoothly. Avoid rapid acceleration, hardbraking and fast cornering.
WARNING
The vehicle's center of gravity and drivingcharacteristics are altered by roof loads.
Follow the vehicle's specifications regardingweights and maximum permitted load.
