Put the key blade back into its designatedspot in the remote key after use.
Replace the cover by pressing it downuntil it clicks into place.
Slide the cover back.
>An additional click indicates that the coveris correctly in place.

Remote key (p. 237)
Locking and unlocking withdetachable key blade
The detachable key blade can be used to unlockthe vehicle from the outside, e.g. if the battery inthe remote key is discharged.
Unlocking
Pull the front left-hand door handle to its endposition to access the lock cylinder.
Put the key in the lock cylinder.
Turn the key clockwise 45 degrees so thatthe key blade is pointing straight rearward.
Turn the key blade back 45 degrees to itsoriginal position. Remove the key from thelock cylinder and release the handle so that itreturns to its original position against thevehicle.
5.Pull the door handle.
> The door will open.
Lock the door in the same way, but turn the key45 degrees counterclockwise in step (3).
Turning off the alarm
NOTE
When the door is unlocked using the detach-able key blade and then opened, the alarmwill be triggered.
Location of the backup key reader in the cup holder.
Turn off the alarm by:
1.Place the remote control key on the key sym-bol in the backup reader in the bottom of thecup holder in the tunnel console.
2. Turn the start knob clockwise and release it.
> The start knob will automatically return toits original position - the alarm signal willstop and the alarm will be turned off.

Locking
The vehicle can also be locked using the remotekey's detachable key blade, e.g. if either the vehi-cle's or remote key's batteries are discharged.
The left-hand front door can be locked by insert-ing the detachable key into the door's lock cylin-der.
This is the only door with a lock cylinder. Theother doors have lock mechanisms in the side ofthe door that must be pushed in using the keyblade. The door will then be locked mechanicallyand cannot be opened from the outside.
The doors can still be opened from inside.
Manual door lock. This is not the child lock.
–Remove the detachable key blade from theremote key. Insert the key blade into theopening for the lock mechanism and pushthe key in as far as possible, about 12 mm(0.5 in).
The door can be opened from both the out-side and the inside.
The door cannot be opened from the outside.To return to position A, open the door usingthe inside door handle.
The doors can also be unlocked by pressing theunlock button on the remote key or the centrallock button in the driver's door.
NOTE
The door's lock controls only lock thatspecific door, not all doors simultane-ously.
A manually locked rear door with an acti-vated manual or electric child safety lockcannot be opened from either the outsideor inside of the vehicle. A rear doorlocked in this way can only be unlockedusing the remote key or the centralunlocking button.

Electronic immobilizer
The electronic immobilizer is a start inhibitor thathelps prevent the vehicle from being started byan unauthorized person.
The vehicle can only be started with the rightremote key.

Pressure-sensitive surfaces
Door handle
There are indentations on the outside of theouter door handles for locking, and pressure-sen-sitive surfaces on the inside of the handles forunlocking.

NOTE
It is important that only one pressure-sensi-tive surface is activated at a time. If the han-dle is grasped at the same time as the lockarea is pressed, there is a risk that doublecommands may be sent. This may cause therequested action (locking/unlocking) to bedelayed or not performed at all.
Tailgate
The tailgate handle has a rubberized pressureplate that can only be used for unlocking.
NOTE
Please be aware that the system could beactivated in a car wash if the remote key iswithin range.

Keyless locking and unlocking*
The vehicle can be locked or unlocked from out-side using the door or tailgate handles if thevehicle is equipped with keyless locking/unlock-ing (Passive Entry)*.
NOTE
One of the vehicle's remote keys must bewithin range for locking and unlocking to bepossible.

Keyless locking
All of the doors have to be closed before thevehicle can be locked. However, the tailgate canbe open when a door handle is used for locking.
–To lock, touch the marked area on the out-side of one of the door handles after thedoor is closed or press the button on the
lower edge of the tailgate12 before it isclosed.
>The lock indicator light in the windshieldwill flash to confirm that the vehicle islocked.
To close all door windows at the same time -place your finger on the pressure-sensitiveindentation on the outside of the door handle andhold it there until the side windows have closed.
Locking when the tailgate is open
NOTE
If the vehicle is locked and the tailgate is stillopen, make sure that the remote key is notleft in the cargo compartment when the tail-gate is closed and the entire vehicle is locked.
If the key is detected in the vehicle, the tail-gate will not lock when it is closed.
Keyless unlocking
–To unlock, grasp a door handle or press therubberized pressure plate on the undersideof the tailgate handle.
>The lock indicator light in the windshieldwill go out to confirm that the vehicle isunlocked. Open the doors or tailgate asusual.
Automatic relocking
If none of the doors or tailgate are opened withintwo minutes after being unlocked, they will auto-matically relock. This function reduces the risk ofinadvertently leaving the vehicle unlocked.

Several different sequences are available forkeyless unlocking.
1.Tap Settings in the center display's Topview.
2.Tap My CarLockingKeyless Unlock
3. Select alternative:
All Doors
- unlocks all doors at the same time.
Single Door
- unlocks the selected door.

Keyless tailgate unlock*
The tailgate can be opened using the remotekey. The key only needs to be within range, e.g.in a pocket or bag.
The tailgate is held closed by an electronic lock-ing mechanism.
To open the tailgate:
1.Lightly press the rubberized pressure plateon the underside of the tailgate handle.
> The lock will disengage.
NOTE
One of the vehicle's remote keys must bewithin range behind the vehicle for unlockingto be possible.
2. Lift the outer handle to fully open the tail-gate.
CAUTION
Only light pressure on the rubberized pres-sure plate is necessary to release the tail-gate's locking mechanism.
Use the handle to lift the tailgate and donot apply force to the rubberized pressureplate. Too much force can damage thepressure plate's electrical connections.
Hands-free unlocking of the tailgate is also pos-sible using a foot movement under the rearbumper; see the separate section.
WARNING
Do not drive with the tailgate open. Toxicexhaust fumes can be sucked into the vehiclethrough the cargo compartment.

Individuals with an implanted pacemakershould not allow the pacemaker to comecloser than 22 cm (9 in.) to the Keyless sys-tem antennas. The aim of this is to preventdisturbances between the pacemaker and theKeyless system.

Locking and unlocking from insidethe vehicle
The doors and tailgate can be locked andunlocked from inside the vehicle using the cen-tral lock buttons in the front doors. The lock but-tons in the rear doors* can be used to lock/unlock that particular door.

Alternative unlocking method
Alternative unlocking method using side door openinghandle15.
–Pull either of the side door inside openinghandles and release.
>Depending on the remote key settings,either all doors will be unlocked or just theselected door will be unlocked andopened.

Locking using the front door buttons
–Press the button (both front doors mustbe closed).
>All doors and the tailgate will lock.
Locking using the rear door button *

The lock buttons in the rear doors only lock/unlock that particular door.
Unlocking the rear door
1. Pull the opening handle to unlock the reardoor.
2. Pull the opening handle again to open the

Unlocking the tailgate from insidethe vehicle
The tailgate can be locked from the inside usinga button on the dashboard.
1.
Press the button on the dashboard.
>The tailgate will unlock and can beopened from the outside by pressing therubberized pressure plate on the handle.
2.With the optional power tailgate* -
Press and hold the button on the dash-board.
>The tailgate will open.

Activating and deactivating childsafety locks
Child safety locks help prevent children fromopening the rear doors from inside the vehicle.There is an electric safety lock* and a manualsafety lock.

The electric child safety lock can be activatedand deactivated in any ignition mode higher than0. The lock can be activated and deactivated upto 2 minutes after the ignition is turned off if nodoor has been opened.
