Properly dispose of any vehicle-related wastesuch as used motor oil, used batteries, brakepads, etc.
When cleaning your vehicle, please use gen-uine Volvo car care products. All Volvo carcare products are formulated to be environ-mentally friendly.

Twin Engine vehicles
If possible, precondition the vehicle with thecharging cable before driving.
If preconditioning is not possible in coldweather, use the seat and steering wheelheating primarily. Avoid heating the entirepassenger compartment, which reduces thehybrid battery's charge level.
Choose the Pure drive mode to help mini-mize electric power consumption.
In hilly terrain, put the gear selector in modeB to utilize the electric motor's braking func-tion when the accelerator pedal is released.This helps charge the hybrid battery.

IntelliSafe - driver support
IntelliSafe is Volvo Cars' philosophy regardingvehicle safety. IntelliSafe consists of a number ofsystems, both standard and optional, that aredesigned to help make driving safer, preventaccidents and protect passengers and otherroad users.
Support
IntelliSafe includes driver support functions suchas Adaptive cruise control* which helps the driverto maintain an even speed combined with a pre-selected time interval to the vehicle ahead.
Pilot Assist2 helps the driver keep the vehicle inthe current traffic lane by providing steeringassistance and maintaining an even speed and aset time interval to the vehicle ahead.
Park Assist Pilot* helps the driver pull into andout of parking spaces.
Other examples of systems that can help thedriver are the Active main beam, Cross TrafficAlert (CTA)* and Blind Spot Information (BLIS)*systems.

Prevention

Slippery driving conditions
For optimal traction and roadholding, Volvo rec-ommends using snow tires on all wheels when-ever there is a risk of snow or ice on the road.

NOTE
Certain countries require use of winter tiresby law. Not all countries permit the use ofstudded tires.
Practice driving on slippery surfaces under con-trolled conditions to learn how the vehicle reacts.

Driving through standing water
Driving the vehicle through a deep pool of stand-ing water on a water-covered roadway is calledfording. This must be done with great caution.
To prevent damage to the vehicle when drivingthrough water (e.g. on flooded roads):
Do not drive in water higher than the floor ofthe vehicle. If possible, check the depth ofthe water at its deepest point before drivingthrough it. Be particularly careful when driv-ing through flowing water.
Always select the Off Road drive modebefore driving in water to ensure the gasolineengine is running.
Do not drive faster than walking speed.
Do not stop the vehicle in the water. Drivecarefully forward or back the vehicle out ofthe water.
Remember that waves created by passingvehicles could cause the water level to riseabove the vehicle's floor level.
Avoid driving through salt water to help avoidthe risk of corrosion.
CAUTION
Parts of the vehicle (e.g. engine, transmission,driveline, electrical components, etc.) can bedamaged if the vehicle is driven through waterhigher than its floor level. Damage to anycomponents caused by flooding, vapor lock orinsufficient oil is not covered under warranty.
If the engine stalls while the vehicle is inwater, do not attempt to restart it. Have thevehicle towed on the bed of a tow truck to aworkshop - an authorized Volvo workshop isrecommended.

CAUTION
Because it can be difficult to determine thewater depth, avoid driving through standing orrunning water.
When you have passed the water, press lightly onthe brake pedal and check that the brakes arefunctioning properly. Water, mud, slush, etc. canmake the brake linings slippery, resulting indelayed braking effect.
If the vehicle is equipped with a trailer couplingcontact, clean the contact after driving in water ormud.

imprinted on the sidewall of the tire. The last fourdigits in the series is the Department ofTransportation (DOT) stamp and indicates theweek and year the tire was manufactured. Thetire in the illustration has 0717 as the last fourdigits, which means it was manufactured week 7of 2017.

Tire age
Tires degrade over time, even when they are notbeing used. It is recommended that tires gener-ally be replaced after 6 years of normal service.Heat caused by hot climates, frequent high load-ing conditions or Ultra Violet (U.V.) exposure canaccelerate the aging process. The temporary
spare 2 should also be replaced at 6-year inter-vals, even if it has never been used. A tire withe.g., visible cracks or discoloration should bereplaced immediately.

Tire economy
Maintain correct tire pressure.
Avoid fast starts, hard braking and tirescreeching.
Tire wear increases with speed.
Correct front wheel alignment is very impor-tant.
Unbalanced wheels impair tire economy anddriving comfort.
Tires must maintain the same direction ofrotation throughout their lifetime.
When replacing tires, the tires with the mosttread should be mounted on the rear wheelsto reduce the chance of oversteer duringhard braking.
Hitting curbs or potholes can damage thetires and/or wheels permanently.
Tire rotation
Your vehicle has no required tire rotation. Drivingstyle, tire pressure, climate and road conditionsaffect how quickly the tires age and exhibit signsof wear. Maintaining the correct tire pressurehelps keep tread wear evenly distributed.
To help prevent differences in tread depth andwear patterns forming on the tires, the front andrear wheels should be rotated, i.e. the front tiresmoved to the rear and the rear tires moved to thefront. Ideally, tire rotation should be done the firsttime after approximately 5000 km (ca3100 miles) and thereafter at 10,000 km(approx. 6200 miles) intervals.
If you have any questions regarding tread depth,Volvo recommends consulting an authorizedVolvo workshop. If significant differences in wear(> 1 mm difference in tread depth) between thetires have already occurred, the least worn tiresshould always be mounted on the rear wheels. Afront-wheel skid (understeer) is usually easier to
control than a rear-wheel skid (oversteer). If thefront wheels skid, the vehicle will continue in astraight line instead of the rear wheels skiddingto the side, which could cause you to completelylose control of the vehicle. It is therefore impor-tant that the rear wheels never lose grip beforethe front wheels.
Storing wheels and tires
When storing complete wheels (tires mounted onrims), they should be suspended off the floor orplaced on their sides on the floor.
Tires not mounted on rims should be stored ontheir sides or standing upright, but should not besuspended.

CAUTION
Tires should preferably be stored in a cool,dry, dark place, and should never be stored inclose proximity to solvents, gasoline, oils, etc.

Engine oil
For the recommended service intervals and war-ranties to be applied, an approved engine oilmust be used.
Volvo recommends:
If the engine oil is not checked regularly and thelevel becomes low, this could cause seriousengine damage.

CAUTION
To satisfy the requirements for the engine'sservice intervals, all engines are factory-filledwith a specially adapted synthetic engine oil.Great care has been put into the choice of oil,with consideration given to service life, starta-bility, fuel consumption and environmentalimpact.
For the recommended service intervals toapply, an approved engine oil must be used.Only use the prescribed oil grade to top off orchange the oil. Otherwise, there is a risk ofthe vehicle's service life, startability, fuel con-sumption and environmental impact beingaffected.
Failure to use engine oil of the prescribedgrade and viscosity could cause damage toengine-related components. Volvo Car Corpo-ration disclaims warranty liability for such typeof damage.
Volvo recommends entrusting oil changes toan authorized Volvo workshop.
Volvo uses different systems to warn if the oillevel is too low/high or the oil pressure is low. Onengine variants with an oil pressure sensor, a
warning symbol is displayed in the instrument
panel when oil pressure is low . On engine
variants with an oil level sensor, the warn-ing symbol in the instrument panel and displaymessages are used to alert the driver. Someengine variants have both systems. Contact aVolvo retailer for more information.
Change the engine oil and oil filter according tothe schedule specified in the Warranty and Main-tenance Records Information booklet. Oils of ahigher grade than that specified may be used. Ifthe vehicle is driven in adverse conditions, Volvorecommends using an oil with a higher gradethan that specified.

Checking and filling engine oil
The engine oil level is monitored by an electronicoil level sensor.
Filler pipe13.
It may be necessary to top up engine oil betweenregularly scheduled services.
No action is necessary with regard to engine oillevel until a message appears in the instrumentpanel.

WARNING
If this symbol is shown togetherwith the message Engine oil levelService required, visit a workshop– an authorized Volvo workshop isrecommended. The oil level may be too high.
CAUTION
If this symbol is shown togetherwith a message about low oil level,for example Engine oil level lowRefill 1 liter, fill only with the indi-cated volume, e.g. 1 liter (1 quart).

WARNING
Do not spill oil on the hot exhaust pipes asthis could cause a fire.

Viewing oil level in the center display
The oil level can be viewed using the electronicoil level gauge in the center display once thevehicle has been started. The oil level should bechecked regularly.
1.Open the Car Status app from App view inthe center display.
2.Tap Status to display the oil level.

NOTE
The system cannot directly detect changeswhen the oil is filled or drained. The vehiclemust have been driven approximately 30 km(20 miles) and have been stationary5 minutes on a level surface and with theengine off before the correct oil level will bedisplayed.

Cleaning fabric upholstery andceiling liner
Only use cleaning agents and car care productsrecommended by Volvo. Clean regularly andtreat stains immediately for best results. It isimportant to vacuum before using a cleaningagent.

Fabric upholstery and ceiling liner
Never scrape or rub a stain, as this could damagethe upholstery. Never use strong stain removers,as this could change the color of the upholstery.
Use soapy water or a similar detergent. For moredifficult stains caused by oil, ice cream, shoe pol-ish, etc., use a stain remover. Consult with yourVolvo retailer.

Remove the inlay mats to clean the floor matsand inlay mats separately. Use a vacuum toremove dust and dirt. Each inlay mat is securedinto place with pins.
Remove the inlay mat by grasping the inlay matat each pin and lifting the mat straight up.
Put the inlay mat back into place by pressing it inat each pin.

Cleaning the leather upholstery
1. Apply the leather cleaner to a damp spongeand squeeze it until the cleaner foams.
2. Move the sponge in circular motions to applythe foam to the stain.
3. Dampen the stain thoroughly with thesponge. Let the sponge absorb the stain anddo not rub.
4. Dry the stain using a soft towel and let theleather dry completely.

Protecting the leather upholstery
1. Apply a small amount of leather protector toa cloth and then apply the protector to theleather using light circular movements.
2. Let it dry for approximately 20 minutes.
Protecting the leather upholstery makes it betterable to withstand sunlight's harmful UV rays.

Leather steering wheel
Leather needs to breathe. Never cover theleather steering wheel with a plastic protector.Volvo Leather Care Kit 951 0251 and LeatherSoftener 943 7429 are recommended for clean-ing the leather steering wheel. First, remove dirt,dust, etc. with a damp sponge or cloth.

CAUTION
Sharp objects such as rings could damagethe leather on the steering wheel.

If there are stains on the steering wheel:
Type 1(ink, wine, coffee, milk, sweat or blood)
–Use a soft cloth or sponge. Wipe the steeringwheel using a solution of 5% ammonia. Forblood stains, mix approximately 2 dl(1 cup) ofwater with 25 g (one ounce) of salt and wipethe stain.
Type 2(grease, oil, sauces or chocolate)
1.Same procedure as for Type 1 stains.
2. Finish by wiping the wheel with an absorbentpaper or towel.
Type 3(dry dirt or dust)
1. Remove the dirt/dust using a soft brush.
2. Same procedure as for Type 1 stains.

Do not use solvent containing alcohol toclean the instrument panel glass.

CAUTION
Keep in mind that glossy surfaces can beeasily scratched. Wipe these surfaces with aclean and dry microfiber cloth using small, cir-cular motions. If necessary, moisten the clothlightly with clean water.

Polishing and waxing
Polish and wax the vehicle when the paint ismatte or to provide extra protection. The vehicledoes not need to be polished until it is at least ayear old. However, it can be waxed during thefirst year. Do not polish or wax the vehicle indirect sunlight. The surface of the vehicle shouldnot be warmer than 45 °C (113 °F).
Wash and dry the vehicle very carefullybefore polishing or waxing. Remove asphaltand tar stains with asphalt remover or paintthinner. More stubborn stains can beremoved with a grinding paste designed forvehicle paint.
Use polish first and then liquid or paste wax.Follow the instructions on the package care-fully. Many products contain both polish andwax.
A wide range of polymer-based waxes canbe purchased today. These waxes are easy touse and produce a long-lasting, high-glossfinish that protects the bodywork against oxi-dation, road dirt and fading.

CAUTION
Avoid waxing and polishing plastic and rubber.
If using degreaser on plastic and rubber, onlyrub (if necessary) with slight pressure. Use asoft sponge.
Polishing glossy trim moldings can wear awayor damage the glossy surface layer.
Polish containing abrasives must not be used.

CAUTION
Only use paintwork treatments recommendedby Volvo. Other treatments, such as preserva-tion, sealing, protection, luster sealing or simi-lar, could damage the paintwork. Paintworkdamage caused by such treatments are notcovered by Volvo's warranty.

Hand washing
Keep the following points in mind when washingthe vehicle:
Avoid washing the vehicle in direct sunlight.This could cause the detergent or wax to dryout and become abrasive.
Remove bird droppings from paintwork assoon as possible. It contains chemicals thataffect and discolor paintwork very quickly.Use e.g. soft paper or a sponge soaked inlots of water. Consult an authorized Volvoworkshop for assistance removing discolora-tion.
Hose down the underbody, including thewheel housings and bumper.
Hose down the entire vehicle and removeany loose dirt, droppings etc. to reduce therisk of scratches from washing. Do not spraydirectly onto locks.
If necessary, use cold degreaser on heavilysoiled surfaces. Note that in such cases thesurfaces must not be hot from the sun.

Cleaning exterior plastic, rubber andtrim components
The vehicle should be washed as soon as itbecomes dirty. This makes the vehicle easier toclean because dirt does not attach as strongly. Italso reduces the risk of scratches and keeps thevehicle looking new. Wash the vehicle in a carwash or garage with an oil separator and use carwashing detergent.

Exterior plastic, rubber and trim
components
A special cleaning agent available from Volvoretailers is recommended for the cleaning andcare of colored plastic parts, rubber and trimcomponents, e.g. glossy trim. Follow the usageinstructions for the cleaning agent carefully.
Avoid using car washing detergents with a pHvalue lower than 3.5 or higher than 11.5. Doingso could result in the discoloring of anodized alu-minum surfaces* (as shown in the illustrationsbelow). Abrasive polishing agents are not recom-mended for these areas (as shown in the illustra-tions below).
Components that should be washed with a cleaningproduct with a pH value between 3.5 and 11.5.

CAUTION
Avoid waxing and polishing plastic and rubber.
If using degreaser on plastic and rubber, onlyrub (if necessary) with slight pressure. Use asoft sponge.
Polishing glossy trim moldings can wear awayor damage the glossy surface layer.
Polish containing abrasives must not be used.
CAUTION
Avoid washing the vehicle with cleaner with apH value below 3.5 or above 11.5. This couldcause discoloration of anodized aluminumcomponents like the roof rail and around theside windows.
Never use metal polishing agent on anodizedaluminum components. This could cause dis-coloration and destroy the surface treatment.
