Activating/deactivatingtheairbag(SRS)Indicatorshowingthatthepassengerairbag
(SRS)isdeactivated.PACOS(option)Theairbag(SRS)forthefrontpassenger
seatcanbedeactivatedusingaswitch.This
isnecessaryifachildseatistobeplaced
thereforexample.
Indicator
Atextmessageintherearviewmirrorindi-
catesthatthepassengerairbag(SRS)is
deactivated.
SwitchforPACOS(PassengerAirbagCut
OffSwitch).Activating/deactivating
Theswitchislocatedonthepassengerend
ofthedashboardandisaccessiblewhenthe
passengerdoorisopen.Checkthatthe
switchisintherequiredposition.Volvorec-
ommendsthatthattheignitionkeyisusedto
changeposition.(Otheritemswithashape
similartoakeycanbeused).
WARNING!
Ifthecarisequippedwithafrontpassen-
gerairbag(SRS),butdoesnothave
PACOS,theairbagwillalwaysbeacti-
vated.
WARNING!
Activatedairbag(passengerseat):
Neverplaceachildinachildseatorona
boostercushioninthefrontpassenger
seatwhentheairbagisactivated.This
alsoappliestoanyoneshorterthan
140cm.
Deactivatedairbag(passengerseat):
Noonetallerthan140cmshouldeversit
inthefrontpassengerseatwhenthe
airbagisdeactivated.
Failuretofollowtheadvicegivenabove
canendangerlife.

SwitchforSRSinOFFposition.OFF=Airbag(SRS)isdeactivated.Withthe
switchinthisposition,childreninachildseat
oronaboostercushioncansitinthefront
passengerseat,butneverpersonstallerthan
140cm.
WARNING!
Donotallowanyonetositinthefrontpas-
sengerseatifthetextmessageintheroof
panelindicatesthattheairbag(SRS)is
deactivatedandtheairbagwarningsym-
bolisdisplayedinthecombinedinstru-
mentpanel.Thisindicatesthattherehas
beenaseveremalfunction.Contactan
authorisedVolvoworkshopassoonas
possible.

ingisrecommended:
Havethecartransportedtoanauthorised
Volvoworkshop.Donotdrivewith
deployedairbags.
HaveanauthorisedVolvoworkshop
replacecomponentsinthecar’ssafety
system.
Alwayscontactadoctor.
NOTE!TheSRS,SIPS,ICandbelttensioner
systemsaredeployedonlyonceduringa
collision. SystemTriggered
SeatbelttensionerInafrontalcollisionand/orside-impactaccident.

objecthit,thespeedofthecar,theangleofthecollisionetc.affectshowthedifferentsafetysystemsofthecarareactivated.
WARNING!
TheAirbagcontrolunitislocatedinthe
centreconsole.Ifthecentreconsoleis
drenchedwithwaterorotherliquid,dis-
connectthebatterycables.Donot
attempttostartthecarsincetheairbags
maydeploy.Havethecartransportedto
anauthorisedVolvoworkshop.
WARNING!
Neverdrivewithdeployedairbags.They
canmakesteeringdifficult.Othersafety
systemsmayalsobedamaged.The
smokeanddustcreatedwhentheairbags
aredeployedcancauseskinandeyeirri-
tationafterintensiveexposure.Incaseof
irritation,washwithcoldwater.Therapid
deploymentsequenceandairbagfabric
maycausefrictionandskinburns.

ChildsafetyChildrenshouldsitcomfortably
andsafelyThepositionofachildinthecarandthe
choiceofequipmentisdictatedbythechild’s
heightandsize,formoreinformation,see
page30.
Childrenwhoareshorterthan150cmmust
becarriedinadequatechildprotection.
NOTE!Regulationsregardingtheplacement
ofchildrenincarsvaryfromcountryto
country.Checkwhatlawsapply.Childrenofallagesandsizesmustalwayssit
correctlysecuredinthecar.Neverallowa
childtositonthekneeofapassenger.
Volvo’sownchildsafetyequipmentis
designedforyourcar.UseVolvogenuine
equipmenttobestensurethatthemounting
pointsandattachmentsarecorrectlyposi-
tionedandaresufficientlystrong.
Youmayplace:
achildseatorboostercushiononthe
frontpassengerseat,providedthe
passengerairbagisnotactivated

thatusesthebackofthefrontseatas
support.ChildseatandseatbeltreminderIfarear-facinginfantorchildseatisplacedin
thefrontseatandsecuredusingtheseatbelt,
theseatbeltremindermightnotbeactivated.

CargocompartmentGeneralPayloaddependsonthecar’stotalkerb
weight,includinganyaccessoriesthatare
mounted.Kerbweightincludesthedriver,the
weightofthefueltankwhenfilledto90%
andvariousfluids,suchaswasherfluidand
coolant.Mountedaccessories,i.e.towbar,
loadcarriers,spacebox,etc.,areincludedin
thekerbweight.
Thepayloadofthecarisreducedbythe
numberofpassengersandtheirweight.LoadingthecargocompartmentTheseatbeltsandairbagsprovidethedriver
andpassengerssubstantialprotection,
especiallyinhead-oncollisions.However,
youmustalsoremembertoprotectyourself
againstinjuriesfrombehind.Whenloadingcargo,bearinmindthatimproperlysecured
orincorrectlyloadedobjectsinthecargo
compartmentcouldbethrownforwardwith
greatspeedandforceintheeventofa
collisionorsuddenbraking,causingserious
injuries.
Bearinmindthatifanobjectweighing20kg
issubjectedtoahead-oncollisionataspeed
of50km/h,itsimpactweightwillbe
1000kg.
Thinkaboutthefollowingwhenloading:
Donotloadextremelyheavyobjectsup
bythefrontseats.Theloweredbackrest
willbepresseddownunnecessarilyhard.
Placetheloadbythebackrest.
Positionheavyloadsaslowaspossible.
Positionwideloadsoneachsideofthe
divisioninthebackrest.
Coversharpedgeswithsomethingsoft.
Securetheloadwithretainingstraps
usingthecar’slashingeyes.
Neverloadabovethebackrestwithouta
loadnet.
WARNING!
Thedrivingcharacteristicsofthecar
changebasedonthecar’skerbweight
andhowheavilyitisloaded.
WARNING!
Neverloadcargoabovethebackrests!If
youdoso,theloadcouldbethrown
forwardintheeventofsuddenbrakingor
acollisionandseverelyinjureyouoryour
passengers.Remembertoalwayssecure
(bind)theloadproperly.
Iftherearseatbackrestislowered,donot
loadthecarhigherthan50mmunderthe
topedgeoftherearpassengerwindows.
Leave10cmoffreespacefromthe
windowsinwards.Otherwise,the
intendedprotectionoftheinflatable
curtain,whichishiddenintheheadlining,
maybecompromised.
Alwayssecuretheload.Duringheavy
brakingtheloadmayotherwiseshift,
causingpersonalinjury.
Turnofftheengineandapplytheparking
brakewhenloadingorunloadinglong
objects!Youmayaccidentallyknockthe
gearleverorgearselectorwiththeload
andcauseageartoengageandthecarto
moveoff.
