Thewarningsymbolinthecombined
instrumentpanelcomesonirrespectiveof

alwaysdepresstheparkingbraketotheend
position.Activatetheparkingbrake:
–Pressthefootbrakedownfirmly.
–Depresstheparkingbraketotheend
position(1).
–Releasethefootbrakeandmakesure
thatthecarisstationary.
–Movethegearselectorintoposition:
1formanualgearbox
Pforautomatictransmission.
Parkingonahill
Ifthecarisparkeduphill,turnthewheels
awayfromthekerb.
Ifthecarisparkeddownhill,turnthe
wheelstowardthekerb.
Releasetheparkingbrake:
–Pressthefootbrakedownfirmly.
–Pulloutthehandle(2).

sothatthesocketcansupplypower.
SteeringwheeladjustmentThesteeringwheelcanbeadjustedboth
verticallyandfront-rear.Pressdownthe
controlontheleft-handsideofthesteering
column.Thenadjustthesteeringwheeltothe
positionthatsuitsyoubest.Pressthecontrol
backintoplacetolockthesteeringwheel.If
thisisdifficult,pressthesteeringwheel
slightlywhilepressingthecontrolback.
WARNING!
Closethebonnetbyplacingyourhandon
itstopandpressingdown.Donotcloseit
byholdingthegrille.Enginecomponents
ontheinsidecouldinjureyourfingers.

Adjustthesteeringwheelbeforedriving,

workshop.IceandsnowRemoveiceandsnowfromtheclimate
controlairintake(thegrillebetweenthe
bonnetandthewindscreen).FaulttracingAnauthorisedVolvoworkshophastheinstru-
mentsandtoolsrequiredforanyfaulttracing
orrepairofyourclimatecontrolsystem.
Entrustchecksandrepairsonlytotrained
personnel.RefrigerantTheairconditioningsystemcontainsR134a
refrigerant.Thisrefrigerantcontainsno
chlorine,whichmeansthatitisharmlessto
theozonelayer.Thesystemmustonlybe
chargedwithR134arefrigerant.Havean
authorisedVolvoworkshopcarryoutthis
work.
VentilationfanfunctionWhentheengineisoff(andiftheignitionkey
isinpositionIorII),theventilationfanis
automaticallyswitchedoff.Thisistoprevent
thebatteryfrombecomingdischarged.
Toactivatetheventilationfan,turnthefan
controlandsetthedesiredspeed.CarswithECCActualtemperature
Thetemperatureyouselectcorrespondsto
thephysicalexperiencewithreferencetoair
speed,humidity,exposuretosun,etc.which
affecttheinteriorandexteriorofthecar.
Sensors
Thesunsensorisontheupperportionofthe
dashboard.Remembernottocoverit.Donot
coverthepassengercompartmenttemper-
aturesensorontheclimatecontrolpanel.
Sidewindowsandsunroof
Toensurethattheairconditioningworks
satisfactorily,closeallsidewindowsandthe
sunroof(iffitted).
Acceleration
Theairconditioningsystemswitchesoff
temporarilyatfullacceleration.Youmayfeel
atemporaryriseintemperature.Condensation
Inwarmweather,condensationfromtheair
conditioningsystemmaydripunderthecar.
Thisisnormal.
Fueleconomy
WithECC,theairconditioningsystemis
controlledautomaticallyandisusedjust
enoughtocoolthepassengercompartment
andtoadequatelydehumidifytheincoming
air.Thisprovidesbetterfueleconomy
comparedtoconventionalsystemswherethe
airconditioningcoolstheairtojustabove
freezingpoint.

positionIorII.TheLEDinthebuttoncomes
onwhenthechildsafetylockisactivated.A
messageappearsinthedisplaywhenyou
activateordeactivatethechildsafetylock.
NOTE!Thereardoorscannotbeopened
fromtheinsideaslongastheelectricchild
safetylocksareactivated.Whenthealarmisarmed,itcontinually
monitorsallalarminputs.Thealarmis
triggeredif:
thebonnetisopened
thetailgateisopened
asidedoorisopened
theignitionswitchisturnedwithanon-
approvedkeyorsubjectedtoforce
ifmovementisdetectedinthepassenger
compartment
thecarisraisedortowedaway(iffitted
withatiltdetector–option)
abatterycableisdisconnected
anyonetriestodisconnectthesiren.

aremadeofgalvanisedsheetmetal.The
underbodyisprotectedbyawear-resistant
anti-corrosioncompound.Members,cavities
andenclosedsectionsaresprayedwitha
thin,penetratingrustinhibitor.
Thecar’srustproofingismaintainedbydoing
thefollowing:
Keepthecarclean!Hosedownthe
underbody.Whenhighpressurewashing,
holdthenozzleatleast30cmfrom
paintedsurfaces!
Checkandrepairtherustproofing
regularly.
Thecar’srustproofingdoesnotnormally
requiretreatmentforapproximately8years.
Afterthattime,itshouldbetreatedatthree
yearintervals.Ifyourcarrequirestreatment,
consultyourVolvoworkshop.RepairIfyouwanttorepairtherustproofingyourself,
makesuretheareaiscleananddry.Hose
down,washanddrythecarthoroughly.Use
arustproofingagentinaspraycanorone
thatisintendedforbrushapplication.Therearetwodifferenttypesofrustproofing
agents:
thin(colourless),forvisibleareas
thick,forareaspronetowearonthe
underbody
Possiblerepairareaswiththeseagents:
Visibleweldsandsheetmetaljoints;thin
fluid
Underbody;thickfluid
Doorhinges;thinfluid
Bonnethingesandcatch-thinfluid.
Onceyouhavefinishedtreatment,excess
rustproofingcanbewipedoffwitharag
dippedinarecommendedcleaningagent.
Partsoftheengineandsuspensionstrut
mountingsintheenginecompartmentare
treatedatthefactorywithawax-based,
colourlessrustproofing.Thiswithstands
normaldetergentswithoutdissolvingand
losingitsrustproofingability.
Ifyouwashtheengineusingaromatic
solvents,suchasturpentineorwhitespirit
(especiallythosethatdonotcontainemulsi-
fiers),theprotectivewaxshouldberenewed
afterwashing.YourVolvodealerhandles
suchwaxes.

mayvaryslightlyduetoenginevariant.
However,thecomponentslistedareinthe
samepositions.

directionindicator,parkinglamp
andsidemarkerlightTheentirelampinsertmustfirstberemoved
whenreplacingdippedbeam,mainbeamand
parkinglampbulbs.Toreplaceoneofthese
bulbs,dothefollowingandthenconsultthe
instructionsforthespecificlamp.
–Switchoffalllightsandturnignitionkey
toposition0.
–Openthebonnet.
–Releasetheinsertbypullingupthetwo
lockpinsholdingitinplace.
–Lifttheinsertstraightout.–Unplugtheconnectorbyfirstpressingin
thecatchfromunderneathandthen
pullingitupabitfromabove.
–Liftouttheentireheadlampinsertand
placeitonasoftsurfacesoasnotto
damagethelens.
Refittheheadlampinsertinreverseorder.
Checkthatthelockpinsarecorrectly
situated.
