InflatableCurtain(IC)PropertiesTheinflatablecurtain,IC(InflatableCurtain),
isasupplementtotheSIPSsystem.Itiscon-
cealedintheheadliningalongbothsidesof
theroofandprotectsbothfrontandrearseat
passengers.Theinflatablecurtainisacti-
vatedbysensorsinasufficientlyviolentcolli-
sionorifthecarisatriskfromoverturning.
Whendeployed,theinflatablecurtain
inflates.Theinflatablecurtainhelpstopre-
ventthedriverandpassengersfromstriking
theirheadsontheinsideofthecarduringa
collision.
IntheVolvoXC90,theinflatablecurtains
havebeendevelopedtoprotectoccupantsin
theeventofoverturning.Theinflatablecurtain
alsocoversthosetravellinginthethirdrowof
seatsinthevariantthatseatsseven.
WARNING!
Neverhangorfastenanythingontheroof
handles.Thehookisonlyintendedfor
lightoutergarments(notforhardobjects
suchasumbrellas).
Donotscreworfitanythingtothe
headlining,doorpillarsorsidepanels.
Thiscouldcompromisetheintended
protection.OnlyuseVolvogenuineparts
thatareapprovedforplacementinthese
areas.
WARNING!
Donotloadthecarhigherthan50mm
underthetopedgeoftherearpassenger
windows.Otherwise,theintendedprotec-
tionoftheinflatablecurtain,whichiscon-
cealedintheheadlining,maybecompro-

activatethewindscreenwasher.Headlampwasher(optiononcertainmarkets)
High-pressurewashoftheheadlamps
consumesagreatdealofwasherfluid.To
savefluid,theheadlampsareonlywashed
everyfifthtime(withinatenminuteperiod).If
tenminuteshaveelapsedsincethelast
windscreenwashing,theheadlampsreceive
ahigh-pressurewashthenexttimethe
windscreeniswashed.ReducedwashingIfonlyapprox.onelitreofwasherfluid
remainsinthereservoir,thesupplytothe
headlampsandtherearwindowiscutoffin
ordertoprioritisecleaningofthewindscreen.
Wiper/washerfunction–rearwindow.RearwindowwasherandwiperMovetheleverforwardtostarttherear
windowwasher.

PowerwindowsThepowerwindowsareoperatedusingthe
controlsinthedoorarmrests.Theignitionkey
mustbeturnedtopositionIorIIforthe
powerwindowstowork.Onceyoufinish
drivingandremovetheignitionkey,the
windowscanstillbeopenedorclosedas
longasneitherofthefrontdoorshasbeen
opened.
Openawindowbydepressingthefrontof
thecontrol,andcloseitbypullingupthefront
ofthecontrol.
Powerwindowsinthefront
doorsWindowscanbeopenedorclosedfromthe
frontseattwoways.
–Pressthecontrol(A)slightlydownorpull
itslightlyup.Thepowerwindowsgoup
ordownaslongastheswitchisactuated.
–Pressthecontrol(A)allthewaydownor
pullitallthewayup,andthenrelease.
Thewindowsthenopenorcloseautomat-
ically.Movementisstoppedifthewindow
isblockedinanyway.
NOTE!Thefunctionautoupforthe
passengersideisonlyavailableincertain
markets.
Controls(B)tooperatewindowsintherear
doors.Blockingpowerwindowsinthe
reardoorsThepowerwindowsintherearseatcanbe
blockedwiththeswitchonthedriver’sdoor
controlpanel.Alwaysremembertoswitchoff
currenttothepowerwindows(i.e.remove
theignitionkey)ifyouleavechildreninthecar
unattended.
LEDintheswitchisunlit
Thereardoorwindowscanbeoperatedboth
withthecontroloneachreardoorandwith
thecontrolsonthedriver’sdoor.
WARNING!
Iftherearechildreninthecar:
Remembertoswitchoffthesupplyto
thepowerwindowsbyremovingthe
ignitionkeyifthedriverleavesthecar.
Makesurethatchildren’sandother
passengers’handsareclearwhen
closingthewindows.

Whenyouunlockthecarwithoneofthe

theremotecontrol.Thenexttimeyouunlock
thecarwiththesameremotecontroland
openthedriver’sdoorwithinfiveminutes,the
mirrorswillassumetheirstoredpositions.Laminatedsidewindows
(option)Thelaminatedwindowsinthefrontandrear
doorsimprovesoundinsulationinthe

controlairintake(thegrillebetweenthe
bonnetandthewindscreen).FaulttracingAnauthorisedVolvoworkshophastheinstru-
mentsandtoolsrequiredforanyfaulttracing
orrepairofyourclimatecontrolsystem.
Entrustchecksandrepairsonlytotrained
personnel.RefrigerantTheairconditioningsystemcontainsR134a
refrigerant.Thisrefrigerantcontainsno
chlorine,whichmeansthatitisharmlessto
theozonelayer.Thesystemmustonlybe
chargedwithR134arefrigerant.Havean
authorisedVolvoworkshopcarryoutthis
work.
VentilationfanfunctionWhentheengineisoff(andiftheignitionkey
isinpositionIorII),theventilationfanis
automaticallyswitchedoff.Thisistoprevent
thebatteryfrombecomingdischarged.
Toactivatetheventilationfan,turnthefan
controlandsetthedesiredspeed.CarswithECCActualtemperature
Thetemperatureyouselectcorrespondsto
thephysicalexperiencewithreferencetoair
speed,humidity,exposuretosun,etc.which
affecttheinteriorandexteriorofthecar.
Sensors
Thesunsensorisontheupperportionofthe
dashboard.Remembernottocoverit.Donot
coverthepassengercompartmenttemper-
aturesensorontheclimatecontrolpanel.
Sidewindowsandsunroof
Toensurethattheairconditioningworks
satisfactorily,closeallsidewindowsandthe
sunroof(iffitted).
Acceleration
Theairconditioningsystemswitchesoff
temporarilyatfullacceleration.Youmayfeel
atemporaryriseintemperature.Condensation
Inwarmweather,condensationfromtheair
conditioningsystemmaydripunderthecar.
Thisisnormal.
Fueleconomy
WithECC,theairconditioningsystemis
controlledautomaticallyandisusedjust
enoughtocoolthepassengercompartment
andtoadequatelydehumidifytheincoming
air.Thisprovidesbetterfueleconomy
comparedtoconventionalsystemswherethe
airconditioningcoolstheairtojustabove
freezingpoint.
