WARNING
The vehicle must never be driven with more than one "Temporary Spare" tiremounted.
Driving with a spare wheel may alterthe driving characteristics of the vehi-cle. Replace the spare wheel with anormal wheel as soon as possible.
The spare wheel is smaller than thenormal wheel, which affects the vehi-cle's ground clearance. Watch for highcurbs and do not wash the vehicle inan automatic car wash when a sparewheel is mounted.
Follow the manufacturer's recom-mended tire inflation pressure for thespare wheel.
On all-wheel drive vehicles, the driveon the rear axle can be disconnected.
If the spare wheel is mounted on thefront axle, snow chains must not beused.
The spare wheel must not be repaired.
CAUTION
The vehicle must not be driven with wheels of different dimensions or with a spare tireother than the one that came with the vehi-cle. The use of different size wheels canseriously damage your vehicle's transmis-sion.

Handling spare tires Follow these instructions regarding handling the spare wheel.

The spare wheel is stored in a bag and should be secured with two straps onto the floor ofthe trunk/cargo compartment when the vehi- cle is being driven 14
. The straps should be
strapped down crosswise over the wheel, attached to the load anchoring eyelets andpulled taut. Wheel changing tools are located under the cargo compartment floor.

Overview of the passenger compartment interior and storage spaces.
Front seats

Tunnel console
The tunnel console is located between the front seats.
Storage compartment with cover *. The

Electrical outlets
There are two 12 V electrical outlets and one 120 V electrical outlet * in the tunnel console,
and one 12 V electrical outlet * in the trunk/
cargo compartment. If a problem occurs with an electrical socket, contact a workshop - an authorized Volvoworkshop is recommended.
12 V outlets
12 V outlet in the tunnel console, front seat.
The 12 V outlets can be used for devices intended for this such as MP3 players, coolersand cellular phones.

Sun visors
In the ceiling in front of the driver's and front passenger's seats, there are sun visors thatcan be lowered and angled to the side asnecessary.
The illustration is generic – the design may vary.
The mirror lighting * comes on automatically
when the visor is lifted up. The mirror frame has a holder for e.g. cards or tickets.

Cargo compartment
The vehicle has a flexible cargo compartment that makes it possible to carry and securelarge objects.
The cargo compartment capacity can be con- siderably increased by folding down the back- rests in the second and third rows * of seats.
To make loading and unloading easier, the rear section of the vehicle can be raised and low- ered using the level control function *. Use the
load anchoring eyelets or grocery bag holders to help secure objects in place, and the retractable cargo compartment cover * to help
conceal objects in the cargo compartment. If the vehicle is equipped with a temporary spare tire, this is secured to the cargo com-partment floor under the cover. The towingeyelet and tire sealing system are locatedunder the cargo compartment floor.

Loading recommendations
There are a number of things that are impor- tant to consider when carrying loads in or onthe vehicle.
Load-carrying capacity is determined by the vehicle's curb weight. The total weight of allpassengers and any installed accessoriesreduces the vehicle's load-carrying capacity bythe corresponding amount.
WARNING
The vehicle's driving characteristics change depending on the weight and position ofthe load.
Loading the cargo compartment/trunkKeep the following in mind when loading:
Position objects so they are pressing against the rear seat backrests.
Heavy objects should be positioned as lowas possible. Avoid placing heavy objectson folded-down seat backrests.
Cover sharp corners with a soft cloth orsimilar to help prevent damage to theupholstery.
Use the load anchoring eyelets and ten-sioning straps or similar to secure allobjects.
WARNING
In a head-on collision at a speed of 50 km/h (30 mph), an unsecured objectweighing 20 kg (44 pounds) can reach aprojectile weight equivalent to 1000 kg(2200 pounds).
WARNING
If objects are loaded higher than the upper edge of the side windows, leave a 10 cm(4 in.) space between the objects and thewindow. Objects placed closer to thiscould impede the function of the inflatablecurtain concealed inside the headlining.
WARNING
Always secure the load. Otherwise, it may shift during heavy braking and injure peo-ple in the vehicle. Cover sharp edges and sharp corners with something soft. Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake when loading/unloading longobjects. Otherwise, it is possible for theload to reach the gear lever or gear selectorand move it to a drive position – whichcould cause the vehicle to begin rolling.
Extra cargo space
The rear seat backrests can be folded down to increase cargo space in the cargo compart- ment/trunk and simplify loading. If the rearseat backrests are folded down, make surethat no objects loaded into the vehicle preventthe WHIPS system for the front seats fromfunctioning correctly.
Raising/lowering the rear end of the
vehicle *
The rear end of the vehicle can be lowered orraised for easier loading into the cargo com-partment/trunk or to facilitate attaching a trailer*.
The controls for raising/lowering are located at the rear edge of the right side panel in thecargo compartment/trunk.

WARNING
In 7-seat models - never have a cargo com- partment cover mounted when there arepassengers in the rear seats. This couldlead to serious injury in the event of a colli-sion.
Loading mode
From the fully retracted position - grasp the handle and pull the cover up and overthe side panels in the cargo compartment.Pull to the end position and press theattaching pins at the end of the cover intothe grooves in the side panels of the vehi-cle. (If the cover is already fully open, seenext section.)
From the fully open position - grasp the handle and press the cover's attachingpins down into the grooves in the sidepanels and then release.
> Retract the cover until it stops in the
partially retracted position. If your hands are full:
In the fully open position, push the cover's handle slightly upward with e.g. yourelbow. >
The cover will retract until it stops in
the partially retracted position.
To fully open the cover from the partially retracted position:
1. Grasp the handle and pull the cover out as far as possible.
2. Let the cover retract slightly and press the handle slightly downward.
> The cover will be secured in the fullyopen position.
Retracting the cover
1. From the fully opened position:
Lift the cover's handle and pull it rearward to release the cover's attaching pins fromthe grooves. Let the cover retract. From the partially retracted position: Grasp the handle and pull the cover out of the groves to the fully open position. Liftthe handle and pull it rearward to releasethe cover's attaching pins from thegrooves. Let the cover retract.
2. Let the cover retract with its attaching pins above the side panels until it stops inthe fully retracted position.

Installing and removing the steel cargo grid*
The steel cargo grid prevents loads or pets in the cargo compartment from being thrownforward into the passenger compartmentduring hard braking.
For safety reasons, the steel grid must always be installed and secured correctly.
WARNING
Under no circumstances may a person be in the cargo compartment when the vehi-cle is moving. Heavy braking or a collisioncould lead to serious injury.
The steel grid consists of the grid itself and two separate mounting brackets. Each of the mounting brackets has a screw cover and twoplastic sleeves for the grid.
WARNING
The steel cargo grid may only be used in the rear position described here. The ceil-ing attachment points behind the frontseats are not intended to anchor the steelgrid.
WARNING
For safety reasons, the third-row seats

must be folded down when the steel cargo grid is mounted in the vehicle.
CAUTION
The steel cargo grid and the cargo com- partment cover cannot be mounted at thesame time.
Installation1. Fold down the rear seats and lift in the steel grid through one of the rear doors or the tailgate. The curved (convex) side ofthe grid should face toward the cargocompartment and the hooks on each sideof the grid should face upward. Themounting brackets and plastic sleeves arenot needed in this step. 2.
Press one of the grid's hooks into the larger hole in the ceiling attachment point(1). Grasp the grid near the hook and pull/push it into the smaller hole (2).
> The hook is now secured in the attach-
ment point.
3. Repeat step 2 above to secure the other hook in the attachment point on the oppo- site side.
WARNING
Make sure the cargo grid's hooks are securely attached in the ceiling attachmentpoints to help ensure the grid does notcome loose.
47-seat models only.

Attach the mounting bracket's hook through the cargo anchoring eyelet nearthe floor of the cargo compartment andinsert the threaded section of the bracketthrough the grid's lower attachment hole(1). Slide the plastic sleeve onto the threaded section of the mounting bracket with thesleeve's flange turned upward and press itdown through the hole. Screw the screwcover into place until its underside isapproximately 5 mm from the grid (2).
5. Repeat step 4 for the opposite side.
6. Center the grid and then tighten both mounting brackets, moving back and forth between them until the grid is securely inplace.
Removing the coverRemove the steel grid by performing theabove steps in reverse order. It can be a good idea to remove the mounting brackets before removing the plastic sleevesfrom the holes in the grid.

Installing and removing the cargo net
*
The cargo net helps prevent objects in the cargo compartment from entering the pas-senger compartment in the event of a suddenstop or hard braking.
The cargo net is attached at four points.
For safety reasons, the cargo net must always be mounted and secured according to the fol-lowing description. The net is made of strong nylon weave and can be attached in two different locations inthe vehicle:
Rear mounting - behind the second row ofseats.
Front mounting - behind the front seats.

Front mounting.
For front mounting: With the cargo net mounted in the front ceiling mounting points, hook the strapsinto the outer eyelets on the front seat railsbehind the seats. Attaching the net is eas-ier if the seat backrests are upright and theseats are moved slightly forward. Move the seat or backrest only until it touches the net. Moving it with too muchforce or applying too much pressure to thenet could lead to damage.
CAUTION
If a seat or backrest is pressed with too much force back against the cargo net, thenet and its ceiling brackets could be dam-aged.
5. Pull the straps until the cargo net is taut.
Removing the cargo netThe cargo net can be easily removed and folded up.
1. Loosen the cargo net by pressing the but-ton on the strap locks on each side and pulling to allow some slack.
2. Press in the catches and release both of the strap hooks.
3. Unhook the upper hooks and remove the net from the ceiling mounting points.
4. Press the red button on the rod so that it can be folded. Fold and roll up the net.Store the net in its case.
