Carburetor setting
9The role of fuel is to cool the engine, and in the
case of a 2-stroke engine, to lubricate the
engine in addition to power generation.
Accordingly, if a mixture of air and fuel is too
lean, abnormal combustion will occur, and
engine seizure may result. If the mixture is too
rich, spark plugs will get wet with oil, thus mak-
ing it impossible to bring the engine into full play
or if the worst comes to the worst, the engine
may stall.
9The richness of the air-fuel mixture required for
the engine will vary with atmospheric conditions
of the day and therefore, the settings of the car-
buretor must be properly suited to the atmos-
pheric conditions (air pressure, humidity and
temperature).
9Finally, the rider himself must make a test-run
and check his machine for conditions (pick-up
of engine speed, road surface conditions) and
for the discoloration of the spark plug(s). After
taking these into consideration, he must select
the best possible carburetor settings.
It is advisable to make a note of settings,
atmospheric conditions, road surface condition,
lap-time, etc. so that the memorandum can be
used as a reference useful for future.

The reason for the above tendency is that the
richness or leanness of a fuel mixture depends
on the density of the air (i.e. the concentration of
oxygen in it).

Vergasereinstellung
9Zusätzlich zu der Krafterzeugung
dient der Kraftstoff auch zur Kühlung
des Motors, und im Falle eines Zwei-
taktmotors, auch zur Schmierung
des Motors. Wenn daher das
Luft/Kraftstoffgemisch zu mager ist,
kommt es zu abnormaler Verbren-
nung, und kann ein Festfressen des
Motors auftreten. Bei einem zu fetten
Gemisch werden die Zündkerzen mit
Öl verschmutzt, so daß nicht die
maximale Motorleistung erhalten
werden kann, und im schlimmsten
Falle der Motor abstirbt.
9Der Fettgehalt des für den Motor
erforderlichen Luft/Kraftstoffgemi-
sches variiert mit den atmosphäri-
schen Bedingungen des jeweiligen
Tages, so daß die Einstellungen des
Vergasers in Abhängigkeit von den
atmosphärischen Bedingungen (Luft-
druck, Feuchtigkeit und Temperatur)
vorgenommen werden müssen.
9Der Fahrer selbst muß eine Probe-
fahrt ausführen und die Bedingungen
seiner Maschine (Erhöhung der Mot-
ordrehzahl, Straßenbedingungen)
überprüfen und die Verfärbung der
Zündkerze(n) kontrollieren. Unter
Beachtung dieser Punkte muß er die
bestmöglichen Vergasereinstellun-
gen auswählen.
Die Einstellungen, die atmosphäri-
schen Bedingungen, der Straßenzu-
stand, die Rundenzeit usw. sind
schriftlich festzuhalten, so daß diese
Informationen für Referenzzwecke in
der Zukunft verwendet werden kön-
nen.
Atmosphärische Bedingungn und
Vergasereinstellung
Der Grund für die obige Tendenz ist,
daß die Dichte der Luft (d.h. Sauer-
stoffkonzentration in der Luft) dafür
sorgt, daß das Kraftstoffgemisch fett
oder mager wird.

Le rôle du carburant consiste à
refroidir le moteur et dans le cas
d’un moteur à 2. temps. à lubrifier
le moteur en plus de la génération
d’énergie. Par conséquent, si le
mélange d’air et de carburant est
trop pauvre, une combustion anor-
male se produira et le moteur peut
se gripper. Si le mélange est trop
riche, les bougies seront aspergées
d’huile, ne permettant pas par
conséquent au moteur de tourner à
plein régime ou au pire, le moteur
peut caler.
9La richesse du mélange air-carbu-
rant fait que le moteur varie selon
les conditions atmosphériques du
jour et par conséquent les réglages
du carburateur doivent bien corres-
pondre aux conditions atmosphé-
riques (pression d’air, humidité et
température).
9Finalement, le pilote lui-même doit
faire un essai et vérifier les condi-
tions de sa machine (pouvoir
d’accélération du moteur, condi-
tions de la surface de la route) et la
décoloration de bougie(s). Prenant
ces facteurs en considération, il
sélectionnera les meilleurs réglages
de carburateur possibles.
Il est recommandé de prendre note
des réglages, des conditions atmo-
sphériques, de la surface de la route,
le temps au tour, etc., afin que ce
mémorandum puisse être utilisé
ultérieurement comme référence.
Conditions atmosphériques et régla-
ge de carburateur
Les variations indiquées ci-dessus sont
dues au fait que la richesse ou la pau-
vreté du mélange de carburant dépend
de la densité de l’air (par ex. la concen-
tration de l’oxygène).

9Il ruolo del carburante è di raffred-
dare il motore e, nel caso di un
motore a 2 tempi, di lubrificare il
motore oltre a sviluppare potenza.
Di conseguenza, se una miscela di
aria e carburante è troppo povera, si
verificherà una combustione anoma-
la e potrà risultarne un grippaggio
del motore. Se la miscela è troppo
ricca, le candele si bagneranno di
olio, rendendo così impossibile
azionare il motore a pieni giri oppu-
re, nel peggiore dei casi, può darsi
che il motore si arresti.
9La ricchezza della miscela aria-car-
burante richiesta per il motore
varierà in base alle condizioni atmo-
sferiche della giornata e pertanto le
registrazioni del carburatore devono
essere adeguate alle condizioni
atmosferiche (pressione dell’aria,
umidità e temperatura).
9Infine, il guidatore stesso deve fare
una corsa di prova e controllare le
condizioni del veicolo (ripresa del
numero di giri del motore, condizio-
ni del manto stradale) e lo scolori-
mento della/e candela/e. Dopo avere
preso in considerazione ciò, deve
scegliere le migliori registrazioni
possibili per il carburatore.
È consigliabile prendere nota delle
registrazioni, delle condizioni atmo-
sferiche, della condizione del manto
stradale, del tempo sul giro, ecc, in
modo da potere usare gli appunti
come riferimento utile per il futuro.

Il motivo della tendenza di cui sopra è
che la ricchezza o la povertà di una
miscela di carburante dipende dalla

Probefahrt
Nach dem Warmlaufen des Motors
mit Standard-Vergaser(n) und Zünd-
kerze(n), zwei oderdrei Runden des
Kurses fahren und auf glatten Betrieb
des Motors achten und die Verfärbung
der Zündkerze(n) überprüfen.

1/4 throttle can be set by turning the pilot air
screw 1.
Turning in the pilot air screw will enrich the mix-
ture at low speeds, and turning out it will lean out
the mixture.
