The Battery Reconnect Switch
The battery reconnect switch is
located in front wall of the boot.
Firmly press the battery reconnect
switch until it latches to reconnect
the battery before opening the doors
or attempting to start the vehicle.
Caution: Always reconnect the battery
before opening any door. The door
window seals will be damaged if the
door is opened when the battery is
disconnected.
When the battery disconnect function is in use, all vehicle electrical systems
(except ‘keep alive memory’) remain disabled until the battery reconnect
switch is pressed.
Recommissioning the Car after Battery Disconnection
When you wish to use the vehicle, disconnect the mains supply to the
battery conditioner and then disconnect the conditioner from the vehicle
socket.
Press the battery reconnect switch until it latches to power up the vehicles
electrical circuits.
Caution: Always reconnect the battery before opening any door. The door window
seals will be damaged if the door is opened when the battery is disconnected.
Start and run the vehicle as described in the 'Driving' section.

Electrical Start from Another Vehicle
If your DB AR1 will not start due to a discharged battery, it may be started
by connecting the battery from another vehicle to the discharged battery.
Before the vehicle is started in this way, ensure that the donor vehicle has
a 12 volt battery and negative (-), black earth terminal to ensure that the
correct battery polarity is maintained.
WARNING: If the voltage or earth of the donor vehicle is different or not known,
do not attempt starting in the way described.
1. Position the vehicles so that the connecting cable will reach between
the batteries. Ensure that the vehicles do not touch each other.
2. To lessen the risk of an electrical short circuit, remove rings, metal
watch bands and any other jewellery. Wear eye protection when
working near the battery. Turn off all electrical motors and ancillaries
in both vehicles. Switch off all lights except those needed to protect the
vehicles or illuminate the work area. Switch off the ignition and apply
the handbrake.
3. Lift out the boot floor panels to gain access to the battery.
4. Connect the red (+) cable between the red (+) positive terminal of the
two batteries.
5. Connect the black (-) cable between the black (-) negative terminals of
the two batteries.
6. Start the donor vehicle engine and run at about 1500 - 2000 rpm.
7. Start the engine. Allow the engine to run for some minutes until the flat
battery is partially charged. Switch off both vehicles.

1-F-37 8. Remove the black (-) negative cable from both batteries and then
remove the red (+) positive cable from both batteries.
9. Refit the boot floor panels and close the boot.
10. Restart the engine and take it for a long road run if possible to recharge
the battery.
11. If necessary, recharge the battery using an appropriate 'trickle' charger.

Fuse Boxes
Three fuse/relay boxes are fitted to DB AR1 containing the fuses to protect
electrical and electronic systems of the vehicle. The box locations are
indicated on the diagram above.
The forward left and right fuse boxes are located beneath a plate in the
passenger side footwell. The rear fuse box is located in the boot, close to the
battery.
WARNING: Do not add to or alter the electrical systems of DB AR1 unless fitting
Aston Martin approved options to the manufacturers instructions. Use of
unapproved components, incorrect dismantling, incorrect reassembly or incorrect
replacement of components may create electrical overloads and a fire risk.
WARNING: Do not attempt to repair a blown fuse. This could cause a fire hazard
or serious damage elsewhere in the electrical circuits.
WARNING: Do not install a fuse which exceeds the amperage for each location
listed on the following fuse charts.

Bulb and Fuse Replacement
A kit of replacement bulbs, fuses etc. is supplied. Any item used from the kit
should be replaced at the earliest opportunity so that the full kit is always
available.
On vehicles fitted with the space-saver spare wheel the kit is stored in the
wheel insert.
On vehicles without the spare wheel the kit is stored in the insert under the
boot floor covering. The kit contents are market dependant and typically
include:
12V, 5W (Festoon) C5W Number Plate Light
12V, 5W (capless) W5W Side Lights/Side Repeater Lights
12V, 55W H1 Headlight Main and Dip Beam
Note: From August 2002 dip beam bulbs 12V, 55W H1 Philips Blue Vision for all
countries except North America.
12V, 55W H3 Headlight/Fog light (not USA)
12V, 3W W3W Side Markers LH/RH, Front

On Board Headlight Aiming (where fitted)
The headlight assemblies (main and dipped beam lights) are factory set to
give correct forward illumination under average load conditions. Should
your headlight aiming require adjustment, it may be corrected as follows:
1. Ensure that the tyres are inflated to the specified pressures.
2. Fill the car with fuel.
3. Park the car on level ground.
NOTE: Any error in ground level will adversely influence the accuracy of the
vertical beam alignment check
4. Have an adult person sit in the drivers seat.
5. Load the boot with the normal items you carry.
6. Open the bonnet.
Horizontal Beam Alignment Check
1. Check the gauge labelled Horizontal Angle Gauge. The green line on the
collar must be aligned with the pointer at the side of the spirit level. If
adjustment is required, rotate the screw and collar until the green line
is aligned with the pointer.

Rear Lights - (Indicators, Stop/Rear)
The indicators and stop/rear lights are contained in two clusters, one either
side of the car. The replacement technique for all rear light bulbs is similar.
1. Remove the boot trim panel.
2. Remove two knurled nuts and withdraw the blub holder.
3. Push and rotate the blub a quarter of a turn anti-clockwise. Withdraw
from bulb holder.
NOTE: The stop/rear light bulb has two filaments and offset bayonet pins. Ensure
correct orientation when fitting.
4. Insert the new bulb. Push and rotate bulb a quarter of a turn clockwise.
5. Place the bulb holder back to the light cluster and secure with the two
knerled nuts. Install the boot trim.

Door Edge Lights
1. Taking care to protect the paint
work, use a screwdriver to lever the
light assembly from its location in
the lower door edge.
2. Remove the bulb from the light
assembly and fit a replacement bulb.
3. Refit the assembly to the door,
pushing firmly until it clips into place.
Central High Mounted Stop Lamp
The high mounted stop lamp is fitted in the boot lid. It is recommended that
your have your dealer change the high mounted stop lamp if necessary.
Electric Window Reset Procedure
If either the battery or the window controllers are disconnected, the window
controller will lose its memory of the window maximum up and down
positions. The window controller memory may be checked and reset as
follows:

Checks and Maintenance
Door hinges should be lubricated and door drain holes cleaned regularly
as follows:
• Door hinges should be lubricated with grease.
• Wipe away any excess lubricant to avoid contaminating clothing.
• Check the drain holes in the bottom face of each door periodically and
clear if necessary with a short length of wire.
Caution: Do not lubricate door or ignition locks. They are greased during manufacture
and should not need regular service.
Caution: Automatic car washes and power-operated mops are not recommended,
since prolonged use will cause fine scratches in the paint surface.
Vehicle Cleaning
Paintwork
Washing
For best results, do not wash the vehicle in strong sunlight. Allow the vehicle
to cool before washing. Do not use household soaps or detergents. Do not
direct hoses at full force around the door or boot seals.
When washing the vehicle use plenty of clean, cold or luke warm water.
Remove dust or mud from the paintwork by brushing in a gentle flow of
water from a hose.
