Applies to veh icles: with seat memory
Driver's seat memory
The seat adjustment settings for two drivers can be
stored using the memory buttons in the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat, the settings for the
steering column* and both exterior mirrors can be stored.
Storing and re calli ng setting s
Using the memory buttons 1 and 2, you can store and recall the
settings for two different drivers =>
page 89 , fig. 79.
T he current settings are also automatically stored on the remote
control key being used when the vehicle is locked. When the vehicle is
unlocked, the settings stored on the remote contro l key being used
a re automatically recalled. This function has to be activated in the
MMI
=> page 90, "Activat ing remote control key memory ".
T urning se at m em ory on and off
If the [ ON/OFF] switch is depressed , the seat memory is inoperative .
The word
OFF next to the [ ON/OFF] switch illuminates.
All the stored settings are retained. We recommend using the
[ ON/OFF ] switch and deact ivat ing the seat memory if the vehicle is

only going to be used temporarily by a driver whose settings are not
going to be stored .•

Storing and recalling a seat position
Before you can store or recall your seat position, the
(ON/OFF) button must be engaged (down) .
Storing settings
-Adjust the driver 's seat => page 86.
- Adjust the steering column*=> page 125.
Adjust both outside mirrors=> page 81. In the tilt -down
position, the passenger mirror can be adjusted to the
preferred position and saved in the seat memory.
- Press the
(SET) button and hold it down. At the same
time, press one of the memory buttons for at least one second.
- Release the bu ttons. The settings are now stored under
the corresponding memory button.
Rec alling settings
- Driver's door open -press the desired memory button.
- Driver's door closed -press the corresponding memory
button until the stored position is reached .
Successful storage is confirmed audib ly and by the light in the [ SET]
button illuminating.
When the vehicle is
loc ked , the current settings are stored and
assigned to the remote control key. But the settings stored on
memory buttons 1 and 2 are not deleted. They can be recalled at any

time. When the vehicle is unlocked , the settings stored on the
remote con trol key are res to red .
If your veh icle is d riven by other persons using yo ur remote cont rol
key, you should save your individ ua l seat position on o ne of the
me mory buttons. Yo u can rec all you r setting s again sim ply and
conveniently by press ing the co rresponding memory button . When
t he vehi cle i s loc ked , the se se ttings a re a utom atic a lly re-assig ned to
the remo te control key and s tored .
& WARNING
• For safety reasons , the seat setting can only be recalled when
the vehicle is stationary -otherwi se you risk having an accident .
• In an emergency , the recall operation can be stopped by
pressing the [
ON/OFF] button or by briefly pre ssing any given
memory button. •

Activating remote control key memory
To be able to re ca ll the store d set tings wi th t he rem ote
c ontr ol key, the func tio n has to be activat ed in th e MMI.

Rear seats
General information

All passengers on the rear seats must be seated in compliance with

& WARNING
• Occupants in the front and rear seat s must always be properly
restrained .
• Do not let anyone ride in the vehicle without the head
restraints provided. Head restraints help to reduce injuries .
• Loose items inside the passenger compartment, can fly
fo rward in a crash or sudden maneuver and injure occupants.
Always store articles in the luggage compartment and use the
fastening eyes, especially when the rear seatbacks ha ve been
folded down.

Adjusting seat (second row seating)

Removing ashtray insert
Press the fron t of the ope n lid downward in the direction
of the arrow=> fig. 10 4 -th e as htray insert pops out
slig htly.
- Lift the ashtray insert up and out .
Reinstalling ashtray insert
-Open t he lid on t he ashtray insert a nd press the insert i nto
t h e housing as far it ca n go .
& WARNING
Never put wa ste paper in the ashtray . Hot ashe s or other hot
obje ct s in the ashtray could set waste paper on fi re.•
Outlet
An elect rical accessory can be con nected to the 12-volt
power outlet.

- Re move the cover from the outlet=> page 106, fig. 105.
- Lift up the cover for the outle t => fig. 106.
- Plug in appliance to be used.
The outlet may be used for 12 -volt appliances with maximum
consumption of up to 10 0 wa tts, s uch as a flash light, small vacuum
cleaner, etc .
T here may be j ust one out let at the front of the ce nter console
depending on yo ur model. There are two additional 12-volt outlets in
the rear center console .
Before you purchase any accessor ies, always read and follow t he
information in=>
page 370, "Additional accessor ies and parts
replacement ".
& WARNING
The outlet plus any appliance s plugged into it rem ain functional
even if the ignition i s switched off or the ignition key is removed.

To reduce the risk of personal injury in an accident or sudden stop,
always keep the glove compartment closed while driving.

Should you not be able to open the glove compartment as described,
make sure the valet key function is not activated~

Cooling box in glove compartment
The cooling box works only when the air-conditioning is in
cooling mode.

- Open the glove compartment=> fig. 107.
- Turn the rotary switch © counter-clockwise to switch the
cooling on. The symbols on the rotary switch must be
displayed=> fig. 108 accordingly.
- Turn the rotary switch © clockwise to switch the cooling
off.
The cooling box works only in the cooling mode. If the climate control
is in the heating mode, we recommend switching the cooling box
off.•
Emergency unlocking of glove
compartment
The glove compartment can be unlocked in an emer­
gency.

- Remove the cover with the aid of a screwdriver => fig. 109.
- Now press the locking pin inward with the screwdriver .•

Climate control
Description
The air conditioner is fully automatic and is designed to
maintain a comfortable and uniform climate inside the
vehicle.
We recommend the following settings:
- Set the temperature to 72
°F (+22 °C).
- Press the
[AUTO] button.
With this setting, you attain maximum comfort in the least amount
of time. Change this setting , as desired , to meet your personal needs.
The climate controls are a combination of heating, ventilation and cooling systems, which automatically reduce humidity and cool the
air inside your vehicle .
The air temperature, air flow and air distribution are automatically regulated to achieve and maintain the desired passenger compart­
ment temperature as quickly as possible.
The system automatically compensates for changes in outside
temperature and for the intensity of the sunlight entering the
vehicle. We recommend you use the
Automatic mode ~ page 114
for year-round comfort .
Please note the following:
Turn on the air conditioner to reduce humidity in the vehicle. This also
prevents the windows from fogging up.
When the outside temperature is high and the air is very humid,
condensation from the evaporator may drip under the vehicle . This is
normal and does not indicate a leak.
Controls and equip ­
ment Safety first
If the outside temperature is
low, the fan normally only switches to a
higher speed once the engine coolant has warmed up sufficiently .
The air conditioner temporarily switches off when you drive off from
a standstill using full throttle to save engine power.
The compressor also switches off if the coolant temperature is too
high, so that the engine can be adequately cooled under extreme
loads.
Air pollutants filter
The air pollutants filter (a combined particle filter and activated char­
coal filter) reduces or prevents outside air pollution (dust, or pollen)
from entering the vehicle. The air is also filtered in air recirculation
mode.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the intervals specified in
your Warranty
& Maintenance booklet, so that the air conditioner can
properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air pollution, the filter
may need to be changed more frequently than specified in your Audi
Warranty
& Maintenance booklet. If in doubt, ask your authorized
Audi Service Advisor for advice .
Key coded settings
The air conditioner settings selected are automatically stored and
assigned to the key being used. When the vehicle is started, the air
conditioner automatically selects the settings assigned to that key.
This way every driver will maintain his/her own personal settings and
does not have to reset them manually.
If a different driver uses your key and changes the air conditioner
settings, the latest adjustments will erase and replace the settings
you have stored. _.,

A nearly constant temperature is maintained when the steer ing
wheel heating is switched on.
T he last sett ing se lected for the steer ing wheel heat ing (on or off) is
automatically saved when the veh icle is shut off and is assigned to the
remote key. •

Easy entry feature
The easy entry feature makes it easier to enter and e xit
the vehicle by automatically adjusting the steering
wheel.
Press the button®~ page 125, fig. 123 to turn the easy
entry feature on or off .
When the easy entry feature is turned on (button depressed), the
steering wheel moves up to the parked position when the ignition is
t urned off . After you enter the vehicle, the steer ing wheel moves to
the stored pos ition as soon as you t urn on the ign ition .

For the stored steering whee l position to be recalled, t he driver's seat
memory must be switched on ( ( ON/OFFI switch in depressed posi­
tion) .
If the easy e ntry feature i s sw itched off, the steer ing wheel mov es to
the stored pos ition as soon as you press the seat memory button. •
Ignition Lock and ignition switch

The engine can be st arted or turned off with the ign ition
key .

ign ition key is removed, the steer ing colum n lock is automat ically

Switching the ignition on /preheating (D
Tu rn the ignit ion key to this position and re lease i t. On veh icles wi th
a diesel engine *, the system can preheat in this position.
Starting the engine@
The engine starts with the key in this position. Major e lectrical loads
are tempo rar ily tur ned off .

& WARNING
• Never remove the key from the ignition lock while the vehicle
is moving. The steering wheel will lock , cau sing loss of control.
• If you ha ve to leave your vehicle, even for ju st a minute, alw ays
remove the ignition key and take it with you. This i s especially
important if you are going to leave children unattended in the
vehicle. The children could start the engine or use other vehicle c ontrols . Unsupervised us e of vehicle controls (for example, power
windows) can cause serious personal inju ries.

• If the ~ symbol in the display blinks, there is a malfunction in the
electronic stee ring column lock. Follow the instr uctions in
~ page 36, "Steering malfu nction i" .
• If the ~ symbol in the display blinks, there is a malfunction in the
electronic ignition lock . Follow the instr uctions in~

• T o prevent malf unctions in the ignition lock, remove any dirt or
deposits from t he key bit so that t hey do not ente r th e ignit ion lock. •

Ignition key safety Lock
The ignition key can only be r emoved when the selector
le ver is in the "P" (Park) position .
After turning off the ignition, the ignition key can only be removed
from the igni tion lock when t he se lector lever is in the "P" (Park) posi­
tion. A fter you have removed the key, the selector lever is locked and
cannot be move d.•

- Release the ignition key o nce the e ngin e s tarts. The
s ta rt er mus t not conti nue r unning .
A cold eng ine may sound loud after it has been s tarted . This is due to
the hydra ulic valves b uilding up o il pressure. Th is is norma l and is not
a need for concern .
If the engine does not start immediately, stop trying afte r 10 seconds
and then try to rest art the eng ine about 30 seco nds la te r.
Glow plug system*
Diesel engines are eq uipped with a glow p lug sys tem whose
preheating t ime is controlled by the coo lant and outs ide tempera­
tu re. Start t he engine
immedia tely a ft er the glow plug indicator ligh t
sw itches off.
T he g low pl ug indicator light w ill on ly ill umina te for approximately 1
second when the engine is warm o r the ou tside temperatur e is hig her
than 46 °F (8 °C). That means yo u can start the eng ine
immediately.
& WARNING
Never start or let the engine run in a confined or enclosed area.
Exhaust fumes from the engine contain carbon monoxide, a color ­
less and odorless gas. Carbon monoxide can be fatal if inhaled.

• Never leave the engine idling unattended. An unattended
vehicle w ith a running engine poses a danger of personal injury or
theft .

• Avoid high engine speeds, fast acce leration or heavy eng ine loads
w hil e the eng ine is st ill co ld. Th is could dam age t he e ng ine .
• T he engine ca nnot be sta rted by p ushi ng o r tow ing the veh icle.

T o avoid unnecessary engine wea r and to reduce exhaust emiss ions,
do not let your vehicle stand and w arm up . B e re ady to dr ive off i mme­
diately after sta rting yo ur vehicle. Maintain mode rate speed unt il the
eng ine i s co mpl ete ly w arm . R emembe r, the eng ine pe rfor ms best at
operat ing temperature. •
Stopping the engine
- Turn the ign it ion k ey to posit ion ®~ page 12 7, fig. 125.
& WARNING
• Never turn off the engine until the vehicle has come to a
complete stop.
• The brake booster and servotronic only work when the engine
is running . With the ignition turned off, you have to apply more
force when steering or braking. Since you cannot steer and stop no rmally , this can lead to accidents and serious injuries .
• The radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10 minutes even
after you have turned off the engine and removed the ignition key.
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the engine coolant heats .,,,

Do not stop the engine immediate ly after hard or extended driving .
Keep the engine running for approximately two minutes to prevent
excessive heat build -up. •

This button switches on the ignition and starts the
engine.

-Press the I ST ART] button once to the first stage to switch
on only the ignition.
Gasoline engine: Starting the engine
- Step on the brake.
- Move the selector lever to the P or N position:::::,.

- Press the I START ] button to the second stage to start the
engine.
Diesel engine : Starting the engine
- Step on the brake.
- Move the selector lever to the P or N position::::;,

- Press the [START] button down to the first level to begin
the preheating process. The glow p lug indicator light
~
illuminates when the glow plug system is active .
- When the indicator light switches off, press the
[START] button down to the sec ond level to start the
engine.
After a cold engine is started, there may be a brief period of increased
noise because oil pressure must first build up in the hydraulic valve
adjusters . This is normal and not a cause for concern.
If the engine does not start immed iately, stop trying after 10 seconds
and then try to restart the engine about 30 seconds later.
