If you slowly pass a vehicle that side assist has
detected ( the difference in speed betwee n the
vehicle and your vehicle is less than 9 mph or 15
km/h), the display in the exterior mirror turns on
as soon as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
The display will not turn o n if you quick ly pass a
vehicle that side assist has detected (the differ­
ence in speed between
the vehicle and your vehi­
cle
is greater than 9 mph or 15 km/h).
Functional limitations
The radar senso rs a re designed to detect the left
and right adjacent lanes when the road lanes are
the normal width. In some situations, the display
in the exter ior mirr or may turn on even though
there
is no vehicle located in the area that is criti­
cal
for a lane change. For example:
-
If the lanes are narrow or if your are driving on
the edge of your lane. If this is the case, the
system may have detected the vehicle in anoth­
er lane
that is not adjacent to your current lane.
-
If you are driving through a curve. Side assist
may react
to a vehicle that is one lane over
from the adjacent lane.
-
If side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or displaced guard rails).
-
In poor weather conditions . The side assist
functions are limited.
Do not cover the radar senso rs c::> fig. 77 w it h
stic kers, deposits, bicycle wheels or
other ob ­
jects,
because this will affect the function. For in­
formation on cleaning, see c::>poge 270.

-Always pay attention to traffic and to the
area around your vehicle. Side assist cannot
replace a
driver's attention. The driver alone
is always responsible for lane changes and
similar driving maneuvers.
-
In some situati ons, the system may not
function or its function may be limited. For
example:

-If vehicles are app roaching or being left
behind very quickly . The display may not
turn on in time.
-
In poor weather condit ions such as heavy
r ain, snow or heavy
mist.
-
On very wide lanes, in tight curves, or if
there is a r ise in the road surface. Vehicles

the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they are outside
of the sensor
range.
-
Audi side assist cannot detect all vehicles
under
all conditions, which can increase the
risk of acciden ts.
-Please note that side assist only disp lays ap­
proach ing vehicles
or veh icles in your blind
spot if your vehicle is traveling at l east
19 mph (30 km/h).
-In certain situations, th e system may not
work or its function may be limited. For ex­
ample:
- The displ
ay may not turn on at the right
time if vehicles are approaching or passing
very quickly.
-In poor weathe r condit ions, such as heavy
rain, snow or fog .
-
In very wide lanes, in tight cu rves or when
there are slopes in the roadway, vehicles
i n
the neighboring lanes may not be de­
tected because they a re outside
of the
senso r range.

Using Audi drive select incorrectly can lead to
collisions, other accidents and serious inju­
ries.
Description
Applies to: vehicles with Audi drive select
The vehicle setup in each mode depends on the
vehicle's features. However, the engine and
steering are always affected.
Engine and automatic transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and auto­
matic transmission respond more quickly or i n a
more balanced
manner to accelerator pedal
movements.
Adaptive dampers (Audi magnetic ride)*
The adaptive dampers use sensors to record in­
formation regarding steering movements, brak­
ing and acceleration operations by the driver,
road
surface, driving speed, and load. With dri ve
select, you can adjust the adaptive dampers to
sporty (dynamic), comfortable (comfort) or ba l­
anced (auto).
Steering
The power steering adapts. Indirect steering that
moves easily as in comfort mode is especially
suited to long drives on a highway. The dynamic
mode provides sporty, direct steering.
Cruise control system*
The acceleration performance is especially fuel­
efficient in efficiency* mode.
Engine sound*
The engine sound is adapted to the applied mode
and can be subtle to sporty.
@ Tips
In some models, the maximum vehicle speed
can only be reached in the auto and dynamic
modes.

You can select between efficiency*, comfort, au­
to, dynamic and individual.

.. Select the desired setting by moving the cursor
(red frame).
You can change the driving mode when the vehi­
cle is stationary or while driving. If traffic per­
mits, after changing modes, briefly take your
foot off the accelerator pedal so that the recently
selected mode is also activated for the engine.
Comfort -results in a comfort-oriented vehicle
calibration
Auto -provides an overall comfortable yet dy­
namic driving feel and is suited for everyday use.
Dynamic -gives the driver a sporty driving feel
and is suited to a sporty driving style.

General information

Depending on your vehicle's equipment, various
parking aids will
help you when parking and ma­
neuvering.
The r
ear pa rk ing syst em is an audible parking aid
that warns you of obstacles behind the vehicle
9page82.
The parking syste m plus assists you when park­
ing by audibly and visually indicating
objects de­
tected in front of and behind the vehicle

The rearv iew cam era shows the area behind the
vehicle in the Infotainment d isplay. The lines in
the rearview camera image help you to park or
maneuver~ page 84. The parking system plus
functions are also available~ page 83.
A WARNING

-Always look for traffic and check the area
around your vehicle by looking at it directly
as well. The parking system cannot replace
the driver's attention. The driver is always
responsible when entering or leaving a park­
ing
space and during similar maneuvers.
-
Please note that some surfaces, such as
clothing,
are not detected by the system.
-Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
which people and objects cannot be detect­
ed. Be especia lly cautious of small children
and animals.
- The
sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the radiator grille, bumper,
wheel housing and the underbody. The park­
ing
system may become impaired as a re­
sult. Have an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility check their
function.
- Make
sure the sensors are not obstructed by
stickers,
deposits or other materials. If they
are, the sensor function could be impaired.
For
additional information on cleaning, re­
fer to ~page 2 70.

-Some objects are not detected or displayed
by
the system under certain circumstances:
- Objects
such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, vertical poles or fences
- Objects above
the sensors such as wall ex­
tensions
-Objects with specific surfaces or struc­
tures such as chain link fences or powder
snow
-If you continue driving closer to a low-lying
object, it may
disappear from the sensor
range. Note that you will no longer be
warned about this obstacle.
- Keep enough distance from the curb to
avoid damage to the rims.

-The system may provide a warning even
though there are no obstacles in the cover­
age area in some situations, such as:
-
certain road surfaces or for long grass.
-external ultrasonic sources e.g. from
cleaning vehicles.
- heavy rain, snow,
or thick vehicle exhaust.
-We recommend that you practice parking in
a traffic-free location or parking lot to be­
come familiar with the system. When doing
this,
there should be good light and weath­
er conditions.
-
You can change the volume of the signals.
-
What appears in the display is slightly de-
layed.
- The
sensors must be kept clean and free of
snow and ice for the park assist to operate.
Rear parking system
Description
Applies to: vehicles with rear parking assist
The rear parking system is an audible parking
aid.
Description
There is a sensor in the rear bumper cover. If
these detect an obstacle, audible signals warn
you.

Electronic stabilization
control (ESC)
· Description
The Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) reinfor­
ces driver safety. It reduces the risk of slipping
and improves driving stability.
ESC detects criti­
cal situations such
as the vehicle oversteering
and understeering or the wheels are spinning.
The vehicle
is stabilized by applying the brakes or
reducing engine torque. Once the ESC is activat­
ed,
the indicator light DJ blinks in the instru­
ment cluster.
The following systems are integrated in the ESC:
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
ABS prevents the wheels from locking when brak­
ing. The vehicle
can still be steered even during
hard braking. Apply steady pressure
to the brake
pedal.
Do not pump the pedal. A pulsing in the
brake pedal indicates that the system is acting to
stabilize the vehicle .
Brake assist system
The brake assist system can decrease braking dis­
tance.
It increases braking power when the driver
presses
the brake pedal quickly in emergency sit­
uations .
You must press and hold the brake pedal
until the dangerous situation is over.
Anti-slip regulation (ASR)
ASR reduces engine power when the drive wheels
begin spinning and adapts
the force to the road
conditions. This makes
it easie r to start, acceler­
ate and drive up inclines.
Electron ic differential lock (EDL)
EDL applies the brakes to a wheel that starts
spinning and transfers
the drive power to the
other driving wheels. This function is not availa­
ble
at higher speeds.
In extreme cases, EDL automatically switches off
to keep the brake on the braked wheel from over­
heating . The vehicle
is still working correctly. EDL
Intelligent Technology
will switch on again automatically when condi­
tions have returned
to normal.
Steering recommendation
The ESC helps to stabilize the vehicle by changing
the steering torque.
Selective wheel torque control
Selective wheel torque control is used when driv­
ing on curves. The
front wheel on the inside of
the curve or both wheels on the inside of the
curve are braked selectively as needed. This al­
lows more preci
se driving in curves . The applica­
ble system may
not activate when driving in wet
or snowy condit ions.
Automatic post-collision braking system
The "Automatic post-collision braking system"
can help to reduce the risk of sliding and of other
collisions after an accident. If the airbag control
module detects a collision above a certain vehicle
speed,
the vehicle is braked by the ESC.
The vehicle does not brake automatically if:
-the driver presses the accelerator pedal, or
-the braking force generated by the pressed
brake pedal
is greater than the braking force
that would be initiated by the system, or
-the ESC, the brake system or the vehicle electri­
cal system are not functioning.
A WARNING ,..:-
-The ESC and its integrated systems cannot
overcome
the limits posed by natura l physi­
cal laws. This is especially important on slip­
pery o r wet roads. If the systems begin act ­
ing
to stabilize your vehicle, you should im­
mediately alter your speed to match the
road and traffic conditions. Do not let the
increased safety provided tempt you into
taking risks. This could increase your risk of
a collision.
- Please note
the risk of a collision increases
when driving fast, especially through curves
and on slippery
or wet roads, and when driv-
ing
too close to objects ahead. The ESC and .,..

its integrated systems cannot always pre­
vent collisions -there is still a risk of acci­
dents!
-Press the accelerator pedal carefully when
accelerating on even, slippery surfaces such
as ice and snow. The drive wheels can spin
even when these control systems are instal-

increase the risk of a collision.
@ Tips
-ABS and ASR only function correctly when
all four wheels are equipped with identical
tires. Different tire sizes can lead to a reduc­
tion in engine power.
-You may hear noises when the systems de­
scribed are working.

swerve, especially on slick or slippery road

-When the cruise control system is switched

it impossible to
switch the ESC/ ASR off or to switch sport
mode on.
Brakes
New brake pads
New brake pads do not achieve their full braking
effect during the first 250 mi (400 km) . They
must be "broken in" first. However, you can com­
pensate
for the slightly reduced braking force by
pressing
firmly on the brake pedal. Avoid heavy
braking during the break-in period.
Wear
Brake pad wear depends largely on the way the
vehicle is driven and on operating conditions.
This is especially true
if you are driving frequently
in
the city and on curves or with a sporty driving
style.
Operating noise
Noises may occur when braking depending on the
speed, braking force and outside conditions such
as temperature and humidity.
Effect of water and road salt
In certain situations, for example after driving
through water, in heavy
rain, after overnight con­
densation
or after washing your car, the braking
effect can be reduced by moisture or ice on the
brake rotors and brake pads. The brakes
must be
"dried" first with a few careful brake applica­
tions.
At higher speeds and with the windshield wipers
turned
on, the brake pads press against the brake
rotors
for a short amount of time. This action
which is
not felt by the driver happens at regular
Intelligent Technology
intervals and facilitates a better reaction time for
the brakes in wet weather.
T
he braking effect can also be reduced if you are
driving on salted roads and you do
not apply the
brakes for Long periods of time. The Layer of salt
on the brake rotors and pads must be worn off
first when the brakes are applied.
Corrosion
Leaving the vehicle parked for Long periods of
time, Low mileage and avoiding heavy braking
can contribute
to corrosion on the brake rotors
and
dirty brake pads.
If you usually avoid heavy braking or ifthere is
corrosion present, occasiona l heavy braking
at
high speeds is recommended to clean the brake
rotors and
pads¢.&..
Brake system malfunction
if you notice that the brake pedal travel has sud­
denly gotten Larger, then a brake circuit may have
failed. Drive
to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to have
the problem corrected. On the way there, drive
with reduced speed and keep in mind that a Long
braking distance and increased pressure on the
brake pedal will be necessary.
Low brake fluid level
When the brake fluid Level is Low, malfunctions in
the brake system may occur. The brake fluid Level
is electronically monitored.
Brake booster
The brake booster amplifies the pressure you ap­
ply to the brake pedal. It only works when the en­
gine is running.
A WARNING
-New brake pads do not achieve their full
braking effect during the first 250 mi

can compensate for the
slightly reduced braking force by pressing
firmly on the brake pedal. Avoid heavy brak-

Automatic mode (normal operation)
-Automatic extension: the rear spoiler will auto­
matically extend when speeds exceed approxi­
mately 75 mph (120 km/h)
-Automatic retraction: the rear spoiler will auto­
matically retract when speeds decrease to un­
der approximately 50 mph (80 km/h).
Manual mode
-Extending manually: briefly tap the~ fig. 89
button to fully extend the rear spoiler.
- Retracting manually:
when driving at speeds
below approximately 10 mph (20 km/h), press
and hold the button to retract the rear spoiler.
When at speeds between 10 mph (20 km/h)
and 75 mph (120 km/h), the rear spoiler will
completely retract when you tap the button.
Indicator lights
Ii) I. Rear spoiler: malfunction!
The
rear spoiler may not have extended due to a
malfunction.
This could change the veh icle's driv­
ing characteristics
at high speeds. Do not drive
faster than 85 mph (140 km/h). Drive to an au ­
thorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service
Facility
immediately to have the malfunction cor­
rected. The color
of the indicator light depends
on the vehicle speed.
..&. WARNING
-
Driving at higher speeds without the rear
spoiler deployed can impair handling charac­
teristics, making
the vehicle harder to con­
trol.
- Always
make sure that the spoiler is de­
ployed when driving at
speeds ove r 85 mph
(140 km/h). If the rear spoiler warning/indi­
cator light in the instrument cluster comes
on, the rear spoiler may not have deployed.
- Never drive
at speeds higher than 85 mph
(140 km/h) ifthe spoiler is not deployed.
Have
the spoiler inspected as soon as possi ­
ble by an
authorized Audi dealer or qualified
workshop.
- Always obey
speed limits and other traffic
laws.

Improper operation of the rear spoiler can
cause crushing injuries.
-Always make sure that nobody, especially
children, is
in the way when the rear spoiler
is deployed or retracted.
«J:) Note
-Never push on the vehicle on the rear spoil­
er. This could
cause damage.
- To
prevent damage to the rear spoiler do
not lean or place anything on it.
-
-Only operate the rear spoiler manually when
the luggage compartment lid is close and
the rear spoiler moving parts are not
blocked. Otherwise, damage could occur.
(D Tips
Clean the rear spoiler compartment every 2 to
3 months. To function correctly, the rear
spoiler must be free of ice, snow and leaves.
Energy management
The starting ability is optimized
The energy management system manages the
electrical energy distribution
and optimizes the
availability
of electrical energy for starting the
engine.
When a vehicle with a conventiona l energy sys­
tem is not driven for a long time, the battery is
drained by equipment (for example the immobil­
izer). In
certain circumstances, there could may
not be enough energy to start the engine.
Your vehicle
is equipped with an intelligent ener­
gy
management system for distributing electrici­
ty. T his sign ificant
ly improves the starting ability
and increases the battery life.
The
energy management system Is made up of
battery diagnosis, Idling current management
and dynamic energy management.
Battery diagnosis
The battery diagnosis determines the battery
charge level. The sensors determine the battery Ill>

For the system to understand you:
Speak clearly and distinc tly at a normal vol ume.
Speak louder when driving faster.
E
mphasiz e the words in the commands evenly
and do not leave long pauses.
Do not speak a command when the voice recogni ·
tion system is making an announcement.
Close the doors, the windows and the sunroof* to
reduce background noise. Make sure that passen­
gers are not speaking when you are giving a voice
command.
Only use the system from the driver's seat be­
cause the hands free microphone is directed to·
ward that seat.
Additional settings
Additional settings such as individual speech
tra ining to your voice, Command display or v ol­
ume of spoken prompts can be adjusted under
IMENUI >Settings> left control button> MMI
settings > Speech dialog system .

- Direct your full attention to driv ing . As the
driver, you have complete responsibility for
safety in traffic. O nly use the functions in
such a way th
at yo u always maintain com­
plete control over your vehicle in all traffic
situations.
-
Do not use the voice recognition system in
emergencies beca use your voice may change
in stressful situations. It may take longer to
dial the number or the system may not be
able to dia l it at all. Dial th e emergency
number manually.
@Tips
- The dia log pauses when ther e is an incom­
ing phone call and will continue if you ig­
nore the call. The dialog ends if you answer
the call.
- Navigation messages and traffic announce·
ments* are not made during a dialog.
-
You can select an item in the list using ei­
ther the voice recognition system or the
control knob.

Requirement:
The ignition and the MMI m use be switched on,
there must be no active phone calls and the park­
ing system and Audi speech dia log system must
not be active .
A cell
phone must be connected to the MMI
through the Handsfree profile¢ page 110.
The cell phone bei ng connected must have voice
con trol that can be controlled externally.
~Switching on : hold down the 12!:1 button on the
multifunction steering wheel* and say the de­
sired command after the external speech d ia log
begi ns.
~Resuming dialog : if necessary, press the l"l•I
button and say a new command. Or : select and
confirm Resum e speech dialog system on the
MMI control panel.
~Restarting dialog: the system remains ready to
use for a short time after ending the d ialog.

switch the ringtone on your
MMI on or off. The

-Severa l cell phones can be paired to the
MMI, but only one cell phone can be actively
connected.
