assembling

starter

oil

bearing
bushes
and

pinion

ALTERNATOR

The
alternator
is
driven

by
the
fan
belt
and
has
an
advant

age
over
a

dynamo
in
that
it

provides
current
at

low

engine

speeds
thereby
avoiding
battery
drain
Maintenance
is
not

normally
required
but
the
tension
of
the
fan
belt
should
be

checked
and

adjusted
if

necessary
as

described
in
the

section

COOLING
SYSTEM
Care
must
be
taken
not
to

overtighten

the
fan
belt
or

the
alternator

bearings
will
be
overloaded

The
alternator

output
can
be
checked
with
the
alternator

in

the
vehicle

by
carrying
out
the

following
test
Ensure
that
the

battery
is

fully
charged
Withdraw
the
connectors
from
the

alternator

and
N
terminals
and
connect
a

jumper
lead
between

the
F
and
A
terminals

voltmeter
