How Ford Makes Servicing Your Vehicle
Easy
*
[SV01400(ALL)01/95]
Ford has two goals for servicing your vehicle.
*
[SV01500(ALL)01/95]1.
When we can, we design parts that do not need to be
serviced.
*
[SV01600(ALL)01/95]2.
We want to make servicing your vehicle as easy as possible.
To help you:
*
[SV01700(ALL)01/93]
n
We highlight do-it-yourself items in yellow in your engine
compartment so that you can find them easily.
*
[SV01800(ALL)01/95]
n
When possible, we design parts Ð such as the headlamp
bulbs Ð that can be replaced without tools.
[SV01900(ALL)03/94]
n
We give you aMaintenance Schedule and Recordbooklet that
makes tracking routine service for your vehicle easy.
*
[SV02000(ALL)01/95]
This chapter tells you about the basic parts that you need to

loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught in moving

Filling Your Fuel Tank With Fuel
[SV05750(ALL)11/93]1.
Open the fuel door (located on the driver's side of the
vehicle).
[SV05800(ALL)11/93]2.
Unscrew the fuel cap by exerting pressure on the plastic cap
and rotating the fuel cap counterclockwise.
[SV05900(ALL)11/93]3.
Turn the fuel cap 3/4 of a turn until a hissing sound is
heard. Wait until the hissing sound stops and then continue
rotating counterclockwise to remove the fuel cap.
[SV06000(ALL)11/93]4.
Follow the fuel cap removal instructions and use caution to
minimize the possibility of fuel spraying when you unscrew
the cap.
*
[SV06050(ALL)05/95]
RWARNING
If the fuel cap is venting vapor or if you hear a hissing
sound, wait until it stops before completely removing the
cap.
[SV06060(ALL)04/95]
RWARNING
Turn the fuel cap 3/4 of a turn to relieve any pressure
and vacuum in the fuel tank. The cap will start
unthreading after 3/4 of a turn.

To replace and secure the fuel cap, place it in position and
rotate it clockwise until it clicks (ratchets). The ratcheting
mechanism allows the fuel cap to be sealed without
overtightening.
[SV06290(ALL)05/95]
If you lose the fuel cap, replace it with an authorized Motorcraft
or equivalent part.
%*
[SV06300(ALL)05/95]
RWARNING
If you do not use the proper fuel cap, the pressure in the
fuel tank can damage the fuel system or cause it to work
improperly in a collision.
*
[SV06600(ALL)01/95]
NOTE: If you replace your fuel cap with an aftermarket fuel
filler cap, the customer warranty may be void for any
damage to the fuel tank and/or fuel system.

[SV06700(ALL)05/95]
A venting fuel tank is not an abnormal condition. It may be
caused by:
*
[SV06800(ALL)05/95]
n
too volatile a fuel for the weather conditions. Service stations
sometimes sell winter grade fuel in the summer.
*
[SV06900(ALL)01/93]
n
pulling a heavy load on hot days, or at high altitudes.
*
[SV07000(ALL)05/95]
n
extended periods of idling with the engine RPM increased
above the normal idle range.
*
[SV07100(ALL)05/95]
n
parking the vehicle in full sunlight for extended periods on
extremely hot days.

Choosing the Right Fuel
*
[SV07300(ALL)05/95]
Use only UNLEADED FUEL in your vehicle. Using leaded fuel
is prohibited by federal law. Any vehicle damage may not be
covered by your warranty.
