Detectable Lines and Non-Detectable Lines
In some wiring diagrams, two kinds of lines, representing wires, with different weight are used.
A line with regular weight (wider line) represents a “detectable
line for DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)”. A “detectable line for
DTC” is a circuit in which ECM can detect its malfunctions with
the on board diagnostic system.
A line with less weight (thinner line) represents a “non-detect-
able line for DTC”. A “non-detectable line for DTC” is a circuit in
which ECM cannot detect its malfunctions with the on board
diagnostic system.

HEADLAMP AUTO AIMING
Headlamp auto aiming control automatically corrects vertical deviation of light axis that is brought by the
change of vehicle height with changing number of passenger and laden weight, and relieves dazzle to oncom-
ing vehicles.
AFS control unit determines the current vehicle conditions by each received signals, and sends commands to
the low beam headlamps to auto aiming. With the headlamps (HIGH/LOW) illuminated and engine running,
the low beam headlamps are operative by AFS control unit commands.
The height sensor is located on the left side of the rear suspension member and detects rear vehicle height
change by sensing the displacement of the rear suspension arm. And transmits a height sensor signal to the
AFS control unit.
With reference to the rear vehicle height under the empty condition, light axis of low beam with low rear vehi-
cle height is relatively higher than that with the empty condition. AFS control unit switches drive signal corrects
height of low beam axis to maintain height of light axis with empty condition.
Light axis of low beam with high rear vehicle height is relatively lower than that with empty condition. Light axis
of low beam with empty condition is set as upper limit of headlamp auto aiming control operation. Control to
correct deviation is not performed when light axis of low beam gets relatively higher than that with empty con-
dition. Timing of control is switched in accordance with driving conditions.
Headlamp auto aiming operation
*1: Included high beam illuminated
*2: Control timing of drive signal is switched by vehicle speed and accelerating/decelerating vehicle.
*3: Control is performed without regard to the condition of AFS switch. Headlamp auto aiming control function cannot be cancelled.

through 10A fuse [No.12, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to AFS control unit terminal 1

to AFS control unit terminal 25
through grounds M16 and M70,
to front combination lamp LH and RH terminal 11
through grounds E22 and E43.

Regulator Valve Clearance
(Clearance) = (Regulator valve hole diameter) – (Regulator valve
outer diameter)
If the calculated value is out of the standard, replace oil pump
assembly.
CAUTION:
Coat regulator valve with engine oil.
Make sure that it falls smoothly into valve hole by its own
weight.
ASSEMBLY
Note the following, and assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
Install oil pump inner rotor with the groove faced to oil pump
cover side.Standard : 0.040 - 0.097 mm (0.0016 - 0.0038 in)

OIL PUMP BODY INNER DIAMETER
–Measure the inner diameter of oil pump body with inside
micrometer. (Position 6)
OIL PUMP INNER DIAMETER TO OIL PUMP BODY CLEARANCE
–(Clearance) = (Oil pump body inner diameter) – (Oil pump inner rotor outer diameter)
If the measured/calculated values are out of the standard, replace oil pump assembly.
Regulator Valve Clearance
(Clearance) = D1 (Valve hole diameter) – D2 (Regulator valve outer
diameter of valve)
If the calculated value is out of the standard, replace oil pump
assembly.
CAUTION:
Coat regulator valve with engine oil.
Make sure that it falls smoothly into regulator valve hole by
its own weight.
ASSEMBLY
Note the following, and assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
Install oil pump inner rotor and oil pump outer rotor with the
punched marks on the oil pump cover side.

REMOVAL
1. Remove inner and outer balance weights from the road wheel.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to scratch the road wheel during removal.
2. Using releasing agent, remove double-faced adhesive tape from the road wheel.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to scratch the road wheel during removal.
After removing double-faced adhesive tape, wipe clean traces of releasing agent from the road
wheel.
WHEEL BALANCE ADJUSTMENT
If a tire balance machine has adhesion balance weight mode settings and drive-in weight mode setting,
select and adjust a drive-in weight mode suitable for road wheels.
1. Set road wheel on tire balance machine using the center hole as a guide. Start the tire balance machine.
2. When inner and outer unbalance values are shown on the tire balance machine indicator, multiply outer
unbalance value by 5/3 to determine balance weight that should be used. Select the outer balance weight
with a value closest to the calculated value above and install it to the designated outer position of, or at the
designated angle in relation to the road wheel.
CAUTION:
Do not install the inner balance weight before installing the outer balance weight.Oil grade and Viscosity:
Refer to MA-12, "
RECOMMENDED FLUIDS
AND LUBRICANTS" .

Before installing the balance weight, be sure to clean the
mating surface of the road wheel.
Indicated unbalance value × 5/3 = balance weight to be installed
Calculation example:
23 g (0.81 oz) × 5/3 = 38.33 g (1.35 oz) 40 g (1.41 oz) bal-
ance weight (closer to calculated balance weight value)
Note that balance weight value must be closer to the calculated
balance weight value.
Example:
37.4 35 g (1.23 oz)
37.5 40 g (1.41 oz)
a. Install balance weight in the position shown in the figure.
b. When installing balance weight to road wheels, set it into the
grooved area on the inner wall of the road wheel as shown in the
figure so that the balance weight center is aligned with the tire
balance machine indication position (angle).
CAUTION:
Always use genuine NISSAN adhesion balance weights.
Balance weights are unreusable; always replace with new
ones.
Do not install more than three sheets of balance weight.
c. If calculated balance weight value exceeds 50 g (1.76 oz), install
two balance weight sheets in line with each other as shown in
the figure.
CAUTION:
Do not install one balance weight sheet on top of another.
3. Start tire balance machine again.
4. Install drive-in balance weight on inner side of road wheel in the
tire balance machine indication position (angle).
CAUTION:
Do not install more than two balance weights.
5. Start tire balance machine. Make sure that inner and outer resid-
ual unbalance values are 7 g (0.25 oz) each or below.
If either residual unbalance value exceeds 7 g (0.25 oz), repeat installation procedures.

Check the following items with the vehicle stopped
Is air pressure and size of tires proper?
Is the specified part used for the steering wheel?
Is control unit a genuine part?
Are there any fluid leakage from steering gear assembly, power steering oil pump, and hydraulic pipes,
etc? Refer to PS-8, "
Checking Fluid Leakage" .
Is the fluid level proper? Refer to PS-8, "Checking Fluid Level" .
Is the wheel alignment adjusted properly? Refer to FSU-6, "Wheel Alignment Inspection" (2WD), FSU-24,
"Wheel Alignment Inspection" (AWD).
Are there any damage or modification to suspension or body resulting in increased weight or altered
ground clearance?
Check each link installation condition of suspension and axle.
Check each connector connection condition.
Check the following items while driving the vehicle
Check conditions when the malfunction occurred (5W 1H).
Is the engine condition normal?

POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT TERMINAL LOOSENESS AND BATTERY
Check battery terminals for looseness on both positive and negative ones and ground connection. Also make
sure that battery voltage does not drop.
Inspection: Power Steering Control Unit Power Supply Circuit and GroundNGS000E3
1. CHECK POWER STEERING CONTROL UNIT CONNECTOR
Turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect power steering control unit harness connector, and check terminal for
deformation, disconnection, looseness, etc.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 2.
NG >> Connector terminal connection is loose, damaged, open, or shorted. Repair or replace the termi-
nal.
2. CHECK POWER STEERING CONTROL UNIT GROUND CIRCUIT
Disconnect power steering control unit harness connector M8, and
then check continuity between power steering control unit harness
connector M8 and ground.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Ground circuit open or shorted. Repair or replace any
inoperative parts. Terminal 2 – Ground : Continuity exist.
