FUEL PUMP
DescriptionINFOID:0000000003771715
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
*: ECM determines the start signal status by the signals of engine speed and battery voltage.
The ECM activates the fuel pump for several seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON to improve engine
startability. If the ECM receives a engine speed signal
from the camshaft position sensor (PHASE), it knows
that the engine is rotating, and causes the pump to operate. If the engine speed signal is not received when
the ignition switch is ON, the engine stalls. The EC M stops pump operation and prevents battery discharging,
thereby improving safety. The ECM does not directly dr ive the fuel pump. It controls the ON/OFF fuel pump
relay, which in turn controls the fuel pump.
COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
A turbine type design fuel pump is used in the fuel tank.

ON BOARD REFUELING VAPOR RECOVERY (ORVR)
System DescriptionINFOID:0000000003771724
From the beginning of refueling, the air and vapor insi
de the fuel tank go through refueling EVAP vapor cut
valve and EVAP/ORVR line to the EVAP canister. The v apor is absorbed by the EVAP canister and the air is
released to the atmosphere.
When the refueling has reached the full level of the fuel tank, the refueling EVAP vapor cut valve is closed and
refueling is stopped because of auto shut-off. The vapor which was absorbed by the EVAP canister is purged
during driving.
WARNING:
When conducting inspectio ns below, be sure to observe the following:
Put a “CAUTION: FLAMMABLE” sign in workshop.
Do not smoke while servicing fuel system. Keep open flames and sparks away from work area.
Be sure to furnish the workshop with a CO
2 fire extinguisher.
CAUTION:
Before removing fuel line parts, carry out the following procedures:
- Put drained fuel in an explosion-proof containe r and put lid on securely.
- Release fuel pressure from fuel line. Refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure Check"
.
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
Always replace O-ring when the fu el gauge retainer is removed.
Do not kink or twist hose and tube when they are installed.
Do not tighten hose and clamps excessively to avoid damaging hoses.
After installation, run engine a nd check for fuel leaks at connection.
Do not attempt to top off the fuel tank after the fuel pump nozzle shuts off automatically.
Continued refueling may cause fuel overflow, r esulting in fuel spray and possibly a fire.

REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SENSOR
Component DescriptionINFOID:0000000003771729
The refrigerant pressure sensor is
installed at the condenser of the
air conditioner system. The sensor uses an electrostatic volume
pressure transducer to convert refrigerant pressure to voltage. The
voltage signal is sent to ECM, and ECM controls cooling fan system.

CONSULT-lll Reference Valu
e in Data Monitor ModeINFOID:0000000003771731
Remarks:
z Specification data are reference values.
z Specification data are output/input values which are detected or supplied by the ECM at the connector.
* Specification data may not be directly relat ed to their components signals/values/operations.
i.e. Adjust ignition timing with a timi ng light before monitoring IGN TIMING, because the monitor may show the specification data in spite of the
ignition timing not being adjusted to the s pecification data. This IGN TIMING monitors the data calculated by the ECM according to the signals
input from the camshaft position sensor an d other ignition timing related sensors.
