•DISP: Switch the display on or off. Youcan also touch the screen to switch thedisplay back on.
•Temperature, fan and climate controlbuttons: Control the temperature, fanspeed or settings of the climate controlsystem. See Climate Control (page 136).
911 Assist
WARNING: Unless the 911 Assistsetting is set on before a crash, the systemwill not dial for help which could delayresponse time, potentially increasing the riskof serious injury or death after a crash.
WARNING: Do not wait for 911 Assistto make an emergency call if you can do ityourself. Dial emergency servicesimmediately to avoid delayed response timewhich could increase the risk of serious injuryor death after a crash. If you do not hear 911Assist within five seconds of the crash, thesystem or phone may be damaged ornon-functional.
WARNING: Always place your phonein a secure location in your vehicle so it doesnot become a projectile or get damaged ina crash. Failure to do so may cause seriousinjury to someone or damage the phonewhich could prevent 911 Assist from workingproperly.
Note:The SYNC 911 Assist feature must beset on before the incident.
Note:The SYNC 911 Assist feature onlyoperates in the U.S., Canada or in a territoryin which 911 is the emergency number.
Note:Before setting this feature on, makesure that you read the 911 Assist PrivacyNotice later in this section for importantinformation.
Note:If any user sets 911 Assist to on or off,that setting applies for all paired phones. If911 Assist is switched off and the phone isconnected to SYNC, an icon displays on thestatus bar.
Note:Every phone operates differently.While SYNC 911 Assist works with mostcellular phones, some may have troubleusing this feature.
If a crash deploys an airbag (excluding kneeairbags and rear inflatable safety belts [ifequipped]) or activates the fuel pumpshut-off, your SYNC-equipped vehicle maybe able to contact emergency services bydialing 911 through a paired and connectedBluetooth enabled phone. To make sure that 911 Assist works correctly:
•SYNC must be powered and workingproperly at the time of the incident andthroughout feature activation and use.
•The 911 Assist feature must be set onbefore the incident.
•You must pair and connect a Bluetoothenabled and compatible cell phone toSYNC.
•A connected Bluetooth enabled phonemust have the ability to make andmaintain an outgoing call at the time ofthe incident.
•A connected Bluetooth enabled phonemust have adequate network coverage,battery power and signal strength.
•The vehicle must have battery power andbe located in the U.S., Canada or in aterritory in which 911 is the emergencynumber.
In the Event of a Crash
Not all crashes will deploy an airbag oractivate the fuel pump shut-off (the triggersfor 911 Assist). If a connected cell phonesustains damage or loses its connection toSYNC during a crash, SYNC will search forand try to connect to a previously paired cellphone; SYNC will then attempt to call theemergency services.
Before making the call:
•SYNC provides a short window of time(about 10 seconds) to cancel the call. Ifyou fail to cancel the call, SYNC attemptsto dial 911.
•SYNC says the following, or a similarmessage: "SYNC will attempt to call 911,to cancel the call, press Cancel on yourscreen or press and hold the phonebutton on your steering wheel."
If you do not cancel the call, and SYNCmakes a successful call, a pre-recordedmessage plays for the 911 operator, and thenthe occupant(s) in your vehicle is able to talkwith the operator. Be prepared to provideyour name, phone number and locationimmediately, because not all 911 systems arecapable of receiving this informationelectronically.
911 Assist May Not Work If
•Your cellular phone or 911 Assisthardware sustains damage in a crash.
•The vehicle's battery or the SYNC systemhas no power.
•The phone(s) thrown from your vehicleare the ones paired and connected tothe system.
911 Assist Privacy Notice
When you switch on 911 Assist, it maydisclose to emergency services that yourvehicle has been in a crash involving thedeployment of an airbag or activation of thefuel pump shut-off. Certain versions orupdates to 911 Assist may also be capable

To connect your system to Wi-Fi, select:

You can then select your Wi-Fi network. You may haveto enter the security code ifthe network is secured. Thesystem confirms when it hasconnected to the network.
Available Wi-Fi Networks
You must also give the system permissionto update automatically. Upon vehicledelivery, the System asks you if you wouldlike to use the automatic update feature. Ifyou agree to automatic updates, you canpress OK to confirm. If this selection doesnot appear upon vehicle delivery you canaccess it through the General Settings. SeeSettings (page 461). You can also perform amaster reset. See SYNC™ 3 Troubleshooting(page 481).

AutomaticSystemUpdates
When Wi-Fi and automatic updates areenabled, your system checks for softwareupdates periodically. If a new version isavailable, it downloads at that time. Softwaredownloads can take place for up to 30minutes after you have switched your vehicleoff. The updates do not interrupt the normaluse of your SYNC 3 system. If a downloaddoes not complete for any reason, the
download continues where it left off at thenext Wi-Fi connected opportunity. Uponactivation of an update, a banner displayson the touchscreen indicating the systemupdate. Select the icon to see more detail.This icon displays for two ignition cycles.

Privacy Information
When you connect a cellular phone to SYNC3, the system creates a profile within yourvehicle that links to that cellular phone. Thisprofile helps in offering you more cellularfeatures and operating more efficiently.Among other things, this profile may containdata about your cellular phone book, textmessages (read and unread), and call history,including history of calls when your cellphone was not connected to the system. Inaddition, if you connect a media device, thesystem creates and retains an index of
supported media content. The system alsorecords a short diagnostic log ofapproximately 10 minutes of all recent systemactivity. The log profile and other system datamay be used to improve the system and helpdiagnose any problems that may occur.
The cellular profile, media device index, anddiagnostic log remain in your vehicle unlessyou delete them and are generally accessibleonly in your vehicle when the cellular phoneor media player is connected.
If you no longer plan to use the system oryour vehicle, we recommend you perform aMaster Reset to erase all stored information.You can find more information about theMaster Reset in General Settings. SeeSettings (page 461). System data cannot beaccessed without special equipment andaccess to your vehicle's SYNC 3 module. TheLincoln Motor Company does not access thesystem data for any purpose other than asdescribed absent consent, a court order, orwhere required by law enforcement, othergovernment authorities, or other third partiesacting with lawful authority. Other partiesmay seek to access the informationindependently of The Lincoln MotorCompany.

MAX A/C: Touch the button toactivate and maximize cooling. Thedriver and passenger temperaturesare set to LO, recirculated air flowsthrough the instrument panelvents, air conditioningautomatically turns on and the fanautomatically adjusts to the highestspeed.
A/C: Touch to switch the airconditioning on or off. Use A/Cwith recirculated air to improvecooling performance andefficiency.
Note: In certain conditions (forexample, Max Defrost), the airconditioning compressor maycontinue to operate even whenyou switch the air conditioning A/Cbutton off.
Recirculated air: Touch to switchthe recirculated air on or off. Whenrecirculated air is on, it may reducethe amount of time needed to cooldown the interior (when used withA/C) and help reduce odors fromreaching the interior.
Note: Recirculated air may turn offautomatically (or the system mayprevent it from turning on) in allairflow modes except MAX A/C toreduce risk of fogging. It may alsoturn on and off automatically inPanel or Panel/Floor airflow modesduring hot weather in order toimprove cooling efficiency.
Manual airflow distributioncontrols: Select these controlsindividually, together, or withDefrost to direct the air flow to thearea you desire.

Enabling SYNC 3 Mobile Apps
In order to enable mobile apps, SYNC 3requires user consent to send and receiveapp authorization information and updatesusing the data plan associated with theconnected device.
The connected device sends data to Lincolnin the United States. The information isencrypted and includes your VIN, SYNC 3module number, odometer, usage statisticsand debugging information. We retain thisdata for only as long as necessary to providethis service, troubleshoot, and improveproducts and services and to offer youproducts and services that may interest youwhere allowed by law.
Note:You must enable mobile apps for eachconnected device the first time you select amobile app using the system.
Note:Lincoln reserves the right to limitfunctionality or deactivate mobile apps atany time.
Note: Standard data rates apply. Lincoln isnot responsible for any additional chargesyou may receive from your service provider,when your vehicle sends or receives datathrough the connected device. This includesany additional charges incurred due todriving in areas when roaming out of a homenetwork.
You can enable and disable apps throughsettings. See Settings (page 461).
App Permissions
The system organizes the app permissionsinto groups. You can individually grant thesegroup permissions.You can change apermission group status any time when notdriving, by using the settings menu. Whilein the settings menu, you can also see thedata included in each group.
When you launch an app using SYNC 3, thesystem may ask you to grant certainpermissions, for example Vehicle information,Driving characteristics, GPS and Speed,and/or Push notifications. You can enable allgroups or none of them during the initial apppermissions prompts. The settings menuoffers individual group permission control.
Note:You are only prompted to grantpermissions the first time you use an appwith SYNC 3.
Note:If you disable group permissions, appswill still be enabled to work with SYNC 3unless you deactivate All Apps in the settingsmenu.
