xThe vehicle is moving towards a tall or square curbstone, or a steep grade.xAn obstruction is too close to the sensor.xThe vehicle is moving towards an uneven wall or stairs.xThere are multiple obstructions.xThe vehicle is driven in a place with low ceilings.xObstructions under the bumper cannot be detected. Obstructions which are
lower than the sensor or thin may not be detected even though they were
detected once.
xThe following types of obstructions may not be detected:
xThin objects such as wire, rope or polesxThings which absorb sonic waves easily such as cotton or snowxAngular shaped objectsxVery tall objects, and those which are wide at the topxSmall, short objectsxAlways have the system inspected at an expert repairer (we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer) if any shock is applied to the bumpers, even in a
minor accident. If the sensors are deviated, they cannot detect obstructions.
xThe system may have a malfunction if the indicator light does not turn on even
when the parking sensor switch is turned on. Have your vehicle inspected by an
expert repairer (we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer).
xThe system may have a malfunction if a message indicating a system malfunction is
displayed. Have your vehicle inspected by an expert repairer (we recommend an

Informs the driver of the approximate distance from the vehicle to the obstruction
using warning beeps depending on the distance. If multiple obstructions are
detected at the same time, warning beeps are activated according to the distance to
the nearest obstruction. The warning beeps are activated as follows while the system
is operating. However, the warning beeps are not activated while the seat belt
reminder is operating.

Indicator/Beep How to check
A message indicating a sys-
tem malfunction or sensor
malfunction is displayed. There may be a problem with the system. Have your vehicle inspected
by an expert repairer (we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer)
as soon as possible.
A message indicating that the
sensor is dirty is displayed.Remove any foreign matter from the sensor area. If the system does not
recover, have the vehicle inspected by an expert repairer (we recom-
mend an Authorised Mazda Repairer).
A certain obstruction detec-
tion indication is continuous-
ly displayed.Foreign matter may have gotten on the sensor area corresponding to
the detection indicator. If the system does not recover, have the vehicle

conditioner automatically turns on.
The air conditioner will directly
dehumidify the air to the front
windscreen and side windows on page
5-4.
Airflow amount will be increased.
WARNING
Set the temperature control to the hot
or warm position when defogging
(
position):
Using the
position with the
temperature control set to the cold
position is dangerous as it will cause
the outside of the windscreen to fog
up. Your vision will be hampered,
which could lead to a serious accident.
NOTE
xFogging on the windows clears up
more easily while the air conditioner
is on, but they will fog up more easily
if the air conditioner is turned off.
xBe careful that the windows do not
fog up when doing any of the
following:
xSwitching to recirculate modexTurning off the air conditionerxUse the temperature control dial to
increase the air flow temperature
and defog the windscreen more
quickly.
▼Sunlight/Temperature Sensor
The air-conditioning system measures
inside and outside temperatures,
humidity and sunlight using the
sunlight/temperature sensor. It sets
temperatures inside the cabin
accordingly.
CAUTION
Do not obstruct both sensors,
otherwise the air-conditioning system
will not operate properly.

Wiper Blades
▼Wiper Blades
CAUTION
¾Hot waxes applied by automatic car
washers have been known to
affect
the wiper's ability to clean windows.
¾To prevent damage to the wiper
blades, do not use petrol,
paraffin,
paint thinner, or other solvents on or
near them.
¾When the wiper lever is in the AUTO
position and the ignition is switched
ON, the wipers may move
automatically in the following cases:
¾If the windscreen above the rain
sensor is touched.
¾If the windscreen above the rain
sensor is wiped with a cloth.
¾If the windscreen is struck with a
hand or other object.
¾If the rain sensor is struck with a
hand or other object from inside
the vehicle.
Be careful not to pinch hands or
fingers as it may cause injury, or
damage the wipers. When washing
or servicing the vehicle, make sure
the wiper lever is in the OFF
position.
¾Before lifting the windscreen wiper
blades
off the windscreen, always
follow the procedure for moving the
windscreen wiper blades. Otherwise,
a wiper blade, wiper arm, or the
bonnet could be damaged.
Refer to the Replacing Windscreen
Wiper Blades (page 6-32) section
for the procedure on how to move
the windscreen wiper blades to the
service position.
Contamination of either the
windscreen or the blades with foreign
matter can reduce wiper effectiveness.
Common sources are insects, tree sap,
and hot wax treatments used by some
commercial car washes.

If the blades are not wiping properly,
clean the window and blades with a
good cleaner or mild detergent; then
rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Repeat if necessary.
▼Replacing Windscreen Wiper
Blades
When the wipers no longer clean well,
the blades are probably worn or
cracked.
Replace them.
CAUTION
¾To prevent damaging a windscreen
wiper blade, wiper arm, or the
bonnet, perform the following
procedure.
¾Before lifting the windscreen wiper
blades off the windscreen, always
move them to the service position.
¾When putting the windscreen
wiper blades back on the
windscreen, make sure that they
are in the service position before
switching the ignition ON and
operating the windscreen wipers.
¾Replace with Mazda genuine wiper
blades. If they are replaced with
wiper blades other than a Mazda
genuine product, they may not wipe
with the same
efficiency as the
genuine product.
¾To prevent damage to the wiper
arms and other components, do not
try to sweep the wiper arm by hand.
