stop and turn it approximately a quar-
ter of a turn.

7 Soft top compartment hinge
The soft top compartment hinges are on
the right and left in the gap between the
soft top compartment co ver and the boot
seal.
6 Pull both levers 6away from each oth-
er and turn levers 6on both sides of
soft top compartment hinges 7for-
wards beyon dthe notch position. 8
Strap
6 Pull straps 8throu ghon both sides
behind the so fttop compartment hing-
es.
6 Guide the straps th roug h th eresul ting
lo ops. 6
Pull the straps between the soft top
compartment hinges and the soft top
compart ment.
i Do not pull the straps while the boot lid is
ope n.
6 Place the straps on the soft top com-
partment cover.
6 Remove the Allen key and the vehicle
key from the boot.
6 Close the boot lid.
You will not have access to the boot un-
til the emergency operation iscomplet-

st age is being performed, other wise the soft top
co mpartment cover and the boot lid may collide.
6 Each person takes hold of a str ap.
6 Both of you must now simul taneously
pull the soft top compartment cover

jerk. 9

6 One of you must now stand on the right
and the other on the left of the vehicle. 6
Fold soft top compartment cover 9
upwards to the stop; it will then be in a
vertical position. Pull the lid back with
firmly applied force.

6 Lift the soft top out of the soft top com-
partment and guide it forwards to wind-
screen frame b.

Pull the roof lock cover down.
6 Insert the Allen key into the roof lock.
6 Turn the Alle nkey clockw ise c tothe
stop.
6 Turn th eAllen key anti-clockwise dto
the stop.
! Make sure that you turn the Allen key anti-
cl ockwise to the stop, otherwi sethe soft top may
not be locked completely.

6 Push the window of the material ten-
sioning frame with the flat of your hand
until it isresting onthe soft top com-
partme ntcover. 6
You should then both simultaneously
press the soft top compartment cover
forwards /down with the flat of your
hand until itengages in the guide. As
you do this, you should both place your
hands on the points marked with ar-
rows.
You should then simultaneously press
down gently on the material tensioning
frame with the flats of your hands. 6
Insert the Allen key into the roof lock.
6 Turn the Allen key anti-clockw ise h to
the stop.
6 Have the soft top mechanism repai red
immediately at a qualified specialist
workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Serv-

! Ifth e boot cannot be ope ned from th edri v-
er's seat using the remote control or the handle
in the recess for the rear licence plate after
em ergency operation ofthe softtop, press the
soft top compartmen tcover again as described
above.
Never ope nthe boot lid using the emergency key
el em ent. You could otherwi sedamage the boot
lid and th e softtopco mpartment cover. If there is an electri
cal fault, the selector
lever can be released manually from posi-
tion P.Do this totow the vehicle, for exam-
ple.
6 Open the stowage compartment on the
centre consol e.
6 Pull the stowage tray out of the stow-
age compartment (
=page 225).
6 Insert a screwdriver or a pen into the
opening in the separator and prise off
the separator. 3
Pen
6 Insert a pen 3(or a similar object) into
the bore.
6 Push pen 3forwards and, atthe same
time, shift the se lector lever out of po-
sition P.
6 Remove pen3.
You can move the selector lever freely

Changing the key batteries
If the remote control or KEYLESS GO key*
batteries are discharged, you will only be
able lock and unlock the vehicle manually
with the emergency key element
( = pa ge 341).
If the auxiliary heating* remote control
batteries are discharged, you will only be
able to switch the auxiliary heating on and
off with the sw itch inside the vehicle
( = pa ge 176).
It is advisable to have the batteries re-
placed at a qua lified speci alist workshop,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Servi ceCentre. i
Onlyever replace batteries in pairs.
Suitable batteries can be ob tained at a qualified
sp ecialist workshop, e.g. at a Mercede s-Be nz
Service Centre.
They will also cha nge batteries for youand take
back old ba tteries. In manyEU cou ntries and
some other countri es, retail outlets are obliged
to take bac kold batteries. You need two
3VCR 2025 cell batteries.

6 Press the grey release catch in the
opening in the direction of the arrow
using the emergency key element.
The battery compartment is unlocked.
6 Pull battery tray 2out of the remote
control in the direction of the arrow. Changing the key batteries

Service Centre, or a special collection point

minal facing upwards. Use a lint-free
cloth to do this.
6 Slide the bat tery tray back into the re-
mote contro lhousing until itsnaps into
place.
i When inserting the batteries, make sure that
the yare clean and lint-free.
6 Test the function of all the remote con-
trol buttons on the vehicle. Yo
un eed two 3V CR 2025 cel lbatteries.
6 Pull out the emergency key element

= page 341).
6 Release the battery tray and pull out
the key (=
page 355).

Pull out old batteries 1in the direction
of the arrow.
6 Insert the new batteries underneath
contact spr ing 2 with the posit ive ter-
minal facing upwards. Use a lint-free

housing until it snaps into place.

6 Test the KEYLESS GO functions on the

Slide off battery cover 2.
6 Remove old batteries 1.
6 Insert the new batteries. Observe the
plus and minus signs in the remote
control casing.
6 Slide the battery co ver back onto the
remote control.
i Whe ninserting the batteries, make sure that
the yare clean and lint-free.
6 Test the auxiliary heating functions on

aspect of vehicle safety. You must there-
fore make sure that all bulbs are in working
order at all times. i
