GWARNING
When you adjust a seat, you or other vehicle
occupants could become trapped, e.g. on
the seat guide rail. There is a risk of injury.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no
one has any body parts in the sweep of the
seat.
!Make sure that there are no containers inthe cup holder and no objects in the foot-well or behind the seats when adjusting theseats. Otherwise, you could damage theseats and the objects.
You can move the seat forwards in order togain better access to the rear compartment,e.g. to reach the stowage compartment in therear passenger compartment .

GWARNING
Children could injure themselves if they
adjust the steering wheel. There is a risk of
injury.
Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. This
also applies for the Digital Vehicle Key if the
"Digital Vehicle Key" function is activated via
Mercedes me connect.

Rfasten the seat belt
There is a risk of an accident.
Adjust the driver's seat, head restraint,
steering wheel and mirror and fasten your
seat belt before starting the engine.
GWARNING
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side reduces the size of the image. Visible
objects are actually closer than they appear.
This means that you could misjudge the dis-
tance from road users traveling behind, e.g.
when changing lane. There is a risk of an
accident.
For this reason, always make sure of the
actual distance from the road users traveling
behind by glancing over your shoulder.

When the engine is running, the vehicle is sta-tionary and in bright ambient light: if you turnthe light switch to the`position, the day-time running lamps and parking lamps switchon.
If the engine is running and you turn the lightswitch toX, the manual settings take prec-edence over the daytime running lamps.
USA only:
The daytime running lamps improve the visibil-ity of your vehicle during the day. To do this, the daytime running lamps function must beswitched on using the on-board computer(Ypage 200).
If the engine is running and you turn the lightswitch to`orX, the manual settingstake precedence over the daytime runninglamps.
Low-beam headlamps
GWARNING
When the light switch is set toX, the
low-beam headlamps may not be switched
on automatically if there is fog, snow or
other causes of poor visibility due to the
weather conditions such as spray. There is a
risk of an accident.
In such situations, turn the light switch to
X.
Even if the light sensor does not detect that itis dark, the parking lamps and low-beam head-lamps switch on when the ignition is switchedon and the light switch is set to theXposi-tion. This is a particularly useful function in theevent of rain and fog.
XTo switch on the low-beam headlamps:turn the SmartKey to positionHin the igni-tion lock or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch toX.The greenXindicator lamp in the instru-ment cluster lights up.
Parking lamps
!If the battery charge is very low, the park-ing lamps or standing lamps are automati-cally switched off to enable the next enginestart. Always park your vehicle safely and ina well lit area, in accordance with the rele-vant legal stipulations. Avoid using the`parking lamps over a period of several
hours. If possible, switch on the right-handdor left-handcstanding lamps.
XTo switch on:turn the light switch to`.The green`indicator lamp in the instru-ment cluster lights up.

Overview of climate control systems
General notes
Observe the settings recommended on the fol-lowing pages. The windows could otherwisefog up.
To prevent the windows from fogging up:
Rswitch off climate control only briefly
Rswitch on air-recirculation mode only briefly
Rswitch on the cooling with air dehumidifica-tion function
Rswitch on the defrost windshield functionbriefly, if required
Climate control regulates the temperature andthe humidity in the vehicle interior and filtersundesirable substances out of the air.
Climate control can only be operated when theengine is running. Optimum operation is onlyachieved with the side windows and roofclosed.
iWhen the weather is warm, ventilate thevehicle for a brief period. This will speed upthe cooling process and the desired vehicleinterior temperature will be reached morequickly.
iIt is possible that the dehumidificationfunction of the climate control system maybe activated automatically an hour after theSmartKey has been removed. The vehicle isthen ventilated for 30 minutes to dry the air-conditioning system.

RUse the residual heat function if you want toheat or ventilate the vehicle interior whenthe ignition is switched off. The residualheat function can only be activated or deac-tivated with the ignition switched off.
RVehicles with COMAND:if you change thesettings of the climate control system, theclimate status display appears for three sec-onds at the bottom of the screen in theCOMAND display. You will see the currentsettings of the various climate control func-tions.
ECO start/stop function
During automatic engine switch-off, the cli-mate control system only operates at areduced capacity. If you require full climatecontrol capacity, the ECO start/stop functioncan be deactivated by pressing the ECO but-ton (Ypage 130).

Switching cooling with air dehumidi-
fication on/off
General notes
If you deactivate the "Cooling with air-dehu-midification" function, the air inside the vehiclewill not be cooled. The air inside the vehiclewill also not be dehumidified. The windows canfog up more quickly. Therefore, deactivate thecooling with air-dehumidification function onlybriefly.
The "Cooling with air dehumidification" func-tion is only available when the engine is run-ning. The air inside the vehicle is cooled anddehumidified according to the temperatureselected.
Condensation may drip from the underside ofthe vehicle when it is in cooling mode. This isnormal and not a sign that there is a malfunc-tion.
Activating/deactivating
XTo activate:press theZbutton. The indicator lamp in theZbutton lightsup.
XTo deactivate:press theZbutton. The indicator lamp in theZorVbut-ton goes out. The "Cooling with air dehumid-ification" function has a delayed switch-offfeature.

XTo deactivate:press therbutton. The indicator lamp in therbutton goesout.
iAir-recirculation mode deactivates auto-matically:

Rafter approximately five minutes if coolingwith air dehumidification is deactivated
Rafter approximately 30 minutes at outsidetemperatures above approximately 41 ‡(5 †) if the "Cooling with air dehumidifi-cation" function is activated
Switching the residual heat on or off
General notes
The residual heat function is only available onvehicles for Canada.
It is possible to make use of the residual heatof the engine to continue heating the station-ary vehicle for up to 30 minutes after theengine has been switched off. The heatingtime depends on the set interior temperature.

In order to ensure the direct flow of fresh airthrough the air vents into the vehicle interior, please observe the following notes:
Rkeep the air inlet grille on the hood and inthe engine compartment on the front-passenger side free of blockages, such asice, snow or leaves.
Rnever cover the air vents or air intake grillesin the vehicle interior.
iYou can move the adjusters for the airvents vertically or horizontally to set thedirection of the airflow.
iFor optimal climate control in the vehicle, open the air vents completely and set theadjusters to the central position.
Setting the center air vents
XTo open the center air vents:turn theadjuster in one of center air ventsCcoun-ter-clockwise.
XTo close the center air vents:turn theadjuster in one of center air ventsCclock-wise until it engages.

Notes on breaking-in a new vehicle
Important safety notes
The sensor system of some driving and drivingsafety systems adjusts automatically while acertain distance is being driven after the vehi-cle has been delivered or after repairs. Fullsystem effectiveness is not reached until theend of this teach-in procedure.
New and replaced brake pads and discs onlyreach their optimum braking effect after sev-eral hundred kilometers of driving. Compen-sate for this by applying greater force to thebrake pedal.
The first 1000 miles (1500 km)
The more you look after the engine when it isnew, the more satisfied you will be with itsperformance in the future.
RYou should therefore drive at varying vehicleand engine speeds for the first 1,000 miles(1,500 km).
RAvoid heavy loads, e.g. driving at full throt-tle, during this period.
RChange gear in good time, before the tach-ometer needle is
