You can change the following functions to match your preference. Enable automatic ai
r conditioning control:
When the AUTO switch is pressed, orwhen the temperature control dial has been set to the minimum temperature, the air conditioning switch
 is automatically
controlled. Disable automatic air conditioning con- trol: The air conditioning switch is not auto-matically controlled, unless the air condi- tioning switch is used. Changing the settings Press the air condi
tioning switch for
approximately 10 seconds or longer.
When the setting has changed, the system will beep and the i
ndicator light (A) will
flash. • When the setting has changed from enabled to disabled, the system will beepthree times and the indicator light (A) will flash three times. • When the setting has changed from dis-abled to enabled, the system will beep two times and the indi
cator light (A) will
flash three times. On vehicles equipped with the Smart- phone-link Display Audio (SDA), screen operations can also be used to change thesetting. Refer to the separate owner’s manual for details.

When the AUTO switch is pressed, the indi-cator light (A) comes on and the mode selec- tion, blower speed adju
stment, reci
rculated/
outside air selection, temperature adjustment, and air conditioner ON/
OFF status are all
controlled automatically. The selected modeand the blower speed are not shown in the display.
For example, sometimes after using a high- pressure car wash, the
condenser can get wet,
and the indicator light
 blinks temporarily.
Wait for a while, pres
s the air conditioning
switch once to turn the system off, then once more to turn it back on. Once the water evap-orates, the blinking will stop.

Personalizing the
air conditioning
switch (Changing the function set-ting) NOTE
NOTE
The factory setting is “Enable automatic air conditioning control”. When the defogger switch is pressed, the air conditioner will run automatically, even ifthe system is set to “Disable automatic air conditioning control”, in order to prevent windows from fogging up.

To remove frost or mist from the windshield and door windows, use the MODE switch or defogger switch (“ ” or “ ”). Use this setting to ke
ep the windshield and
door windows clear of mist, and to keep theleg area heated (when driving in rain or snow). 1. Set the air selection
switch to the outside
position.
2. Set the MODE switch to the “ ” posi- tion. 3. Select your desired blower speed bypressing the blower speed selection switch. 4. Select your desired temperature by turn-ing the temperature control dial. 5. Push the air conditioning switch. 1. Push the defogger switch. 2. Set the temperature to the highest posi- tion.
N00733701362
1. Park the vehicle in the shade whenever possible. Parking in the hot sun makes the vehicle interior extremely hot which thenrequires more time to cool. If it is neces- sary to park in the sun, open the windows for the first few minutes of air condition-ing to expel the hot air. 2. Afterwards, keep the windows closed when the air conditioner is in use. Theentry of outside air through open windows will reduce cooling efficiency.
Defrosting or defogging (wind- shield, door windows)
CAUTION For safety, make sure you have a clear view through all the windows.

For ordinary defrosting
For quick defrosting NOTE
While the “ ” indicator light is on, the air conditioning compressor
 will run automati-
cally. The outside air
position will also be
selected and the blower
 speed will be set at
the maximum au
tomatically.
If the “ ” indicator light is on, you cannot turn the air conditioner of
f or select the recir-
culation position. This prevents the windowsfrom fogging up. To defog quickly, direct the air flow from the side vents toward the door windows. When defrosting, do not set the temperature to the maximum cool position. This will blow cool air on the
window glass and fog it
up.

Tires
Vehicle care and maintenance 9-21

N00939601479
N00939700141
The following maintenance steps are recom- mended: Check tire pressures regularly. Have regular maintenance done on the wheel balance and front
 and rear suspen-
sion alignment. Rotate your tires regularly as described in the “Tire rotation” se
ction on page 9-22.
N00939800184
Tread wear indicators ar
e built into the origi-
nal equipment tires on
your vehicle to help
you know when your tires should be replaced. Many states have la
ws requiring that you
replace your tires at this point. These indicators are molded into the bottom of the tread grooves and will appear when the tire tread is worn down to 1/16 inch (1.6mm). When the bands appear next to one another in two or more places
, replace your tires.
Replacing tires and wheels
CAUTIONAvoid using different size tires from the one listed and the combined use of differenttypes of tires, as this can affect driving safety. Refer to “Tires and wheels” on page 11-7. On all-wheel drive vehi
cles, always use tires
of the same size, same
 type, and same brand,
and which have no wear differences. Using tires that differ in si
ze, type, brand or the
degree of wear, will increase the differentialoil temperature, resulting in possible damage to the driving system. Further, the drive train will be subjected to ex
cessive loading, possi-
bly leading to oil leakage, component sei- zure, or other serious problems. Only Mitsubishi Motors Authorized wheels should be used, beca
use your vehicle is
equipped with a tire pr
essure monitoring sys-
tem. Use of another type of wheel risks air leaks and sensor damage, as it
 will not be possible
to install the tire pressure sensor properly.
NOTE
 On vehicles with Elec
tric parking brake, 16
inches steel wheel cannot be used on yourvehicle because it interfe
res with brake parts.
Additionally, 16 inches aluminum wheel may not be used on
your vehicle depending
on its type, even if a Mitsubishi Motors Gen-uine wheels. Consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer before using
wheels that you have.

Wiper blades 9-24 Vehicle care and maintenance
9
N00940700138
Check the wiper blades occasionally. Clean them regularly to remove
 deposits of salt and
road film. Use a sponge or cloth and a milddetergent or non-abrasive
 cleaner to clean the
blades and glass areas. Replace the blades if th
ey continue to streak
or smear. If the blades are frozen to the windshield or rear window, do not operate the wipers until the ice has melted and the blades are freed, otherwise the wiper mo
tor may be damaged.
N00940800328
Your vehicle is equi
pped with an emission-
control system that me
ets all the requirements
of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
and Environment Cana
da. The emission-con-
trol system is made of: a positive crankcase
ventilation system
 an evaporative emis
sion-control system
 an exhaust emission-control system
To be sure the emissi
on-control system works
properly, have your ve
hicle inspected and
maintained by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice. This should be done at the time or mileage specified in the “WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL”.These, and all the other “general” mainte- nance services listed in this manual, need to be performed to keep
 your vehicle running
properly and reliably. You should also have
an inspection and ser-
vice any time you suspect a malfunction.
N00940900231
Spark plugs must fire properly to ensure proper engine perfo
rmance and emission-
control.Do not reuse spark plugs by cleaning or regapping. Spark plugs sh
ould be replaced at
the mileage specified in the “WARRANTYAND MAINTENANCE MANUAL”.
Wiper blades
NOTE
Do not run the wipers on dry glass for a long time. This wears out
 the rubber and can
scratch the glass.
During cold weather Emission-control system maintenance
NOTE
To meet government regulations and pro- mote cleaner air, your
 vehicle is equipped
with an onboard dia
gnostic system (OBD).
The engine electronic control module that controls OBD functions stores various data (especially a
bout the exhaust emissions).
This data will be erased if the battery cable is disconnected, which could make a rapid diagnosis difficult.
Do not disconnect the
battery cable when the engine malfunction indicator (“SERVICE ENGINE SOON” or “Check engine
light”) is ON.
Spark plugs
NOTE
Use the recommended or
 equivalent spark
plugs listed under “Engine specifications” onpage 11-6. Use of other plugs could cause engine damage, loss of
 performance or radio
noise.
