zIf the warning display appears, refuel assoon as possible. If the vehicle is runs out of fuel, theengine will not start even in a situationneed to be generated electricity, the fol-lowing conditions will occur.•The driving performance falls (sinceonly the electrical power stored in thedrive battery can be used for the driv-ing).•The heating performance cannot beavailable (except vehicles with electricheater).•The effectiveness of the heater is insuffi-cient (vehicles with electric heater).•The catalytic converter may be damageddue to excessive high temperature.
Refer to “Filling the fuel tank” on page 2-13.Refer to “Fuel remaining display screen” onpage 6-9.
E00203900029
zIt is the battery to operate the motor andthe air conditioning. In addition to the drive battery, OutlanderPHEV has the auxiliary battery to operatelamps, wipers, etc.zCompact, light-weight lithium ion batterywith high energy density is used for thedrive battery.zThe drive battery has the following char-acteristics.Please read this carefully paying attentionto the following:zThe same as ordinary lithium-ion batter-ies, the battery capacity of the drive bat-tery gradually reduces with time, resultingin reduced cruising range. Depending onthe usage conditions, such as frequentquick acceleration/deceleration,extremely hot weather, storing the vehiclein high ambient temperatures, etc., therate of battery capacity drop will increase.
Refueling (gasoline)
CAUTIONzDepending on the opera
ting conditions of
your vehicle, the fuel in the fuel tank maynot be used for a long time and stay in thetank, resulting in deterioration of the fuelquality. As this may af
fect the engine and
fuel system parts, observe the followinginstructions:•Run the engine by pressing the batterycharge switch at least once in 3 months.Refer to “Battery charge switch” on page7-23.• Refuel 20 litres or more of fuel every 6months (to make the total refueling amountin 6 months be 20 litres or more).
zIf refueling of the above
amount is not possi-
ble due to a high fuel level because the vehi-cle has not been used for a long time or forsome other reason, consult a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.
Drive battery
WA R N I N GzA sealed lithium ion
high voltage battery
(drive battery) is
adopted for Outlander
PHEV. If the drive battery is disposed ofimproperly, there is a
risk of severe burns
and electrical shock that may result inserious injury or death and there is also arisk of environmental damage.
zNever attempt to use the drive battery forany other purpose.

When performing inspection and mainte-nance, be careful in the following points.
zIn the event of an accident that requiresbody repair and painting, the vehicleshould be delivered to a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point tohave the drive battery and high voltageparts such as the inverter, including theattached wiring harness, removed prior topainting. If exposed to heat in the paintbooth, the drive battery will experiencebattery capacity loss.A damaged drive battery can also posesafety risks to untr
ained mechanics and
repair personnel.NOTE
zThe emergency shut-off system will be acti-vated and the high-voltage system will auto-matically turn off under the followingconditions:•Certain front, side or rear collisions.•Certain Plug-in Hybrid EV system mal-functions.
zWhen the emergency shut

Inspection and maintenance
WA R N I N GzBefore performing inspection or mainte-nance, be sure to disconnect the chargeconnector from the vehicle and confirmthat put the operation mode of the powerswitch in “OFF”.zNever touch, disassemble, remove orreplace highvolt
age parts, exposed electri-
cal components, cables or connectors.Failure to follow this instruction canresult in severe burns or electric shockcausing serious injury or death. High-volt-age cables are colored orange. The vehiclehigh voltage system has no user servicea-ble parts. Take your vehicle to a MITSUB-ISHI MOTORS Authorised Service Pointfor any necessary maintenance.zNever touch the service plug under therear seat. Improper ha
ndling of this could
cause an electric shock which result in aserious injury or death. The service plug isused to shut off the high voltage from thedrive battery when repairing the vehicleat a MITSUBISHI MOTORS AuthorisedService Point.

WA R N I N GzIf the POWER or CHARGING indicatordoes not illuminates or the FAULT indica-tor blinks or illuminates during normalcharging, please contact a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.zDo not charge when the EV chargingcable is coiled up.The cable may be heated and resulting infire.zDo not alter or disassemble the EV charg-ing cable. Doing so could cause a fire, elec-tric shock or injury.zBe sure to install the cap to the normalcharge connector and
store the EV charg-
ing cable in a place where the cable is notexposed to water or dust. Entry of foreignmatter such as water or dust in the metalterminal of the normal charge connectoror charging cable plug
may cause a fire or
malfunction. Contact with a metal such aswire or tool may cause a fire, electricshock or malfunction.zNever force the connection if the EVcharging cable or connector shows dam-age or is not easily connected due to for-eign material entering the connector orthe outlet. And never use an outlet that isworn, damaged, or will not hold the plugfirmly. Doing so could cause fire, an elec-tric shock, or
short circuit.
zPay attention to the following for handlingthe EV charging cable.Damage to the cable could cause a fire, electric shock,
or short circuit.
•Do not drop the cable or do not givestrong impact to it.•Do not pull with undue force.•Do not twist.•Do not drag.•Do not put an object on top.•Do not put the cable close to a heatingunit including heater.CAUTIONzDo not connect the normal charge cable to anoutlet that has a lower rating than the currentvalue described
on the control box.
NOTE
zAll indicators are illuminated momentarilyfor confirming operation when the chargingcable plug is inserted into an outlet. Afterthat the POWER indicator and the CHARG-ING indicator is continuously illuminated.zThe CHARGING indicator will start to blinkwhen the charging is completed. Devices that support wireless LAN arerequired to communicate with the vehicleusing the MITSUBISHI Remote Control. Also, an SSID* (A) and password (B) arerequired to connect a wireless LAN device tothe vehicle. The SSID and password comewith the key at the time of your purchase ofthe vehicle.
NOTE
zThe electric heater is required to activate thereservation functions of
heater, defroster and
demister.zDue to the communication distance differsdepending on the wireless LAN device, thecommunication may down.
*: An SSID is the identifier of an access
point for IEEE 802.11 series wirelessLAN. It is displayed on wireless LANdevices.
For the operation method of the MITSUBI-SHI Remote Control, please visit Mitsubishi Motors’ Web site:http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/en/prod-ucts/outlander_phev/app/remote/index.htmlzIf you need further information, please contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
WA R N I N GzDo not use the MITSUBISHI RemoteControl if children, persons in need ofcare, pets, etc. are in the vehicle. Even ifthe remote climate control is used, thecabin may become hot or cold due to somereasons such as automatic stop of the sys-tem. The cabin temperature may quicklyrise in sunshine, which poses a risk of heatstroke and dehydration. In cold weather,on the other hand, the cabin temperaturemay quickly drop. Either of which couldlead to death in the worst case.zThe cooling fan in
the engine compart-
ment may operate automatically whencharging or when operating air condi-tioner. Do not bring you
r hand close to the
cooling fan during charging.CAUTIONzDo not use the timer charging or the remoteclimate control with a car cover.NOTE
zKeep the following points in mind whenusing a wireless LAN device:•Communication speed and range varydepending on the wirele
ss LAN devices and
the surrounding conditi
ons (radio environ-
