Follow theseeasy-to-use FuelEfficient Driving
Tips tohelp youachieve themost fueleconomy
from yourvehicle.
1. Use smooth accelerator andbrake pedal
application.
.
Avoid rapidstarts andstops.
.
Use smooth, gentleaccelerator and
brake application wheneverpossible.
.
Maintain constant speedwhilecommut-
ing and coast whenever possible.
2. Maintain constant speed.
.
Look ahead totry and anticipate and
minimize stops.
.
Synchronizing yourspeed withtraffic
lights allows youtoreduce yournumber
of stops.
.
Maintaining asteady speedcanminimize
red light stops andimprove fueleffi-
ciency .
3. Use airconditioning (A/C)athigher vehicle
speeds.
.
Below 40MPH (64km/h) ,it is more
efficient toopen windows tocool the
vehicle duetoreduced engineload.
.
Above 40MPH (64km/h) ,it is more
efficient touse A/C tocool thevehicle
due toincreased aerodynamic drag.
.
Recirculating thecool airinthe cabin
when theA/C ison reduces coolingload.
4. Drive ateconomical speedsanddistances.
.
Observing thespeed limitandnotex-
ceeding 60MPH (97km/h) (where
legally allowed) canimprove fueleffi-
ciency duetoreduced aerodynamic
drag.
.
Maintaining asafe following distance
behind othervehicles reduces unneces-
sary braking.
.
Safely monitoring traffictoanticipate
changes inspeed permits reduced brak-
ing and smooth acceleration changes.
.
Select agear range suitable toroad
conditions.
5. Use cruise control.
.
Using cruise control duringhighway
driving helpsmaintain asteady speed.
.
Cruise control isparticularly effectivein
providing fuelsavings whendriving on
flat terrains.
6. Plan forthe shortest route.
.
Utilize amap ornavigation systemto
determine thebest route tosave time.
7. Avoid idling.
.
Shutting offyour engine whensafefor
stops exceeding 30-60seconds saves fuel
and reduces emissions.
8. Buy anautomated passfortoll roads.
.
Automated passespermitdrivers touse
special lanestomaintain cruisingspeed
through thetolland avoid stopping and
starting.
9. Winter warmup.
.
Limit idling timetominimize impacttofuel
economy .
.
V ehicles typically neednomore than30
seconds ofidling atstart-up toeffectively
circulate theengine oilbefore driving.
.
Y our vehicle willreach itsideal operating
temperature morequickly whiledriving
versus idling.
10. Keeping yourvehicle cool.
.
Park yourvehicle inacovered parking
area orinthe shade whenever possible.
.
When entering ahot vehicle, opening the
windows willhelp toreduce theinside
temperature faster,resulting inreduced
demand onyour A/Csystem.
