Installing thespare tire

The spare tireisdesigned foremergency
use. (See specific instructions underthe
heading ªWheels andtiresº (P.8-31) .)
1. Clean anymud ordirt from thesurface
between thewheel andhub.
2. Carefully putthespare tireonand tighten
the wheel nutsfinger tight.Check thatallthe
wheel nutscontact thewheel surface
horizontally .
3. With thewheel nutwrench, tightenwheel
nuts alternately andevenly inthe sequence
as illustrated (

than 2times, untilthey aretight. 4.
Lower thevehicle slowlyuntilthetire
touches theground. Then,withthewheel
nut wrench, tightenthewheel nutssecurely
in the sequence asillustrated. Lowerthe
vehicle completely .
WARNING
. Incorrect wheelnutsorimproperly
tightened wheelnutscancause the
wheel tobecome looseorcome off.
This could cause anaccident.
. Do not use oilorgrease onthe
wheel studsornuts. Thiscould
cause thenuts tobecome loose.
. Retighten thewheel nutswhen the
vehicle hasbeen driven for600
miles (1,000 km)(also incases ofa
flat tire, etc.).

As soon aspossible, tightenthe
wheel nutstothe specified torque
with atorque wrench.
Wheel nuttightening torque:
80 ft-lb (108 N´m)
The wheel nutsmust bekept tightened
to specifications atall times. Itis
recommended thatthewheel nutsbe tightened
tospecifications ateach
lubrication interval.

Adjust tirepressure tothe COLD
pressure.
COLD pressure:
After thevehicle hasbeen parked for3
hours ormore ordriven lessthan 1mile
(1.6 km).
COLD tirepressures areshown onthe
Tire andLoading Information label
affixed tothe driver sidecenter pillar.
Stowing thedamaged tireand thetools

1. Securely storethejack, tools andthe
damaged tireinthe storage area.
2. Replace thecargo floorboxand board.
3. Close theliftgate.

accident orsudden stop.

T o start yourengine withabooster battery,the
instructions andprecautions belowmustbe
followed.
WARNING
. Ifdone incorrectly, jumpstarting
can lead toabattery explosion,
resulting insevere injuryordeath.
It could alsodamage yourvehicle.
. Explosive hydrogengasisalways
present inthe vicinity ofthe battery.
Keep allsparks andflames away
from thebattery.
. Do not allow battery fluidtocome
into contact witheyes, skin,clothing
or painted surfaces. Batteryfluidis
a corrosive sulfuricacidsolution
which cancause severe burns.If
the fluid should comeintocontact
with anything, immediately flushthe
contacted areawithwater.
. Keep thebattery outofthe reach of
children.
. The booster batterymustberated at
12 volts. Useofan improperly rated
battery candamage yourvehicle. .
Whenever workingonornear a
battery, alwayswearsuitable eye
protectors (forexample, gogglesor
industrial safetyspectacles) and
remove rings,metal bands, orany
other jewelry. Donot lean over the
battery whenjumpstarting.
. Do not attempt tojump starta
frozen battery. Itcould explode
and cause serious injury.
. Your vehicle hasanautomatic en-
gine cooling fan.Itcould comeonat
any time. Keep hands andother
objects awayfromit.

4. Switch offallunnecessary electricalsystems
(headlights, heater,airconditioner, etc.).
5. Remove thevent caps onthe battery (ifso
equipped) .Cover thebattery withafirmly
wrung outmoist clothtoreduce explosion
hazard. 6.
Connect jumpercablesinthe sequence as
illustrated (

If the battery isdischarged, theignition
switch cannot bemoved fromtheOFF

CAUTION
Do not keep thestarter motorengaged
for more than10seconds. Ifthe engine
does notstart right away, placethe
ignition switchinthe OFF position and
wait 10seconds beforetryingagain.

Do not attempt tostart theengine bypushing.
CAUTION
. Continuously Variable Transmission
(CVT) models cannotbepush-
started ortow-started. Attempting
to do somay cause transmission
damage.
. Three-way catalystequipped mod-
els should notbestarted bypushing
since thethree waycatalyst maybe
damaged.
. Never trytostart thevehicle by
towing it; when theengine starts,
the forward surgecouldcause the
vehicle tocollide withthetow
vehicle.

CAUTION
. Do not continue todrive ifyour
vehicle overheats. Doingsocould
cause engine damage oravehicle
fire.
. To avoid thedanger ofbeing
scalded, neverremove theradiator
cap while theengine isstill hot.
When theradiator capisremoved,
pressurized hotwater willspurt out,
possibly causingseriousinjury.
. Do not open thehood ifsteam is
coming out.
If your vehicle isoverheating (indicatedbyan
extremely hightemperature gaugereading) ,or if
you feel alack ofengine power, detectabnormal
noise, etc.,takethefollowing steps:
1. Move thevehicle safelyoffthe road and
apply theparking brake.
2. Continuously Variable Transmission
(CVT) models:
Move theshift lever tothe P(Park) position.
Manual Transmission (MT)models:
Move theshift lever tothe N(Neutral)
position.

Do not stop theengine.
3. Turn offthe airconditioner (ifso equipped) .
Open allthe windows, movetheheater orair
conditioner temperature controltomaximum
hot and fancontrol tohigh speed.
4. Get outofthe vehicle. Lookandlisten for
steam orcoolant escaping fromtheradiator
before opening thehood. (Ifsteam or
coolant isescaping, turnoffthe engine.)
Do not open thehood further untilnosteam
or coolant canbeseen.
5. Open theengine hood.
WARNING
If steam orwater iscoming fromthe
engine, standcleartoprevent getting
burned.
6. Visually checkthedrive beltfordamage or
looseness. Alsocheck ifthe cooling fanis
running. Theradiator hosesandradiator
should notleak water. Ifcoolant isleaking or
the cooling fandoes notrun, stop the
engine.
WARNING
Be careful nottoallow yourhands, hair,
jewelry orclothing tocome intocontact
with, orget caught in,engine beltsor
the engine cooling fan.Theengine
cooling fancan start atany time.
7. After theengine coolsdown, checkthe
coolant levelinthe reservoir withtheengine
running. Addcoolant tothe reservoir if
necessary .Have yourvehicle repaired ata
NISSAN dealer.

When towing yourvehicle, allState (Provincial in
Canada) andlocal regulations fortowing must
be followed. Incorrecttowingequipment could
damage yourvehicle. Towing instructions are
available fromaNISSAN dealer.Localservice
operators arefamiliar withtheapplicable laws
and procedures fortowing. To assure proper
towing andtoprevent accidental damageto
your vehicle, NISSAN recommends thatyou
have aservice operator towyour vehicle. Itis
advisable tohave theservice operator carefully
read thefollowing precautions.
WARNING
. Never rideinavehicle thatisbeing
towed.
. Never getunder yourvehicle afterit
has been lifted byatow truck.
CAUTION
. When towing, makesurethatthe
transmission, axles,steering system
and powertrain areinworking con-
dition. Ifany unit isdamaged, dol-
lies must beused. .
Always attachsafetychains before
towing.

towed withthedriving (front)wheels offthe
ground orplace thevehicle onaflat bed truck as
illustrated.
CAUTION
. Never towCVT models withthefront
wheels onthe ground orfour
wheels onthe ground (forward or
backward) ,as this may cause ser- ious
andexpensive damagetothe
transmission. Ifitis necessary to
tow thevehicle withtherear wheels
raised, always usetowing dollies
under thefront wheels.
. When towing CVTmodels withthe
front wheels ontowing dollies:
Push theignition switchtothe
ACC orON position, andsecure
the steering wheelinastraight-
ahead position witharope orsimi-
lar device. Movetheshift lever to
the N(Neutral) position. .
When towing aCVT model withthe
rear wheels onthe ground (ifyou do
not use towing dollies):Always
release theparking brake.

use thefollowing procedure:
1. Turn offthe Vehicle Dynamic Control(VDC)
system.
2. Make surethearea infront andbehind the

3. Turn thesteering wheelrightandlefttoclear
an area around thefront tires.
4. Slowly rockthevehicle forward andback-
ward.

Shift back andforth between R(Reverse)

Apply theaccelerator aslittle aspossible
to maintain therocking motion.
