1. Drain ATF through drain plug.
2. Remove drain plug gasket from drain plug.
3. Remove torque converter.
4. Check torque converter one-way clutch using check tool as
shown in the figure.
a. Insert check tool into groove of bearing support built into one-
way clutch outer race.
b. When fixing bearing support with check tool, rotate one- way
clutch spline using screwdriver.
c. Check that inner race rotates clockwise only. If not, replace
torque converter assembly.

5. Set manual shaft to “P” position.
6. Remove PNP switch.
7. Remove bracket from transaxle case.
8. Remove revolution sensor from transaxle case.
9. Remove O-ring from revolution sensor.
10. Remove turbine revolution sensor (power train revolution sen-
sor) from transaxle case.
11. Remove O-ring from turbine revolution sensor (power train revo-
lution sensor).
12. Remove oil pan fitting bolts.
13. Remove oil pan and oil pan gasket.
14. Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine causes of
malfunction. If the ATF is very dark, smells burned, or contains
foreign particles, frictional material (clutches, band) may need
replacement. A tacky film that will not wipe clean indicates var-
nish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and clutches to
stick and can inhibit pump pressure.
If frictional material is detected, replace radiator after
repair of A/T.
15. Remove magnets from oil pan.
16. Remove control valve assembly according to the following procedures.
a. Remove snap ring from terminal body.
CAUTION:
Do not expand snap ring excessively.
b. Push terminal body into transaxle case and draw out terminal
cord assembly.

d. Remove control valve assembly from transaxle case.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to drop manual valve.
17. Remove manual valve from control valve assembly.
Check the sliding surfaces of manual valve and valve body,
and replace if damage or dented.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to drop manual valve.
18. Remove O-ring from terminal body.

20. Remove servo release accumulator piston with compressed air.
CAUTION:
Strong flow of air will push the accumulator piston out
along with a splash of ATF. Cover the area with lint-free
paper and blow air little by little to avoid this.
21. Remove N-D accumulator piston and return spring with com-
pressed air.
CAUTION:
Strong flow of air will push the accumulator piston out
along with a splash of ATF. Cover the area with lint-free
paper and blow air little by little to avoid this.
22. Remove O-ring from servo release accumulator piston and N-D
accumulator piston.
CAUTION:
Wrap the removed servo release accumulator piston and N-
D accumulator piston in a lint-free paper.
Check the contact surface of each accumulator piston and tran-
saxle case, and replace if damaged or dented.
