Overtaking another vehicle

• When overtaking several vehicles in a row, the vehicles af ter the first vehicle
may not be detected if they are travel-
ing close together. • The radar sensors may not detect
slower moving vehicles if they are
passed quickly.

SYSTEM TEMPORARILY
UNAVAILABLEWhen radar blockage is detected, the sys-
tem will be deactivated automatically.
The “Unavailable: Side Radar Obstruction”
warning message will appear and theBSW/RCTA indicator (white) will blink

The system is not available until the condi-
tions no longer exist.
The radar sensors may be blocked by tem-
porary ambient conditions such as splash-
ing water, mist or fog. The blocked condi-
tion may also be caused by objects such as
ice, frost or dirt obstructing the radar sen-
sors.
NOTE:
If the BSW system stops working, the
RCTA system (if so equipped) will also
stop working.
Action to take:
When the above conditions no longer exist,
the system will resume automatically.
Malfunction
If the BSW system malfunctions, it will turn
off automatically. The system malfunction
warning message with the BSW/RCTA indi-
cator (orange) will appear in the vehicle in-
formation display.

RCTA SYSTEM OPERATION

2. BSW/RCTA IndicatorThe RCTA system can help alert the driver
of an approaching vehicle when the driver
is backing out of a parking space.When the shif t position is in R (Reverse) and
the vehicle speed is less than approxi-
mately 5 mph (8 km/h), the RCTA system is
operational.
If the radar detects an approaching vehicle
from the side, the system chimes a sound
(single beep) and the side BSW/RCTA indi-
cator light on the side of the vehicle is ap-
proaching from flashes.

• If the cruise control system malfunctions, it cancels automatically. The
(green)
indicator illuminates in the vehicle infor-
mation display then blinks to warn the
driver.

• If the(green) indicator blinks, push
the ON/OFF switch off and have the sys-
tem checked. It is recommended that
you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
• The
(green) indicator may blink
when the ON/OFF switch is pushed ON
while pushing the ACCEL/RES, COAST/
SET, or CANCEL switch. To properly set the
cruise control system, use the following
procedures.
WARNING
Do not use the cruise control when driv-
ing under the following conditions:
• When it is not possible to keep the
vehicle at a set speed.
• In heavy traffic or in traffic that varies
in speed.
• On winding or hilly roads.
• On slippery roads (rain, snow, ice,
etc.).
• In very windy areas.
Doing so could cause a loss of vehicle
control and result in an accident.
CRUISE CONTROL OPERATIONS
The cruise control allows driving at a speed
between 25 - 89 mph (40 - 144 km/h) with-
out keeping your foot on the accelerator
pedal.
To turn on the cruise control, push the
ON/OFF switch on. The
(white) indica-
tor in the vehicle information display will
illuminate.
To set cruising speed, accelerate the ve-
hicle to the desired speed, push the
COAST/SET switch and release it. The
(green) indicator in the vehicle infor-
mation display will illuminate. Take your
foot off the accelerator pedal. Your vehicle
maintains the set speed.
• To pass another vehicle, depress the ac-
celerator pedal. When you release the
pedal, the vehicle returns to the previ-
ously set speed.
• The vehicle may not maintain the set speed when going up or down steep hills.
If this happens, drive without the cruise
control.
To cancel the preset speed, use one of the
following three methods:
• Push the CANCEL switch; the
indica-
tor in the vehicle information display
goes out. • Tap the brake pedal; the
indicator
goes out.
• Push the ON/OFF switch off. The
indicator in the vehicle information dis-
play goes out.
The cruise control is automatically can-
celed and the
indicator in the vehicle
information display goes out if:
• You depress the brake pedal while push- ing the ACCEL/RES or COAST/SET switch.
The preset speed is deleted from
memory.
• The vehicle slows down more than 8 mph (13 km/h) below the set speed.
• You move the shif t lever to N (Neutral).
To reset at a faster cruising speed, use
one of the following three methods:
• Depress the accelerator pedal. When the vehicle attains the desired speed, push
and release the COAST/SET switch.
• Push and hold the ACCEL/RES switch. When the vehicle attains the speed you
desire, release the switch.
• Push and release the ACCEL/RES switch. Each time you do this, the set speed in-
creases by about 1 mph (1.6 km/h).

Vehicle-to-vehicle distance
control mode display and
indicators
The display is located between the speed-
ometer and tachometer.
1. This indicator indicates the ICC systemstatus depending on a color:
• ICC system ON indicator (gray): Indi-
cates that the ON/OFF switch is on.
• ICC system SET indicator (green): In-
dicates that the cruising speed is set. •
ICC system warning (yellow): Indi-
cates that there is a malfunction in the
ICC system.
2. Set vehicle speed indicator: Indicates the set vehicle speed.
For Canadian models, the speed is dis-
played in km/h.
3. Vehicle ahead detection indicator: Indicates whether it detects a vehicle in
front of you.
4. Set distance indicator: Displays the selected distance between
vehicles set with the distance switch.
Operating vehicle-to-vehicle
distance control mode
To turn on the cruise control, quickly push
and release the ON/OFF switch

To set cruising speed,accelerate your ve-
hicle to the desired speed, push the
COAST/SET switch
OCand release it. The
ICC system set indicator (green), vehicle
ahead detection indicator, set distance in-
dicator and set vehicle speed indicator
OB
will come on. Take your foot off the accel-
erator pedal. Your vehicle will maintain the
set speed. When the COAST/SET switch is pushed un-
der the following conditions, the system
cannot be set and the ICC indicators will
blink for approximately 2 seconds:
• When traveling below 20 mph (32 km/h)
and a vehicle ahead is not detected
• When the shif t lever is not in the D (Drive) or Manual mode
• When the parking brake is applied
• When the brakes are operated by the driver
When the COAST/SET switch is pushed un-
der the following conditions, the system
cannot be set. A warning chime will sound and a message
will pop up:
• When the VDC system is off (To use the
ICC system, turn on the VDC system. Push
the ON/OFF switch to turn off the ICC
system and reset the ON/OFF switch by
pushing the ON/OFF switch again.)

trol (VDC) system” (P. 5-118).
• When VDC is operating
• When a wheel is slipping (To use the ICC system, make sure the wheels are no lon-
ger slipping.)

The driver sets the desired vehicle speed
based on the road conditions. The ICC sys-
tem maintains the set vehicle speed, simi-
lar to standard cruise control, as long as no
vehicle is detected in the lane ahead. The
ICC system displays the set speed. Vehicle detected ahead
When a vehicle is detected in the lane
ahead, the ICC system decelerates the ve-
hicle by controlling the throttle and apply-
ing the brakes to match the speed of a
slower vehicle ahead. The system then
controls the vehicle speed based on the
speed of the vehicle ahead to maintain the
driver selected distance.
NOTE:
• The stop lights of the vehicle come on
when braking is performed by the ICC
system.
• When the brake operates, a noise may be heard. This is not a malfunction.
When a vehicle ahead is detected, the ve-
hicle ahead detection indicator comes on.
The ICC system will also display the set
speed and selected distance.
Vehicle ahead not detected
When a vehicle is no longer detected
ahead, the ICC system gradually acceler-
ates your vehicle to resume the previously
set vehicle speed. The ICC system then
maintains the set speed. When a vehicle is no longer detected, the
vehicle ahead detection indicator turns off.
If a vehicle ahead appears during accelera-
tion to the set vehicle speed or any time the
ICC system is in operation, the system con-
trols the distance to that vehicle.
When a vehicle is no longer detected under
approximately 15 mph (24 km/h), the sys-
tem will be canceled.
