18. Immediately drive the vehicle 5 miles (8 km)
to distribute the sealant evenly in the tire.
Stop at a safe location and check the
tire pressure. Refer to Steps 1 through 8
under “Using the Air Compressor without
Sealant” next in this section. If the tire
pressure has fallen more than 10 psi (68 kPa)
below the recommended ination pressure,
stop driving the vehicle. The tire is too
damaged for the sealant to work. See
Roadside Assistance Program on page 498.
If the tire pressure has not dropped more than
10 psi (68 kPa) from the recommended
ination pressure, you can inate the tire back
up to the recommended ination pressure.
19. Dispose of the sealant canister at a local GM
dealer or in accordance with your local state
codes and practices.
After using the sealant canister, replace it with
a new canister from a GM dealer.
20. After temporarily repairing a tire with the
emergency at tire repair kit, take your
vehicle to an authorized GM dealer to have
the tire inspected and repaired.Using the Air Compressor without
Sealant
To use the air compressor by itself to inate a tire,
do the following:
1. Remove the air compressor accessory plug
from the air compressor.
2. Unlock the air compressor hose from the
sealant canister by pulling up on the lever.
3. Pull the air compressor inator hose from the
sealant canister.
431

4. Push the air compressor inator hose onto the
tire valve stem and push the lever down to
secure in place.
5. Plug the air compressor accessory plug into
an accessory power outlet in the vehicle. See
Accessory Power Outlet(s) on page 156for
more information.
{CAUTION:
Idling the engine in a closed-in place or
with the climate control system off can
cause deadly carbon monoxide (CO). See
Engine Exhaust on page 119.
6. Start the vehicle. SeeStarting the Engine on
page 107for more information. The vehicle
must be running while using the air
compressor.
{CAUTION:
Inating something too much can make it
explode, and you or others could be
injured. Be sure to read the inator
instructions, and inate the tire to its
recommended pressure. Do not exceed
36 psi (248 kPa).
7. Move the inator kit switch to the I (on)
position.
8. Make sure there is a proper connection
between the tire valve stem and the air
compressor hose by looking at the air
pressure gage. If there is not a pressure
reading while the compressor is running, the
connection between the inator kit and
the tire is bad.
Check the attachment between the air
compressor hose and the tire valve stem.
432

9. Inate the tire up to the recommended
ination pressure using the air pressure gage
on the top of the unit as a guide.
10. Turn off the air compressor by moving the
switch to the O (off) position.
{CAUTION:
Storing the tire inator kit or other
equipment in the passenger compartment
of the vehicle could cause injury. In a
sudden stop or collision, loose equipment
could strike someone. Store the tire
inator kit in the proper place.
11. Disconnect the compressor inator hose and
wrap the hose in the bottom of the inator kit.
12. Place the equipment in the original location in
the trunk of your vehicle.
Removal and Installation of the Sealant
Canister

1. Unlock the air compressor inator hose from
the sealant canister by pulling the lever up.
2. Disconnect the air compressor inator hose
from the sealant canister.
3. Unwrap the sealant lling hose from the
compressor.
433

4. Turn the sealant canister so the inator lling
hose is aligned with the slot in the
compressor.5. Lift the sealant canister from the air
compressor and replace with a new sealant
canister. See your GM dealer for more
information.
To install a new sealant canister, do the following:
1. Align the sealant lling hose with the slot in
the air compressor.
2. Push the sealant canister down and turn it
clockwise.
3. Wrap the sealant lling hose around the air
compressor channel to stow it in its original
location.
4. Push the air compressor inator hose onto
the sealant canister inlet and push the
lever down.

Changing a Flat Tire
If a tire goes at, avoid further tire and wheel
damage by driving slowly to a level place. Turn on
your vehicle’s hazard warning ashers. See
Hazard Warning Flashers on page 134for more
information.
{CAUTION:
Changing a tire can be dangerous. The
vehicle can slip off the jack and roll over
or fall on you or other people. You and
they could be badly injured or even killed.
Find a level place to change your tire. To
help prevent the vehicle from moving:
1. Set the parking brake rmly.
2. Put the shift lever in PARK (P).
CAUTION: (Continued)
CAUTION: (Continued)
3. Turn off the engine and do not restart
while the vehicle is raised.
4. Do not allow passengers to remain in
the vehicle.
To be even more certain the vehicle will
not move, you should put blocks at the
front and rear of the tire farthest away
from the one being changed. That would
be the tire, on the other side, at the
opposite end of the vehicle.
435

When your vehicle has a at tire, use the following
example as a guide to assist you in the placement
of wheel blocks.
The following information will tell you next how to
use the jack and change a tire.Removing the Spare Tire and Tools
The equipment needed to change a tire is
located in the trunk.
1. Open the trunk. SeeTrunk on page 96for
more information.
2. Remove the convenience net, if equipped, by
removing the net hook attachments.
3. Lift up the carpet.
4. Turn the center nut
on the compact
spare tire cover
counterclockwise to
remove it.
5. Remove the cover.
6. Remove the compact spare tire. SeeCompact
Spare Tire on page 447for more information.
436

Removing the Flat Tire and
Installing the Spare Tire
Your vehicle may have aluminum wheels. If so,
you will see exposed stainless steel wheel
nuts. Use the wheel wrench to loosen all the
wheel nuts. Do not remove them yet.
Or, your vehicle may have steel wheel covers. To remove the steel wheel covers and wheel nut
caps, loosen the plastic nut caps with the wheel
wrench in a counterclockwise direction. If needed,
you can nish loosening them with your ngers. The
plastic nut caps will not come off.
Use the at end of the wheel wrench and pry
along the edge of the cover until it comes off. The
edge of the wheel cover could be sharp, so do
not try to remove it with your bare hands. Do not
drop the cover or lay it face down, as it could
become scratched or damaged.
438

Once you have removed the wheel cover, use the
following procedure to remove the at tire and
install the spare tire.
1. Set the park brake rmly. Before preceding
it is recommended that you perform a safety
check. SeeChanging a Flat Tire on
page 435for more information.
2. Turn the wheel
wrench once on
each wheel nut to
loosen them. Do not
remove them yet.
3. Find the jacking location located on the
underside of the rocker trim using the diagram.
For jacking at the vehicle’s front location,
put the jack lift head (C) about 6 inches
(15 cm) from the rear edge of the front wheel
opening (B). Line up the jack with the
arrow (A) as shown.
439

For jacking at the vehicle’s rear location, put the
jack lift head (B) about 9 inches (23 cm) from
the front edge of the rear wheel opening (C).
Line up the jack with the arrow (A) as shown.4. Put the compact spare tire near you.
{CAUTION:
Getting under a vehicle when it is jacked
up is dangerous. If the vehicle slips off
the jack you could be badly injured or
killed. Never get under a vehicle when it is
supported only by a jack.
{CAUTION:
Raising your vehicle with the jack
improperly positioned can damage the
vehicle and even make the vehicle fall. To
help avoid personal injury and vehicle
damage, be sure to t the jack lift head
into the proper location before raising the
vehicle.
