8. CONNECTION OF SIDE AND CURTAIN SHIELD AIR-
BAG SENSOR CONNECTOR
(a) Align the male connector (of the side of sensor) and fe-
male connector in the same direction as shown in the il-
lustration and fit in them without rubbing.
(b) As they are fitted in, the outer slides rearward. Press it un-
til the outer returns to its original position again.
If fitting stops half way, connectors will separate.
(c) Make sure to insert until they are locked. After fitting in,
pull them slightly to check that they are locked. (When
locked, make sure that the outer returns to its original
position and sound at the time of fitting in can be heard.)
HINT:
Do not fit in while holding the outer.
When fitting in, the outer slides. Do not touch it.

REPLACEMENT
REPLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS
In the following cases, replace the side ans curtain shield airbag sensor assembly.
If the side airbag assembly and curtain shield airbag assembly has been deployed in a collision.
If the side and curtain shield airbag sensor assembly has been found to be faulty in troubleshoot-
ing.
If the side and curtain shield airbag sensor assembly has been dropped.

INSTALLATION
NOTICE:
Never use SRS parts from another vehicle. When re-
placing parts, replace them with new ones.
Never reuse the side and curtain shield airbag sensor
assembly involved in a collision when the airbag has
deployed.
Never repair a sensor in order to reuse it.
1. INSTALL SIDE AND CURTAIN SHILD AIRBAG SEN-
SOR
(a) Install the side and curtain shield airbag assembly with
the 2 bolts and nut.
Torque: 21 N·m (210 kgf·cm, 15 ft·lbf)
(b) Connect the side and curtain shild airbag sensor connec-
tor.
NOTICE:
Installation of the connector is done with the sensor
assembly installed. Make sure the sensor assembly
is installed with the specified torque.
If the sensor assembly has been dropped, or there are
cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or
connector, replace the sensor assembly with a new
one.
When installing the sensor assembly, take care that
the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and
is not pinched between other parts.
After installation, shake the sensor assembly to
check that there is no looseness.
2. INSTALL FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT RETRACTOR
(See pub. No. RM599E on page BO–159)
(a) Install the retractor with the 2 bolts.
Torque:
Upper bolt: 5.0 N·m (51 kgf·cm, 44 in.·lbf)
Lower bolt: 42 N·m (430 kgf·cm, 31 ft·lbf)
(b) Connect the pretensioner connecter.
3. INSTALL CENTER PILLAR LOWER GARNISH
4. INSTALL FRONT AND REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SPEEDOMETER ON–VEHICLE
Using a speedometer tester, inspect the speedometer for allow-
able indication error and check the operation of the odometer.
HINT:
Tire wear and tire over or under inflation will increase the indica-
tion error.

120 120 – 136
140 140 – 158
160 160 – 180
If error is excessive, replace the speedometer.
2. INSPECT VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR OPERATION
(a) Connect the positive (+) lead from battery to terminal 1
and negative (–) lead to terminal 2.
(b) Connect the positive (+) lead from tester to terminal 3 and
the negative (–) lead to terminal 2.
(c) Rotate the shaft.
(d) Check that the voltage changes from approx. 0 V to 11 V
or more between terminals 2 and 3.
HINT:
The voltage changes be 4 times every revolution of the speed
sensor shaft.
If operation is not as specified, replace the sensor.
3. INSPECT TACHOMETER/
ON–VEHICLE
(a) Connect a tune–up test tachometer, and start the engine.
NOTICE:
Reversing the connection of the tachometer will dam-
age the transistors and diodes inside.
When removing or installing the tachometer, be care-
ful not to drop or subject it to heavy shocks.
