1Open the cover of the USB port or
USB/AUX port and connect a USB
memory.
The USB port or USB/AUX port is located
on the instrument panel, or near the shift
knob etc. The actual design and port posi-
tion will differ depending on the vehicle. For
details, refer to vehicle “Owner’s Manual”.
If a USB hub is plugged-in, two devices
can be connected at a time.
 Even if a USB hub is used to connect
more than two USB devices, only the first
two connected devices will be recognized.
1Press the “MEDIA” button.
The audio system displays the current
source screen or displays the source
selection screen.
2On the current source screen, touch
the “Source” or press the “MEDIA”
button to display the audio source
selection screen.

 The progress bar indicator does not
always correspond to the actual elapsed

 If the song’s data does not contain an
ID3 tag, the file name will be displayed
instead of the song title. Please note that
the file name will not include the file’s
extension.

Connecting an iPod with the USB port enables users to enjoy music via the vehicle
speakers.
OVERVIEW
The iPod operation screen can be reached by the following methods:

cable.
The USB port or USB/AUX port is located
on the instrument panel, or near the shift

Turn on the power of the iPod if it is not
turned on.
 If a USB hub is plugged-in, two devices
can be connected at a time.
 Even if a USB hub is used to connect

The audio system displays the current

Only the volume can be adjusted using
the audio system controls.
 The volume level depends on the output
level of the connected audio device itself.

9. STEERING SWITCHES
Availability, actual design and button posi-
tion may differ depending on vehicle
model or grade. For details, refer to vehi-
cle “Owner’s Manual” .
 Details of the specific switches, controls,
and features are described below.
 Steering wheel switches may not be
equipped on all vehicles.
Volume control switch
 Press the “+” side to increase the volume.
The volume continues to increase while
the switch is being pressed.
 Press the “-” side to decrease the vol-
ume. The volume continues to decrease

To select a preset station : Press the

 Press and hold the “MODE” switch until
you hear a beep and the music will pause
or be muted. By the same operation, the
music will play or un-mute.
Some functions of the audio system

standards.
 This system can play MP3/WMA/AAC files
on USB memory.
 When naming an MP3/WMA/AAC file, add
an appropriate file extension (.mp3/.wma/
.m4a).
 This system plays back files with .mp3/
.wma/.m4a file extensions as MP3/WMA/
AAC files respectively. To prevent noise
and playback errors, use the appropriate
file extension.
 MP3 files are compatible with the ID3 Tag
Ver. 1.0, Ver. 1.1, Ver. 2.2 and Ver. 2.3 for-
mats.
 This system cannot display track title and

matching items are found, a selection
screen will be displayed. Say “<num-

 The system starts playing music and the
audio top screen is displayed.

INFORMATION
The Gracenote database is only com-
patible with the USB or iPod mode.
 A USB memory or iPod must be con-
nected to enable track searching and
playback. ( →P.46, 53)
 When a USB memory or iPod is con-
nected, recognition data is created so
tracks can be searched using voice
commands.
 Recognition data is updated under the
following conditions:
• When the USB memory or iPod data
has changed.
• When the voice recognition language is changed. ( →P. 1 1 2 )
 While the recognition data is being cre-
ated or being updated, a track search
cannot be performed using a voice com-
mand.
VOICE COMMAND EXAMPLE:

INFORMATION
In the same manner as it is displayed on
the screen, “Call <contacts> <phone
types>”, after saying “Call a contact”
say the name, or the name and type of
phone, of a contact. For example: “Call
a contact” , “John Smith” or “Call a
contact” , “Mary Davis” , “Mobile”
 There are 4 types of phones: Home,
Mobile, Work and Other.
 Short or abbreviated names in the con-
tacts list may not be recognized. Change
names in the contacts list to full names.
 Sometimes a voice recognition result
confirmation screen will be displayed.
After confirming the result, say “Yes” or
“No” .
 When the system recognizes multiple
names from the contacts list, a name
candidate list will be displayed on the
screen. If the desired name is not dis-
played on the top of the screen, say or
touch the number of the name from the
candidate list (number 1, number 2, etc.)
to touch a name from the candidate list.
 When a contact has multiple phone
numbers registered in the contacts list, a
candidate list will be displayed. If the
desired phone number is not displayed
on the top of the screen, say or touch
the number of the desired phone num-
ber from the candidate list (number 1,
number 2, etc.) to touch a phone num-
ber from the candidate list.
