Maintenance and care
CAUTION
The motor compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may
move suddenly, become hot, or become electrically energized. To avoid death
or serious injury, observe the following precautions:
■ When working on the motor compartment
● Make sure that the indicator on the power switch and the “READY” indica-
tor are both off.
● Keep hands, clothing and tools away from the moving fan.
● Be careful not to touch the motor, power control unit, radiator, etc. right
after driving as they may be hot. Coolant and other fluids may also be hot.
● Do not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper and rags, in the
motor compartment.
● Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to the 12-volt bat-
tery. 12-volt battery fumes are flammable.
● Be extremely cautious when working on the 12-volt battery. It contains poi-
sonous and corrosive sulfuric acid.
● Never touch, disassemble, remove or replace the high voltage parts,
cables and their connectors. It can cause severe burns or electric shock
that may result in death or serious injury.
■ When working near the electric cooling fan or radiator grille
Be sure the power switch is off.
With the power switch in ON mode, the electric cooling fan may automati-
cally start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature
is high. ( P. 279)
■ Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc.
from getting in your eyes.

Inspecting the charging cable
Check that the electrical leakage detection function operates properly
by following the procedure below.
In the unlikely event that the electrical leakage detection function does
not operate properly, contact your Scion dealer as soon as possible.
Insert the charging cable into t he outlet of the external power
source.
Press the test button on the
CCID (Charging Circuit Inter-
rupting Device).
If the error warning indicator illumi-
nates when the test button is
pressed, the function is operating
correctly.
Press the reset button on the CC ID (Charging Circuit Interrupting
Device).
Check that the error warning indicator turns off. Charging cannot be car-
ried out while the error warning indicator is illuminated.
Charging can be continued by following the normal procedure. If not char\
g-
ing, put away the charging cable.
For safety, inspect the charging cable on a routine basis (at least
once a month).

CAUTION
■Routine inspection
Check the following points regularly.
If use is continued without inspection, fire or electric shock may occur, pos-
sibly resulting in death or serious injury.
● The charging cable, plug, charging connector, CCID (Charging Circuit
Interrupting Device) etc. have not been damaged
● The outlet has not been damaged
● The plug does not get extremely hot during use
● The tip of the plug has not been deformed
● The plug is not dirtied by dust etc.
Inspect the plug after removing it from the outlet.
■ Maintaining the charging cable
When the cable is dirty, first remove the dirt with a hard, wringed cloth, and
then wipe the cable with a dry cloth. Do not wash with water, as doing so
could cause a fire or electrical shock when charging, which could lead to
death or serious injury.
■ When not using th e charging cable for a long time
Remove the plug from the outlet. Dust could accumulate on the plug or in
the outlet, possibly causing overheating which could lead to a fire.
Also, keep the cable in a place free from moisture.

CAUTION
■Pre-driving check
Check that the hood is fully closed and locked.
If the hood is not locked properly, it may open while the vehicle is in motion
and cause an accident, which may result in death or serious injury.
■ When opening the hood
Make sure to use the support rod to support the hood when opening it,
ensuring that the rod is fixed correctly. The hood may stay open without
support on slope, however, it is dangerous because the hood may suddenly
close.
NOTICE
■When closing the hood
Be sure to return the support rod to its clip before closing the hood. Closing
the hood with the support rod up could cause the hood to bend.

● When using a floor jack, follow the instructions of the manual provided with
the jack.
● Do not use the tire jack, which can be purchased at Scion dealer, for any
