If air flow control is not satisfactory, check
the side vents. The side vents may be

The air conditioning filter is behind the
glove box.The air conditioning filter may clog af-
ter long use. The filter may need to be
cleaned or replaced if the air flow of
the air conditioning and heater experi-
ences extreme reductions in operating
efficiency, or if the windows begin to
fog up easily in FRESH mode.
To maintain the air conditioning efficiency,
inspect, clean and replace the air condi-
tioning filter according to the maintenance
schedule. In dusty areas or areas with
heavy traffic flow, such as inner city or
desert areas, more frequent cleaning or
early replacement may be required. (For
scheduled maintenance information, please
refer to the “Scheduled Maintenance
Guide” or “Owner ’s Manual Supplement”.)1. Open the glove box. Remove the
screw with a Phillipshead screw-
driver and slide the hook as shown.

To clean the filter, blow compressed air
through it from the bottom.
Hold the air gun 50 mm (2 in.) from the
filter and blow for approximately 2 minutes
at 500 kPa (5.0 kgf/cm
2 or bar, 72 psi).
If it is not available, have the filter
cleaned by your Toyota dealer.
When installing the filter in the filter
case, keep the “ UP” mark pointing up.
NOTICE
To prevent damage to the air condi-
tioning system, do the following.
 When using the air conditioning
system, make sure that a filter is
always installed.
When cleaning the filter, do not
clean the filter with water.

The following information is displayed
on the multiinformation displays.1. Cruise information
2. Clock
3. Outside temperature When the engine switch is on, the last
previously used mode displayed just be-
fore the engine switch is off will appear.
If the electrical power source has been
disconnected from the multi
−information
display, the display will automatically be
set to the initial mode.
CAUTION
Do not adjust the display while the
vehicle is moving. Be sure to adjust
the display only when the vehicle is
stopped.

The left side display indicates the
cruise information when the engine
switch is in the “ON” position.
Each time you push the “DISP” button
on the steering wheel, the display
toggles through the following informa-
tion.1. Instantaneous fuel consumption
2. Average fuel consumption
3. Driving range
4. Average vehicle speed
5. Elapsed time
The displayed values in the display indi-
cate general driving conditions. Accuracy
varies with driving habits and road condi-
tions. 1. Instantaneous fuel consumption (“MPG” or “L/100 km”)
The instantaneous fuel consumption is
calculated and displayed based on dis-
tance and fuel consumption for 2 sec-
onds with the engine running.
—Cruise information

The displayed value is updated every 2
seconds.
Note that an accurate figure may not be
shown in the following cases.
When the vehicle is stopped with the
engine running, the display will indicate
the extremely high fuel consumption.
When the vehicle is driving down a
long slope, applying the engine brake,
the display will indicate the extremely
low fuel consumption.
The calculation is reset when the engine
switch is turned off. 2. Average fuel consumption (“AVG. MPG” or “AVG. L/100 km”)
Average fuel consumption is calculated
and displayed based on total driving
distance and total fuel consumption
with the engine running.
The displayed value is updated every 10
seconds.
To reset the calculations, push and hold
the “DISP” button for more than 1 second. 3. Driving range
(“RANGE MI” or “RANGE km”)
The distance the vehicle can travel with
the remaining fuel is calculated and
displayed based on the quantity of re-
maining fuel and past fuel consumption.
The driving range display indicates the
approximate distance that you can drive
until the fuel gauge reaches “E”. It is
different from the actual distance traveled.
The displayed value is updated every time
the fuel equivalent for 1 mile or 1 km is
consumed.
Every time you refuel the vehicle, the cal-
culation is reset. However, when only a
small amount of fuel is added to the tank,
the display may not be reset.
The actual driving range varies with driv-
ing habits and road conditions. If fuel con-
sumption is good, the driving range will be
longer. If fuel consumption is poor, the
driving range will be shorter.
If the low fuel level warning light comes
on, refuel even if the display indicates
that the vehicle can be driven further. 4. Average vehicle speed
(“AVG. MPH” or “AVG. km/H”)
Average vehicle speed is calculated and
displayed based on total driving dis-
tance and total driving time with the
engine running.
The displayed value is updated every 10
seconds.
To reset the calculations, push and hold
the “DISP” button for more than 1 second.
5. Elapsed time (“E/T”)
The elapsed time after the engine starts
is displayed.
When the engine is started, driving time
is counted from 0:00. Up to 99:59 (99
hours, 59 minutes) can be displayed.
When the driving time exceeds 99:59, the
counter returns to 0:00.
To reset the calculations, push and hold
the “DISP” button for more than 1 second.

The center display indicates the time
when the engine switch is in the “ACC”
or “ON” position.
To reset the hour: Push the “H” button.
To reset the minutes: Push the “M” button. The right side display indicates the out-
side air temperatures when the engine
switch is in the “ON” position.
The displayed temperature ranges from
−30 C ( −22 F) up to 50 C (122 F).
If an abnormality exists in the connection
of the outside air temperature sensor, “ −−”
will appear on the display. If “ −−” appears
on the display, contact your Toyota dealer.
There may be a case that “−−” appears
momentarily when the ignition is quickly
turned to “ON”. It is normal if it goes out
soon. The direction is indicated on the inside
rear view mirror.
If the engine switch was turned off with
the system on, the system will automati-
cally turn back on when the engine switch
is turned on.
Push the “AUTO” switch for longer than 3
seconds to turn the compass system on
and off.

The compass may not show the correct
direction in the following conditions:
The vehicle is stopped immediately af-
ter turning.
The compass does not adjust while the
vehicle is stopped.
The engine switch is turned off immedi-
ately after turning.
The vehicle is on an inclined surface.
The vehicle is in a place where the
earth’s magnetic field is subject to in-
terference by artificial magnetic fields
(underground parking, under a steel
tower, between buildings, roof parking,
near a crossing, near a large vehicle,
etc.).
The vehicle is magnetized. (There is a
magnet or a metal object on or near
the inside rear view mirror.)
The battery has been disconnected.
If your vehicle is out of the set zone,
refer to the “CALIBRATING THE
COMPASS” below to set the zone number.
If the deviation is small, the compass
works to calibrate the direction automati-
cally while the vehicle is in motion.
For additional precision or for complete
calibrating, see “CALIBRATING THE
COMPASS” below.
The compass sensor is in the inside
rear view mirror.
NOTICE
Do not put magnets or a metal object
on or near the inside rear view mirror
of the vehicle. Doing this may cause
malfunction of the compass sensor.
