If your vehicle is left standing for a long
period of time, note the following:
- The proximity sensor switches off after a
few days to save energy. You then have
to pull once on the door handle to unlock
the vehicle and a second time to open it.
- To prevent the battery from draining and
to retain the starting ability of yo ur vehi­
cle as long as possible, the energy man­
agement system gradua lly tuns off un­
necessary convenience functions You
may not be able to unlock your vehicle
using the convenience key .

the FCC regulations in the United States
and the Industry Canada regulations, re­

Unlocking/locking with the key
In the event that the power locking system
fails, the driver's door can locked and un­
locked using the door lock .

When locking the vehicle with the central
locking switch, the following applies:
- Opening the door and the Luggage compart­
ment lid from the
outside is not possible
(for security such as when stopped at a
light).
- The
LED in the central locking switch turns
on when all doors are closed and locked .
- You can open the doors individually from the
inside by pulling the door handle.
- In the event of a crash with airbag deploy­
ment, the doors unlock automatica lly to al­
low access to the vehicle.
A WARNING
- The power locking switch works with the
ignit ion off and automat ically locks the
entire vehicle when the@! button is
pressed.

- Always remove the ignition key when you
leave your vehicle, even for a short peri­
od of time . This applies particularly when
children remain in the vehicle . Otherw ise
the chi ldren could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equ ipment such as power
windows. The power windows continue
to function unt il the driver's door or
front passenger's door has been opened .
- Pay carefu l attent ion when closing the
window.
It could cause injury by pinch­
ing.
- When locking the veh icle from outs ide,
the vehicle must be unoccupied s ince the
windows can no longer be opened in an eme rgency.
(D Tips
After turning the ignition off you can still
open and close the windows for approxi­
mate ly 10 seconds. The powe r windows
are not switc hed off until the dr iver's door

With the convenience opening/closing func­
tion, you can centrally and easily open the
windows from the outside.

- Never close the w indows carelessly or in
a n uncontrolled manner, because this in­

only be opened with the remote control
key at a ma ximum d istance of approxi­
mate ly 6 fee t (2 meters) from the vehi­
cle.
- Always watch the windows while they are
clos ing using the loc k cylinder so that no

Do not lean against the veh icle when in­
s t all ing the wind deflecto r. H ard objec ts
and decorations on clothing s uch as belt
buckles can scratch the pai nt.
(D Tips
- The wind defle ctor works best when al l
of the windows are ro lled up wh ile driv ­
ing.
- Only store the wind deflector in the stor ­
age bag* when it is dry.

Power top emergency
operation
General information
The power top can be closed manually if there
is a malfun ction.
... Set the park ing brake.
... Open a ll wi ndows.
... Switch the ignit ion off .
... Pull the but ton @ for app rox ima tely 10 to
15 seconds to reduce the pressure in the
power top hydraulics ¢

Only close the power top manually in an emer­
gency . Have a second person assist. Drive to
an a uthorized Audi dea ler or a uthorized Audi
Service Facility immediately to have the ma l­
function corrected.
A WARNING
- There is a r isk of pinching the hands or
other peop le during all of the power top
emergency operation steps.
- Make sure all windows are lowe red d ur­
ing eme rgency ope ration .
- Do no t rea ch into t he power top sup­
po rts or other mov ing components .
- Never d rive when the powe r top is not
loc ked correctly. The w ind from dr iving
could cause the power top to open. This
can result in injuries and damage to the
vehicle.
(D Tips
The powe r top storage compartmen t cover
i s not latched afte r the emergency opera ­
tion is complete . Drive to an a uthorized
A udi dealer or authorized A udi Service Fa­
cility immediately to have the malfunct ion

Otherwise, the power top storage com­

- When raising the power top compart­ ment cover, avoid contact with the sup­
ports or other moving parts. Otherwise
you could pinch your hands.

cle movement. Spilled hot liquid can also
increase the risk of accidents and inju­
ries .
- Only use soft conta iners in the cup hold­
ers. Hard cups and glasses can increase
the risk of injury during a coll is ion.
- Never use the cup holder or the adapter
as an ashtray- this is a fire hazard .

Make sure your beverage container has a
lid. If not, your beverage could spill and
cause damage to vehicle equipment or
stain the seat covers.

• To open the glove compartment, pu ll the
hand le in the direction of the arrow.
• To close the glove compartment, swing the
lid upward until it clicks into place .
The glove compartment can be locked us ing
the vehicle key .

Always leave the lid on the glove compart­
ment cover closed while driving to reduce
the risk of injury.
Additional storage compartments
T here are additional storage compartments,
compartments and holders at other locations
in the vehicle:

- In the upper part of the g love compart­

- In the center conso le under the center arm­

- On the back of the right front seat. The com­ partment" can hold a max imum weight of
2 lbs (1 kg).

- Do not place any objects on the instru­
ment panel. Objects that are not stored
securely can slide around in the vehicle
while driving, when accelerating or brak ­
ing or when turning .
- Make sure that objects cannot fall out of
the center console storage compartment
or other compartments and into the
footwell while dr iving . These objects
could prevent you from b ra ki ng o r accel­
erating d uring sudden b raking mane u­
vers.
- Always keep the g love compartment
closed while driv ing to reduce the risk of
injury during a collision or heavy braking.
- Read and following the WARNINGS in
~ page 167, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.

Increasing the size of the luggage
compartment
The rear seat backrests can be folded forward
either separately or together.

T here is a release lever on each of the side
panels in the luggage compartment to release
both rea r seat backres ts.
Folding the b ackre st forward
• Pull the release lever for the backrest in the
direction of the arrow. The backrest w ill fold
forward automat ically after it is released

A WARNING
-W hen releasing the rear se at backrest,
make sure t here are no peop le or animals
wit hin its range of motion. The backrest
will fold forward automatically after it is

- The backrest m ust be securely latched so
objects cannot s lide forward out of the
luggage compartment during sudden
brak ing.
- Always make sure the backrest is latched
completely by pul ling forward on it.
- Make sure the safety be lt is not caught in
the door hinges or the seat fittings and

-Torn or frayed safety belts can break, and
belt anchors can break dur ing a coll is ion.
Check the safety belts regularly. Safety
belts w ith noticeable damage to the
webbing, bind ings, buckles or retractors
must be replaced.

- If you
move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
could damage the head restra ints on the
rear seat. If necessary, remove the rear
seat head restraint before mov ing the
front seat back
- Make sure the safety belt is not pinched
in the backrest lock and damaged when
the rea r seat backrest if fo lded back.
Other objects should be
r emoved from
the rear bench seat to protect the rear backrest from damage .

Due to the laws of physics, even small objects
that are loose in the vehicle can become heavy
projectiles and cause serious injuries during a
coll is ion. Objects in the ve hicle increase in ki­
netic energy, which varies depending on the
vehicle and the we ight of the object. The vehi­
cle speed is the most important factor in this .
Example: In a frontal impact at a speed of
30 mph (48 km/h), the weight of a 10 lb (5 kg) object increases to approximately

20 times its normal weight due to the forces
acting upon it. This means the weight of the
object is suddenly equivalent to approximate ­
ly 200 lb (90 kg). It is easy to imagine the
type of injuries an object of that weight could
cause if it slides through the passenger com­ partment unrestrained during a collision at a
relat ively low speed.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or faulty straps used to
secure objec ts to the tie-downs can fail
during heavy braking or a co llision and
l ead to serious injuries.
-A lways use s uitable straps and secure
objects to the tie -downs in the luggage
compartment to prevent objects from
shifting and sliding forward .
- Never secure a child seat restraint to a tie -down .
- Because of their load capaci ty, the hooks
should only be used to secure ob jects
that weig h a maximum of 10 lb
(5 kg).
Heavy objects wilt not be secured suffi­
ciently, and this increases the risk of in­
jury.

Electromechanical
parking brake
Operating
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

Your veh icle is eq uipped with an electrome­
chanical parking brake. The parking brake is
designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling unintentionally and replaces the hand brake.
I n addition to the normal functions of a tradi­
tional hand brake, the electromechanical parking brake provides various convenience
and safety functions.
When starting from a stop
- T he integral hill start assist helps you when
dr iving by automatically releasing the park­
ing brake ~
page 83, Starting from a
stop .
-When starting on inclines, the hill start as­
sist prevents the vehicle from unintentional­
l y rolling back. The braking force of the
parking brake is not released until sufficient driving force has been built up at the
wheels.
Emergency brake function
An emergency braking functions ensu res that
the vehicle can be slowed down even if the
normal brakes fail~ page 84, Emergency
braking function.
_.&. WARNING
- Do not press the accelerator pedal inad­
vertently when the vehicle is stationary
and the engine is running and a gear is
selected. Otherwise the vehicle will start
to move immediately and could result in
a crash .
- If the power supply fails, the released
parking brake can no longer engage . In
this case, park the vehicle on leve l
g round and secure it by placing these­
lecto r lever in the P position. See an au­
thorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility for assistance.
(D Note
If the. or. (USA models) I. (Cana­
da models) indicator light in the instru­
ment cluster blinks, there is a malfunction
