brake fluid level in the reservoir is too low,

EPC Engine control (gasoline engine)
Applies to: veh icles with gasoline engines
If the ~ indicator light turns on if there is a
malfunction in the engine control.
Instruments and indicator lights
Drive slowly to an authorized Audi dea ler or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility to have the engine
checked .
If the~ indicator light turns on when you start
the engine, there is an automatic start malfunc­
tion. To start the engine, fo llow these steps:

a System indicator light (MIL)
The system indicator light (MIL) is pa rt of the On
Board Diagnostic system (OBD II) . The
II! sym­
bol turns on when the ignition is switched on and
turns off again once the engine is started and
running at a steady idle speed. This indicates that
the MIL is functioning correctly .
The indicator light turns on if there is a malfunc­
t ion in the engine electronics . See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility to
have the malfunction corrected.
The system indicator light (MIL) may turn on if
the fuel filler cap is not closed correctly
¢ page 186.

!? Engine speed limitation
Applies to : vehicles with engine speed limitation
(II Max . engine speed: XXXX rpm
The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the driver information system.
This protects the engine from overheating.
T he eng ine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have re leased the accelerator ped ­
al once.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the~ indicato r
light also turns on . Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam-
ple when downshifting. Drive to an authorized .,.

Power top
-Be careful when installing so you do not
pinch your fingers.
- Pay attention to the traffic when installing
the wind def lector. Install the w ind deflec­
tor from the s ide of the vehicle that is away
from traffic.
(D Note
Do not lean against the veh icle when instal­
ling the wind deflector. Hard objects and dec­
orations on clothing such as belt buckles can
scratch the pa int.
{!) Tips
- The wind deflector works best when a ll of
the w indows are rolled up wh ile driving.
- Only store the wind deflector in the storage
bag* when it is dry.
Power top emergency
operation
General information
The power top con be closed manually if there is
o malfunction.
• Set the parking brake.
• Open all windows.
• Switch the ignition off.
• Pull the button@ for approximately 10 to
15 seconds to reduce th e pressure in the power
top hydraulics ¢
page 36, fig. 25.
Only close the power top m anually in an eme r­
gency . Have a second person assist . Drive to an
author ized Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service
Facility immediately to have the malfunction cor­
rected.
A WARNING
- There is a r isk of pinching the hands or othe r
people during all of the power top emergen­
cy operat ion steps.
- Make sure a ll windows are lowered during
emergency ope ration.
- Do not reach into the power top suppor ts
or other moving components .

-Never drive when the power top is not
locked correct ly. The wind from driving
could cause the power top to open. This can
result in injur ies and damage to the vehicle .
{!) Tips
The power top storage compartment cover is
not latched after the emergency operation is
complete. Dr ive to an authorized Audi dealer
or authorized Audi Service Facility immediate­
l y to have the malfu nction corrected.

• Open the luggage compartment lid.
• Fold the rear seat backrests forward.
• Remove the wheel wrench from the vehicle tool
kit.
• Close the luggage compartment lid .
• Pull the release loop down from the rear to re­
lease the power top storage compartment cov­
er

• Slide the covers on both sides of the veh icle in
the direction of the arrow until they lock in
place

Lights and Vision
When switched on, adaptive light adjusts to
curves depending on the vehicle speed and steer­
ing wheel angle. This provides better lighting
through the curve. The system operates in a
speed range from approximately 6 mph (10 km/
h) to 68 mph (110 km/h) .
Static cornering light* -the cornering light
switches on automatically when the steering
wheel is turned at a ce rtain angle at speeds up to
approximately 44 mph (70 km/h) and when the
turn signal is activated at speeds up to approxi­
mately 25 mph (40 km/h) . The area to the side of
the vehicle is illuminated better when turning.
Speed dependent light distribution* -The speed
dependent light distribution adapts the light in
towns and on highways or expressways . Intersec­
tions can also be illuminated on vehicles with a
navigation system* .
Highway light function*
This function adapts the lighting for highway
driving based on vehicle speed .
A WARNING
-Automatic headlights* are only intended to
assist the driver. They do not relieve the
driver of responsibility to check the head­
lights and to turn them on manually accord­
ing to the current light and visibility condi­
tions. For example, fog cannot be detected by the light sensors . So always switch on the
low beam under these weather conditions
and when driving in the dark ~D.
- Accidents could occur if you can not see the road ahead of you well and if others on the
road cannot see you . Always switch your
headlights on so that you can see the road
ahead of you and others can see your vehicle
from behind.
- The rear fog lights should only be turned on
in accordance with traffic regulations, to
prevent glare for traffic behind your vehicle.
-If the battery has been discharging for a
while, the parking light may switch off auto­
matically. Always make sure your vehicle is
parked and adequately lit according to the

laws. Avoid using the parking lights for sev­
eral hours.
- Please observe legal regulations when using
the lighting systems described.
(D Tips
- The light sensor for the automatic head­
lights* is in the rearview mirror mount.
Therefore , do not place any stickers in this
area on the windshield.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be ad­
justed

- If you turn off the ignition while the exterior lights are on and open the door, you will
hear a warning tone.
- In some market-specific versions, the tail
lights do not turn on when switching on the
daytime running lights .
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside. They will
clear shortly after switching them on . This
does not affect the service life of the light­
ing.

The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake .

Your veh icle is equipped with an e lectromechani ­
cal parki ng b rake. The park ing brake is designed

to prevent the vehicle from ro lling unintent ional­
ly and replaces the hand brake.
In add ition to the normal f unctions of a trad i­
t iona l hand b rake, the elec tromechanical parking
brake provides va rious convenience and safety
functions .
When starting from a stop
- The integral hill start assist he lps yo u when
driving by automa tically re leas ing the pa rking
brake

- When starting on inclines, the h ill sta rt assist
p revents the veh icle from un in tentionally ro ll­
ing back . The braking force of the parking brake
is not re leased unt il sufficient dr iving force has
been b uilt up at the whee ls.
Emergency brake function
An emergency bra kin g f unction ensures that the
vehicle can be slowed down even if the
normal
brakes fail c> page 75, Emergency braking
function .
A WARNING
---=---Do not press the acce le rator pedal inadver­
tently when the vehicle is stat ionary and the
engine is running a nd a gear is selected.
Othe rw ise the vehicle will start to move im­
mediately and could result in a crash.
- If the power supply fails, the re leased park­
ing b rake can no longer engage . In this
case, park the vehicle on level ground and

-If the parking brake is set while the ignition

e ls) will turn off after a certain amount of
time.
- If dr iver's door is opened while the ign ition
i s sw itched on, the pa rking brake sets a uto­
ma tically. T his prevents unin tended ro lling
of the vehicle.
- Occasiona l noises when the parking brake is
set and re leased a re no rmal a nd a re not a
cause for con cer n.
- When the vehicle is par ked, the park ing
b rake goes thro ugh a se lf-test cycle at reg u­
l a r int erva ls. A ny no is es asso ciated with th is
a re normal.
- If t here is a power fa ilure, the p arking bra ke
will not se t if i t is re le a se d, and it will not

Parking
~ Press the brake pedal to stop the vehicle.
~ Pull the (D switch to set the park ing brake

~ Place the selector lever in the P pos ition.
~ Turn the eng ine off ¢&_ .
~ Turn the steering whee l when pa rking on in­
clin es so that the whee ls will roll into the curb
if the ve hicle starts mov ing .
A WARNING
-Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even fo r a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chi l­
dren rema in in the veh icle . Otherwise ch il­
dren could start the engine, release the
par kin g brake or operate elect rical eq uip­
me nt such as powe r windows, which in­
c reases the ris k of an acc ident.
- When the vehicle is locked, no one -particu­
larly not children -sho uld rem ain i n the ve­
hicle. Loc ked doors ma ke it more diffic ult

Starting from a stop
The start assist function ensures that the park ­
ing broke is released automatically upon start­
ing.

Starting and automatically releasing the
parking brake
Require ment: the d river 's doo r mus t be closed
and the driver 's sa fe ty belt must be fastened.
~ When you press the acce lerato r pedal, the
parking bra ke is a utomat ica lly re leased and
your veh icle begi ns to move.
When stopp ing at a traff ic signa l or stopping in
c ity traff ic, the par king b rake can be applied . The
vehicle does no t have to be held wi th the brake
pedal. The par king bra ke elim inates the ten dency
to creep when a se lector lever posi tion is engag ­
ed. As soon as you p ress the accelerator pedal,
the parking brake releases a utomat ica lly and the
vehicle starts to move.
Starting on slopes
When star ting on in cli nes, the hill start assist
prevents the vehicle from unintentiona lly rolling
b ack . The b raking force of t he parking brake is
not re leased unti l sufficient dr iv ing force has
been built up at the wheels.
@ Tips
F o r safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
l eased a utomatica lly on ly when the driver 's
safety be lt is fastened and the driver's door is
l ocked.
