CJ) Note
- If there is frost, make sure the windshie ld
wiper blades are not frozen to the wind­
sh ield. Switching on the windshield wipers
when the blades are frozen to the wind­
shield can damage the wiper blades.
- The windshield wiper system must be
switched off (lever in position @) before
us­
ing a car wash. This prevents the wipers
from sw itching on unintentionally and caus­
i ng damage to the w indshield wiper system.
(D Tips
- The windshield wipers switch off when the
ignition is switched off. You can act ivate the
windsh ield wipers after the ign ition is
switched back on by moving the windsh ield
wiper lever to any pos it ion.
- Wo rn o r dirty windshield wipe r blades result
i n streak ing. This can affect the ra in sensor
fun ct ion . Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly .
- The washer fluid nozzles in the w indshield
washer system are heated* at low tempera ­
tures when the ignition is on.
- When stopp ing temporarily, such as at a
traffic light, the speed of the windshie ld
wipers automatically reduces by one leve l.
Cleaning the wiper blades
Clean the wiper blades when you see wiper
streaks. Use a soft cloth and a glass cleaner .

Warm and cold
driver is transferred to the front passenger's
side . This applies a t emperature change to the
front passenger's side .
8/r Blower
Using the regulator 8£?, you can manually adjust
the volume of air generated by the blower to your
p reference . The blower shou ld always run at a
low setting to prevent the windows from fogging
and to ensure a continuous exchange of air inside
the vehicle . To have the blower regulated auto­
mat ically , press the AUTO button.
~/ :,0/ ~ Air distribution
The air distribution can adjusted with the but­
tons. To have the air distribution regulated auto­ mat ically, press the AUTO button.
The round air vents in the cockpit are adjustable
qpage 73.
To keep the front s ide windows from fogging up
in damp weathe r, we recommend opening the
side air vents and tilting them to the side .
Foot vents are located under the front seats and
adjustable vents on the end of the center console
to heat the rear of the vehicle .
::!_ Defrosting
The windsh ield and s ide windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as qu ickly as possible .
The max imum amount of air flows ma inly from
the vents below the windshield. Recirculation
mode switches off. The temperature shou ld be
set at +72°F (22°() o r higher. The temperature is
controlled automatica lly. In the
;Ix setting, the
A/C cooling mode switches on automatically , d e­
pending on the outside air temperature.
The AUTO button switches the defroster off.
cE) Recirculation mode
The recirculation mode can be turned on manua l­
ly or automatically*.
- Switching manual recirculation mode on and
off: Press

- Automatic * reci rculation mode: auto recircula ­
tion needs to be activated in the Infotainment
system. Select in the Infotainment system:

Air conditioning > Auto recirculation
The air
quality sensor that is designed for diesel and
gasoline exhaust automatically sw itches the re­
circulation mode on or off depending on the
level of pollutants in the outside air.
In rec irculat ion mode, the air inside the vehicle is
c ir culated and filtered. This prevents the unfil­
tered air outs ide the veh icle from entering the
vehicle inte rior. Switching rec irculation mode on
whe n driving through a tunnel or when sitting in
traffic is recommended

Pressing the~ button, AUTO or the ;fx button
switches recircula tion mode off.
T he system switches to recirculation mode when
driv ing in reverse when the engine is cold .
SP. Rear window defogger
If the rear window defogger is activated when
the igni tion is switched on, the battery manage­
ment determines based on the battery charge if
i t is possible to turn on . Otherwise, the rear w in ­
dow defogger functions with the engine running
and switches off automatically after approxi­
mately 10 -20 minutes, depending on the out­
side temperature .
To prevent the rear window defogger from
switching off automat ica lly, press and hold the
!fP. button for more than two seconds. This re­
mains stored up to approximate ly 15 minutes af­
te r turning off the ignition.
J Seat heating*
Pressing the J button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest setting (level 3) . The LEDs indi­
cate the temperat ure level. To reduce the tem­
perature , press the button again. T o switc h the
seat heating off, press the button repeatedly un­
ti l the LED turns off .
After approximately 10 minutes, the seat heating
a utomat ically switches from level 3 to level 2.

Which functions can be contr oll ed?
When you sw itch adaptive cruise control on, you
can set the current speed as the "control speed"

When driving, you can stop cruise co ntro l

General information

The funct ion of the adaptive cruise contro l sys­
tem or pre sense fron t is l imited in some cond i­
tions :
- Vehicles can only be detected when they are
within the senso r
range¢ page 126, fig . 128 .
- The system has a limited abil ity to detect
vehicles that are a short distance ahead, off to
t h e side of your vehicle or moving into your
lane .
- Objects that are difficu lt to detect such as mo­
torcycles, vehicles with high ground clearance
or an overhanging load are detected late or not detected at all .
- When driving through curves

A WARNING
Always pay attention to the traffic around you
when adaptive cruise control is switched on.
As the driver , you are still responsible for your
own speed and the d istance to other veh icles .
The adaptive cruise control is used to ass ist
you . The driver m ust always take action to
avo id a co llision . The d river is always responsi­
b le for b raking at the co rrect t ime.
- For safety reasons, do not use adaptive
cru ise control when driving on roads with
many cu rves , when the road s urface is in
poor conditio n and/or in bad wea ther (such
as ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hyd roplan ­
ing) . Using the system under these condi­
tions could result in a co llision.
- Sw itch adaptive cruise control off tempora ­
rily when driving in turning lanes, on ex­ pressway ex its or in construction zones . This
prevents the veh icle from acce lerating to
the stored speed when i n these situat ions.
- The adaptive cruise contro l system will not
brake by itself if you put you r foot on the ac­
celerator pedal. Doing so can override the
speed and d istance regulat ion .
- Adapt ive cruise control does not respond to
peop le, animals, or crossing or oncoming
objects .
- The funct ion of the radar sensors can be af­
fected by reflective objects such as gua rd
rails, the en trance to a t unnel, heavy rain or
ice .

The sensor can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and underbody. This can impair the adaptive
cruise control. Have an authorized A udi dealer

Within t he limits of the system, the pre sense
f unct ions can initiate measures in pa rtic ularly
dange rous situations to protect the vehicle pas-
sengers and other road users.

Assistance systems
-Due to the interlinking of various vehicle sys­
tems, critica l driving situations can be detected
by
pre sense basic and measures for preventa­
tive occupant protection are can be initiated.
-The pre sense front uses the data from the ra­
dar sensors and calcu lates the probability of an
accident
c> page 127. An impending collision
with vehicles can be detected within the limits
of the system . In this case, the system warns
the driver visually, acoustically and with a jerk
on the brakes if necessary. If needed, it can i ni­
tiate a partia l or full dece le rat ion to reduce the
collision speed o r to avoid the coll ision unde r
ce rtain c ircumstances. In conjunction with pre
sense basic, the front safety belts are also re­
versib ly tensioned when needed . The pre sense
front is also active when adaptive cruise con­
trol* is sw itched off.

(i) Tips
-Certain pre sense functions switch off when
driving in reverse.
-The pre sense functions may not be availa­ ble if there is a malfunction in the ESC sys­
tem or the airbag contro l module.
-Note that the reversible belt tensioner on
the front passenger's side deactivates when
the front passenger's a irbag is deactivated .
-Switch the pre sense off when you are not
us ing public streets or when loading the ve­
hicle onto a vehicle carr ier, train, ship or
other type of transportation. This can pre­
vent an undes ired intervention from the pre
sense system.
Audi pre sense basic
Description
Applies to: veh icles with Audi pre sense basic
The pre sense basic funct ions are activated at a
speed of approximately 20 mph (30 km/h) or h igher.

functions can be triggered under
certain conditions within the limits of the sys ­
tem:
-Tensioning of the safety bel ts (for examp le,
during heavy braking): the front safety belts
have reversib le be lt tensioners. If a collision
does not occur, the safety belts loosen slightly
and are ready to trigger aga in.
-Initiating the closing of the windows and the
panorama glass roof* (for examp le when un­
der- or oversteering).
Audi drive select* : the trigger times are adjusted
depending on the mode selected.
Audi pre sense front
· Description
Applies to: vehicles with Audi pre sense front
Within the limits of the system and depending
on the situation and speed, pre sense front can
warn you about impending collisions with sta­
tionary, stopped, and moving vehicles and ini ­
tiate appropriate braking measures.
If detection is not possib le, then pre sense front
does not react.
The following func tions trigger in conjunction
with pre sense basic at corresponding vehicle
speeds :
-Reversible tens ion ing of the front safety belts.
-Closing the windows and panorama glass roof*.

The system can prov ide v is u al and aud ible warn­
ings when dangerous situations are detected.
The
earl y wa rning may occur if:
- a vehicle d riving ahead brakes strongly,
- your vehicle is traveling at speeds between ap-
prox imately 20 to 50 mph (30 to 85 km/h) and
it approaches a stationary veh icle.
- your vehicle is trave ling at speeds between ap­
prox imately 20 to 155 mph (30 to 250 km/h)
and it approaches a vehicle that is clearly t rav­
eling more slowly o r a veh icle in your direction
of travel that is stopped.
When t his warning occurs, it may on ly be poss i­
b le to avoid a collision by swerv ing or b raking
strong ly. The message

about the danger .
If there is an impending collision with vehicles,
there will a lso be an
acute warning in the form of
sharp braking. If you do not react to the acute
warn ing, pre sense front can brake with increas ­
ing force within the limits of the system. This re­
duces the vehicle speed in the event of a coll i­
sion.
Automatic d ecel erati on
Depending on the speed , pre sense front can de­
c elerate automat ically
shortly before a collision:
- i f there are s tat ionary vehicles whe n you are
traveling at speeds up to approximately 28 mph (45 km/h).
- if there are vehicles driving or stopped ahead
when you are traveling at speeds up to approxi ­
mately 155 mph (250 km/h) .
Automatic braking force inc rease
I f pre sense front determines that you are no t
b raking st rongly enough when a collision is imm i­
nent, it can increase the b raking force, depending
on the situation and speed.
- i f there are stationary vehicles whe n you are
t raveling at speeds up to approximately 50
mph (85 km/h) .
A ss ista nce sys te m s
- if there are vehicles d riving or stopped ahead
when you are traveling at speeds up to approxi­ mate ly 155 mph (250 km/h).
A WARNING "--
Pre sense front cannot overcome the laws of
physics. It is a system designed to ass ist and
i t cannot prevent a collision in every c ircum­
stance. The driver must always intervene. The
d river is always respons ible for braking at the
cor rect time. Do not let the increased safety
p rovided tempt you into ta king risks. This
could increase your risk of a collis ion .
- Keep in mind th at pre sense front can pro ­
vide warn ings or b rake unexpected ly. Al­
ways secure any cargo or objects that yo u
are transporting to reduce the risk of dam­
age or injury.
- The system can dep loy incorrectly due to
system-specific limits.
- Please note that the sensor does not a lways
detect a ll objects . T hi s increases the risk of
a co llision.
- Pre sense front does not react to vehicles traveling toward you in the same lane, to peop le, groups of people, anima ls, objects
that are crossing the road, or objects that are difficult to

This message appears if the pre sense functions
are switched off through the Infotainment sys­
tem or if the system is not ready.
Audi active lane assist
Description
Applies to: vehicles with Audi active lane assist
Active lane assist (lane departure warning) de­
tects lane marker lines within the limits of the
system using a camera in the windshield. If you
are approaching a detected lane marker line and
it appears likely that you will leave the lane, the
system will warn you with corrective steering.
You can override this steering at any time. If you pass over a line, the steering wheel will vibrate
lightly. In order for this warning vibration to oc­
cur, it must first be switched on in the Infotain­
ment system. Active lane assist is ready for oper­
ation when the lane marker line is detected on at
least one side of the vehicle.
The system is designed for driving on express­
ways and highways and therefore only activates
at speeds above approximately 40 mph (65 km/
h).
Applies to: vehicles with Audi side assist
If you activate a turn signal when active lane as­
sist is ready and it classifies a lane change as crit­
ical because of vehicles traveling alongside you or
approaching you, there will be noticeable

your blind spot and traffic behind yo ur vehicle .
Within the limits of the system, it warns you
about vehicles that are com ing closer or that are
traveling with you within sensor range

The display in the left exterior mirror provides as­
s istance when making a lane change to the left,
while the display in the right exterio r mir ror pro­
vides assistan ce when making a lane change to

Information stage
As long as you do not activate the tu rn signal,
side assist
informs yo u about vehicles that are
detected and classified as critical. The display in
the mirror turns on, but is dim .
The display remains dim in the information stage
so that your view toward the front is not distur­
bed.
Warning stage
If the display in a mirror blinks brightly when you
activate a turn signal, side assist is
warning you
about detected vehicles that it has classified as
critical. If this happens, check traff ic by glancing
in the exterior m irrors and over your shoulder
¢ & in General information on page 141 .
Applies to: vehicles with Audi act ive lane ass ist
The display in the mirror can also blink if you
have not activated a turn signal: if you are ap ­
proaching a detected lane marker line and it ap­
pears you will be leaving the lane, side assist w ill

@Approaching vehicles
In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
critical for a lane change even i f it is still some ­
what far away. The faster a vehicle approaches,

the sooner the display in the exterior mirror will
turn on .
@Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling with you are indicated in the
exter ior mirror if they are classified as critical for
a lan e change . All vehicles detected by side assist
are indicated by the time they enter your "blind
spot", at the latest .
@ Vehicles you are passing
If you slow ly pass a vehi cle that side assist has
detected (the differe nce in speed between the
vehicle and your vehicle is less than approximate­
l y 9 mph (15 km/h)), the disp lay in the exterior
mirror turns on as soon as the vehicle enters your
blind spot.
The display wi ll not turn on if you quickly pass a
vehicle that side assist has detected (the differ­ ence in speed is greater than approximate ly 9
mph (15 km/h)) .
Functional limitations
The radar sensors are designed to detect the lef t
and right adjacent lanes when the road lanes are
the normal width . In some situations, the display
in the exterior m irror may turn on even though
there is no vehicle located in the area that is criti­
ca l for a lane change. For example:
- If the lanes are narrow or if your
are dr ivin g on
the edge of your lane. If this is the case, the
system may have detected a vehicle in another
lane that is
not adjacent to your cur rent lane.
- If you are driving through a curve. Side ass ist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane over
from the adjacent lane.
- If side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or displaced guard ra ils).
- In poor weather conditions. The side ass ist
functions are limited.
Do not cover the radar
sensors ¢ fig. 147 with

- Always pay attention to traffic and to the
area around your vehicle. Side assist cannot
replace a dr iver's attention. The dr iver alone
is always responsible for lane changes and
similar driving maneuvers.
- In some situat ions, the system may not
function or its funct io n may be limited. For
example:
- If vehicles are approaching or being left
behind very quickly. The display may not
turn on in time.
- In poor weather conditions such as heavy
rain, snow or heavy mist.
- On very wide lanes, in tight curves, or if
there is a rise in the road surface. Vehicles
in the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they are outside of the sensor
range.

The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. Th is can impa ir the system. Have
an authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Serv ice Facility check their function .
(Di Tips
If the window glass in the driver's door or
front passenger's door has been tinted, the
disp lay in the exterior mirror may be incor­
rect.

terior mirrors will turn on briefly when the ign i­
tion is sw itched on .

Setting the display brightness

The display brightness can be adjusted in the In­
fotainment system .

> Audi side assist .
The display brightness adjusts automatically to
the brightness of the surroundings, both in the
information and in the warning stage. In very
dark or very bright surround ings, the automatic
adjustment will set the display to the minimum
or max imum level. In such cases, you may notice
no change when adjusting the brightness, or the
change may only be noticeab le once the sur­
roundings change.
Adjust the br ightness to a level where the display
in the information stage will not disrupt yo ur
view ahead. If you change the brightness, the dis­
play in the exterior mirror will briefly show the
brightness level in the information stage. The
brightness of the warning stage is linked to the
brightness in the information stage and is adjust­
ed along with the information stage.
Q') Tips
- Side ass ist is not act ive while you are mak­
ing the adjustment.
- Your settings are automatically stored and
assigned to the remote control key being
used.
