You can use the multifunction steering wheel
plus to operate the driver information system
and the
MMI functions, adjust the volume and
switch the voice recognition system on and off.

Cockpit over view
The short -term memory collects driving informa­
tion from the time the ignition is switched on un­
til it is switched off . If you cont inue driv ing with­
in two hours after switching the ignition off, the
new values are included when calculat ing the cur­
rent tr ip informat ion.
Unlike the short-term memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automat ically. You can se­
lect the time period for evaluat ing trip informa­
tion yourself .
Fuel con sumpti on
The current fue l consumption can be shown us­
ing a bar graph
cc> fig. 14. The average cons ump­
tion stored in the short-term memory is also dis­
played. If the bars are green or the gray tone on
the bars changes (depending on the equipment),
your veh icle is sav ing fuel by the following func­
tion:
- Recupe ration : electrical energy can be stored in
the ve hicle battery when the vehicle is coasting
o r driving downhi ll. The bar will move toward
0 /0.

is listed in the first tab (on-board comp ute r) . The

Aud i Service Faci lity immediately . Because the ve­
h icle battery is discharg ing , turn off all unneces ­

Service Facility if the battery charge level is too
l ow .

The start ing ability may be impaired .

tor light sti ll turns on, turn the engine off and
do not continue driving. See an authori zed Audi
dealer or au thor ized Audi Service Facility for as­
s istance.

The oil pressure warning is not an o il level in­
dicator. Always check the oil level regularly.

Opening and clo sin g
Applies to: all road
You can open and close the luggage compart­
ment lid with foot motion activation .
Requirements: you must be carrying your vehicle
key with you. You must be standing at the center
behind the luggage compartment lid. You shou ld
be approximately 8 in (20 cm) from the rea r of
the vehicle . The ign ition must be switched off.
Make sure you have firm footing.
- Move your foot back and forth be low the bump­
er ~ fig. 35 . Do not touch the bumper. The lug­
gage compartment lid will open/close once the
system detects the movement.
The luggage compartment lid will only open/ close if you perfo rm the movement as described.
This prevents the luggage compartment lid from
ope ning o r closing due to simi lar movements,
such as when you walk between the rear of the
vehicle and your garage door.
The closing of the luggage compartment lid is in­
d icated by a warning signal and can be cance led
by making the described movement again.
The foot movement does not loc k the vehicle.
General inform ation
In some situations, the function may be limited
or temporar ily unava ilable . This may happen if:
- the luggage compartment lid was closed imme­
diately before
- you park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the vehicle for a
long period of time
-you clean your vehicle, for example with a pres­ sure washer or in a car wash
- there is heavy rain
-the bumper is very dirty, for example after driv-
ing on salt-covered roads
-there is interfe rence to the radio signa l from
the vehicle key, such as from cell phones or re­
mote controls
A WARNING
-Pay careful attention when closing the lug­
gage compartment lid. Otherw ise, you could

cause serious injury to yourse lf or others de­
spite the pinch protection.
- To reduce the risk of pinching injuries, a l­
ways make sure that no one is in the operat­
ing area of the luggage compartment lid; in­
cluding the hinge areas and the upper and
lower edge of the luggage compartment lid .
- Never drive with the luggage compartment
lid ajar or open, because poisono us gases
can enter the vehicle interior and create the
risk of asphyx iat ion.
- Ap plies to: allroa d: If there is a luggage rack
(such as a bicycle rack) on the luggage com­
partment lid, the luggage compar tment lid
may not open completely under certain cir­
cumstances, o r it co uld close by itself if
open due to the extra weight. To reduce t he
risk of injury, the open luggage compart­
ment lid must therefore have additional
support or the cargo must f irst be removed
from the rack.
Trunk escape latch
Appl ies to : vehicles with trunk escape latc h
In case of on emergency, the rear lid con be
opened from the inside using the trunk escape
latch.

Idling current management
The idling c urrent management dec reases the
energy used w hile pa rked. With the engine
sw itched off, it manages the energy distribution
to the different elect rical components . Data from
the battery diagnosis is taken into account for
this .
Depending on the vehicle battery charge level,
e lectrical equipment is switched off one item af­
ter the other to prevent the vehicle battery from
draining and to maintain the starting ability.
Dynamic energy manag em ent
W hil e driving, dynamic energy management dis ­
tr ibutes the appropriate amount of energy to the
electrical equipment. It controls the battery
charge level so that the amount of energy is not
greater than the amount being generated in or­
der to mai nta in a n optimal vehicle battery charge
level.

- Energy management cannot overcome the
l aws of phys ics . Note that the charge leve l
and leng th of the vehicle battery life a re
li mi ted .

What you should know
Maintaining the starting ability is the highest
priority.
A lot of stress is placed on the vehicle battery
when dr iv ing short d istances, dur ing c ity dr iv ing,
and at cold times of the year . A lot of energy is
used but little is gene rated . It is a lso cri tical
wh en the engine is not runn ing but e lectr ica l
e qui pment is swi tc h ed o n. In this case, energy is
u sed bu t none is ge nera te d.
In s ituatio ns l ike this, energy management will
actively regu late the d ist ribu tion of ene rgy.
Long pe riods without use
If you do not drive your vehicle for several days or
weeks, electrica l equipment is gradually scaled
back or swi tched off . This reduces energy use and

the vehicle will be ab le to s tart a fter long
periods of time. Some conven ience f unctions,
such as interior lig hting or power seat ad just ­
ment, may not be avai lab le under ce rtain circum­
stances. These conven ience functions will be
available again once you switch the ignit ion on
and sta rt the eng ine.
With the engine switched off
The vehicle battery will drain if you use Infotain ­
ment functions such as listening to the radio
whi le the engine is switched off.
If the vehicle's ability to start may be impaired by
the energy use, a message will appear i n the In­
fota inment system display. The message indi­
cates that the system will switc h off automatical­
l y soon. If yo u wou ld like to continue using the
funct io ns, you must s tart the engine .
With the engine running
Although electr ica l energy is generated w hile
driv ing, the veh icle battery can d ra in. This can
happe n if litt le ene rgy is generated but much is
used, and the charge level of the vehicle battery
is not optimal.
To resto re t he ba lance of energy, components
that require large amounts of energy are tempo­ rarily scaled back or sw itched off. Heat ing sys ­
te ms in pa rticula r r equir e a great deal of e nergy .
I f you notice, fo r example, t hat the seat heati ng*
o r r ear window defogger is not wor king, then it
h as been tempor arily reduce d or switched off.
These sys tems are avai lab le aga in as soon as t he
energy supp ly has been restored.
I n add it ion, yo u may notice tha t the idle speed
h as slig htly incre ase d. Tha t is normal and no
ca use for concer n. By in creasing the idling spee d,
the addit io na l required energy will be gene rated
and t he vehicle battery w ill be charged.
