Setting the speed warning
By pressing the I SETI button br iefly, you can
set threshold 1 of the speed warning while
you are dr iv ing

Depending on the vehicle equ ipment level,
you may choose between the quartz clock or
the
GPS controlled clock* (!j in the radio or in
the MMI*. You can learn more about th is in
the MMI manual or in the radio user's manual.
Odometer /trip odometer
The display of distance dr iven is shown in kilo­
meters "km" or in miles "mi".

T he units of measure (kilometers/miles) can
be changed in the radio or
MMI*. You can learn more about this in the MM
I manual or in
the radio user's manual.
T he odometer @ shows the total number of
kilometers or miles that have been driven on
the vehicle .
The trip odometer @shows the distance driv­
en since it was last reset .
It can be used to
measure short distances. The last digit shows
distances of
100 meters or 1/10 of a mile.
T he trip odometer can be reset to zero by
pressing the reset button IO .OI

Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the in ­
strument cluster,
DEF w ill appear in the trip
odometer and w il l stay on . Contact your au­
thorized Audi dea le r to have the prob lem cor­
rected.
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on
t h e ignition key are scanned automat ically .
If an unauthor iz ed key was used,
SAFE is dis­
played permanently in the odometer display

Locking the front passenger's door/rear
doors* with the mechanical key
The emergency lock is located on the rear side
of the front passenger's door and the rear
doors.
It is only visible when the door is open.

.. Inse rt the key in the inside slot and turn it
all the way to the right (r ight doo r) or left
(left door).
Once the front passenger's doorrear doo rs*
close, you cannot open them again from the
outside. The door can be opened from the in ­
side by pulling the door handle. If the child
safety lock in a rear door* is activated, you
must first pull the door handle on the inside .
Then you can open the door from the outside.

After the ign ition is switched on, the pow­
er lock ing system switch and the unlocking
button for the rear lid~ in the door are
enabled.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from
being started by unauthorized persons .
Inside the key there is a computer chip. This
chip automatically activates/deactivates the
electronic immobilizer .
Applies to vehicles with ignition lock:
The electronic immobilizer deactivates auto­
matically when you insert the remote control
key into the ign ition lock.
It activates again
automat ically when you remove the remote
control key from the ignition lock .
Applies to vehicles with convenience key:
If the remote control key is located inside the
vehicle and you press the
I START ENGINE STOP I button, the electronic
immobilizer deactivates automatically . If you
switch the ign ition off and remove the remote
control key from the vehicle, the electronic
immobilizer activates aga in automat ically .

Always take the key with you when you
l eave the vehicle. The key can disa rm the
e lectronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys­
tems such as power w indow or power sun­
roof leading to serious personal injury.

- The vehicle cannot be started if an unau­
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another veh icle or a transponder is
located on the key ring.

Energy management
Starting ability is optimized
Energy management controls the distribution
of electrical energy and thus optimizes the
availability of electrical energy for starting
the engine.
I f a vehicle with a conven tional energy system
i s not d riven for a long period of time , the bat­
tery is discharged by idling c urrent consumers
(e .g. immobilizer) . In certain circumstances it
can result in there being insuffic ient energy
avai lab le to start the engine.
I ntelligent energy management in your veh i­
cle hand les the distribution of electrical ener­
gy . Starting abi lity is marked ly improved and
the life of the battery is extended .
B asically , energy management consists o f
battery diagno sis, idling current manage­
ment
and dynami c ene rg y man agement.
Battery diagnosis
Battery d iagnosis con tinuously dete rm ines
the state of the battery. Senso rs determ ine
battery vo ltage, batte ry cur rent and battery
temperature. This determines the current
state of charge and the power of the battery.
Idling current management
I dling c urrent managemen t red uces energy
consumption while the vehicle is stand ing.
With the ignition switched off, it contro ls the
energy s upply to the various e lectrica l compo­
nents . Data from battery diagnosis is consid­
ered.
D epending on the battery's state of charge,
individual consumers are grad ually turned off
to prevent excess ive d ischarge of the battery
and thus ma inta in start ing cap ability .
Dynamic energy management
While the vehi cle is being driven, dynamic en­
ergy management distr ibutes the energy gen ­
erated according to the needs of the indiv id u­
al components.
It regulates consumption, so
that more electrical energy is not being used
t h an is being generated and ensures an opti­
mal state of c harge for the battery.

- But even ene rgy management cannot
negate the limits of physics. Consider
that the power and life of a battery are limited.

What you should know
The highe st priori ty is given to main taining
starting capability.
T he battery is seve re ly taxed in short -d istance
driv ing, in city traff ic and during the cold time
o f year. Abundant electrical energy is re­
quired, but on ly a little is generated . It is also
critical if the engi ne is not r unning and electri­
ca l components are tu rned on. In this in­
sta nce ene rgy is be ing consumed bu t none is
being genera ted .
It is in precisely these s ituations t hat you will
notice ene rgy management active ly regu lat­
i ng t he d istribu tion of ene rgy.
Vehicle stands for an extended period
If you do not drive your vehicle over a period
of several days or weeks, e lectr ica l compo ­
nents a re g radually cut back or sw itched off .
T h is reduces energy consumption and ma in­
ta ins s tart ing capability over a longer pe riod .
Some of the convenience func tions may not
opera te, such as the interior ligh ts or the
power seat adjustment. The convenience
functions will be available again wh en you
switch on the ignition and start the eng ine .
