- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted

- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay¢

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .

traff ic light) the set speed of the wind­
shield wipers is automatically red uced by
one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
C lea n the w indshield wiper blades when they
begin to leave streaks . Use a soft cloth and
g lass cleaner to clean the winds hield wiper
b lades.

We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C) .

Press the buttons to turn the funct ions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the a ir distribution . The
LED in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are disp layed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display .
In vehicles with a 3 -zone deluxe automat ic cl i­
mate control systems*, the dr iver and front
passenger side can be adjusted separately .
The settings are also displayed in the climate
control sys tem display.
IOFF I Switching the climate control
system on/off
The IOFFI button switches the climate control
sys tem on or off . It also switches on when you press the knob. Airflow from outside
is
blocked when the climate control system is
switched off .
IAC I Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off .
This can cause fog on the windows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is below ze ro .
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi­
cle is c irculated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior . We recommend

in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.
Setup
The basic climate control settings can be ad­
justed in the radio or MM!* .

Automatic recirculation*
When switched on, automatic recirculation
controls the recirculation mode automatica lly.

Synchronization*
When synchroniza tion is switched on, the
same settings are applied to both the driver
and front passenger, except for the seat heat­
ing/ventilation*. Synchronization switches off
when you ad just the settings on the front pas­
senger's side.
You can a lso switch synchronization on by
press ing and ho lding the knob on the driver's
side.
Supplementary heater
The supplementa ry heater warms the interio r
of vehicles with flexib le fue l engines more
quickly. The supplementary heater is control­
led automatically in the
Auto setting.

Steering lock
The steering locks when you turn the engine

Emergency off
If necessary , the eng ine can be sw itched off
with the selector lever in the R or D/S pos i­
tions. To do so , step on the brake peda l and
p ress and hold the
I S TA RT E NGINE STO PI bu t­
ton vehicle speed must be less than 6 mph (10 km/h).
A WARNING
- Never turn off the eng ine before the ve­
hicle has come to a complete stop . The
full function of the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary . Because you cannot steer and
brake as you usua lly would, t his could
lead to crashes and serious injur ies .
- For safety reasons, you should always
par k your vehicle with the se lector lever
in P. Otherwise, the ve hicle co uld i nad­
vertent ly roll away.
- T he rad iator fan ca n con tinue to ru n for
u p to 10 min utes eve n after yo u have
t ur ned o ff the eng ine and removed the

ignition key. The radiator fan can a lso
turn on again if the engine coo lant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key w ith you whenever
you leave your ve hicle. Otherw ise, the
engine could be started or electrical

could be ope rated. This can lead to seri­
ous injury.

the system does not recognize it . Fo r exam­
ple , the master key cannot be recogni zed if it
is covered by an obje ct (e.g . al uminum brief
case) which
screens t he radio s ignal. Elec tron­
i c dev ices such as cell phones can also inter­
fere with the radio s ignal.
Pre ss brak e pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal to start the eng ine in a vehicle
with an automat ic transm iss ion.
Press clutch pedal to start engine
T his message appears if you do not press the
clutch pedal to start the engine in a veh icle
with a manual tr ansmission . ..,.

The speed warning system has two warning thresholds that function independently of
each other and that have somewhat different
pu rposes:
Speed warning 1
You ca n use speed warnin g 1 to set the maxi ­
mum s peed w hile you are driv ing. Th is sett ing
will remain in effect until you t urn off the igni ­
tion, assuming that you have not changed or reset the setting.
The . (USA mo dels) /. (Canada mo dels)
speed warning symbol in the warning 1 dis­
p lay appears when you exceed t he maximum
speed. It goes o ut w hen t he speed fa lls below
the s tored max imum speed.
T he speed warning symbo l wi ll also go out i f
the speed
exceeds the stored maximum speed
by more than about 25 mph (40 km/h) for at
least 10 seconds. The stored maxim um speed
i s deleted .
Speed warning 2
Storing warn ing 2 is recommended if you al­
ways
want to be reminded of a certa in speed ,
for example when you a re traveling in a coun­
try that has a general maximum speed limi t,
or if you do not want to exceed a spec if ied
speed fo r winter tires.

the adaptive cru ise contro l system brakes to

If the veh icle ahead ac­

the system. This reduces the vehicle speed

tem can in it iate a complete decelerat ion

- If the braking guard senses that you are not
braking hard enough when a collision is im­
minent, it can increase the braking force.

A WARNING
Lack of attention can cause col lis ions, oth­
er accidents and serious persona l injuries.
The braking guard is an assist system and
cannot prevent a coll is ion by itself. The
driver must always intervene. The d river is
always responsib le for br aking at the cor­
rect time .
- Always pay close attention to traffi c,
even when the bra king g uard is switched
on . Be ready to intervene and be ready to
take complete control whenever necessa­ ry. A lways keep the safe and lega l dis­
tance between your vehicle and vehicles
up ahead.
- Braking guard works w ith in limits and
will not respond outs ide the system lim­
its, for example when approaching a
stopped vehicle or stationary obstacle
(end of a traff ic jam or vehicle that has
broken down in traffic).
- Always remember that the radar sensor
for the braking guard wo rks only within
defined detection and ra nge limits that

may prevent the proper detection of oth­
er vehicles .
- The radar sensor's function and range
can be reduced by rain, snow and heavy
spray. Moving ve hicles up ahead may not
be prompt ly detected or may not be de­
tected at all.

ers or tunne l entrances may impair the
function of the radar senso r.

- Yo u can cancel the bra king that is in itiat­
ed by the system by braking yourself, by
accelerating not iceably or by swerving.

brake unexpected ly. Always secure any

The driver message also appears if the system is not available due to a malfunction or if the
ESC is not switched on

the case, the system will not provide warnings
about a possible collision.
Braking guard: Activated
This driver message appears if sharp brake
pressure was applied due to an acute warning.

Three white dots appear if a setting cannot be
selected with the operating lever. For exam­
ple, this happens if you want to raise/lower
the speed even though there was no previous­
ly saved speed .
ACC: Deactivation
The driver message appears in vehicles with
manual transmission . If the clutch pedal was
pressed down for too long, the adaptive cruise
control turns off. A chime sounds as a remind­
er .
ACC: Sensor blocked
This message appears if the sensor view is ob­
structed, for example by leaves, snow, heavy
spray or dirt. Clean the sensor

ACC: not available
The driver message appears if there is a mal­
function. The adaptive cruise control turns off.
A chime sounds as a reminder. Have the sys­
tem checked by an authori zed Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility.
ACC: unavailable
The driver message appears if, for example,
the brake temperature is too high. The adap­
tive cruise control is temporarily unavailable.
A chime sounds as a reminder.
Engine speed!
This driver message appears in vehicles with
manual transmission if the driver had not up­
shifted or downshifted in time while using
adaptive cruise control braking or accelerat­
ing, causing the vehicle to exceed or not reach
the permitted limit speed. The adaptive cruise control turns off. A chime sounds as a remind­
er .
Shift lever position!
Vehicles with an automatic transmission: the
driver message appears if the selector lever is
shifted to the N position. The adaptive cruise
control is not available while in this position.
Vehicles with manual transmission: the driver
message appears for vehicles with manual
transmission if there is no forward gear en­
gaged, meaning if the reverse gear or the 1st
gear is engaged or if the selector lever is in
the neutral position. The adaptive cruise con­
trol is not available while in this position.
Stabilization control (ESC)
This message appears if the electronic stabili­
zation control (ESC) is taking action to stabi­
lize the vehicle. The adaptive cruise control
turns off . A chime sounds as a reminder .
Speed too low
This message appears if the current speed is
too low
to set or to maintain the desired
speed .
The speed being saved must be at least
20 mph (30 km/h). The cruise control is
turned off for speeds lower than 12 mph
