The windshie ld may not be trea ted with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions s uch as wetness, dark­
ness, or low sun can result in increased glare .
Wiper blade chatter is also possible.

-Never clean headlights or tail lights with a
dry cloth or sponge.
- Do not use any cleaning product that con­
tains alcohol, because they could cause
cracks to form.

rims such as stone chips or scratches must
be repaired immediately.

Emergency assistance
General information
... Park the vehicle as far as possible from moving
traffic in the event of a breakdown. In the event
of a flat tire, park the vehicle on a level surface .
It you are on a steep hill, be especially careful.

hold the warning triangle offered by the Audi

The vehicle tool kit, vehicle jack*, tire mobility
kit* and compressor are stored in the luggage
compartment under the cargo floor cover.
.,. Lift the cargo floor by the plastic handle .
.,. Tu rn the handle counter-clockwise and remove
the cover or the spare ti re*.
A WARNING
Improper use of the vehicle jack can cause se­
rious personal injuries.
- Never use the screw driver hex head to
tighten wheel bolts, since the bolts cannot
attain the necessary tightening torque if you
use the hex head, potentially causing an ac­
cident.
- The factory-supplied jack is intended only
for your vehicle model. Under no circum­ stances should it be used to lift heavy
veh icles or other loads; you risk injuring
yourself.
- Never start the engine when the veh icle is
raised, which could cause an accident.
- Support the vehicle securely with a ppropri­
ate stands if work is to be performed under­
neath the vehicle; otherwise, there is a po­
tential risk for injury .
- Never use the jack supplied with your Aud i
on another vehicle, particularly on a heavier
one. The jack is only suitable for use on the
veh icle i t came with.

The vehicle jack* in your vehicle is mainte­
nance-free.

\.J - There are some restrictions on the use of the
spare tire. The spare tire has been designed spe ­
cifically for your type of vehicle. Do not replace it
with the spare tire from another type of vehicle.
Spac e-sav ing spar e tir e*
The tire pressure must be 61 PSI (4.2 bar).
Remo ving the spar e tire
~ Fold the cargo floor up to the rear bench seat .
~ Turn the handwheel counter-clockw ise and re-
move it.
~ Remove the spare tire.
Snow cha ins
Using snow chains on the spare tire is not perm it ­
ted due to technical reasons .
If you have to drive with snow chains and a front
tire fails, mount the spare tire in place of a rear
tire . Install the snow chains on the rear tire that
you removed, and install that in place of the
front tire that failed.
A WARNING
-
- After installing a spare t ire, the tire pres­
s u re must be checked as quickly as poss ible.
- Do not drive faster than 50 mph (80 km/h)
with a spare tire. Dr iv ing faster than that in ­
creases the risk of an acc ident.
- Avoid full-throttle accelerat ion, heavy b rak­
ing, and fast cornering, beca use this in­
creases the risk of an accident.
- Never drive us ing more than one spare t ire,
because th is increases the risk of an acci­
dent.
- Norma l t ires o r winter tires must not be
mounted on the spare tire rim .
- Only use the co llaps ible spa re ti re in emer­
gencies and dr ive very carefu lly, especially if
it is more than 6 years o ld .

Replacing fuses
A fuse that has blown will have metal strips that have burned through.

The fuses are located on front left and r ight of

off.

A WARNING
Do not repair fuses and neve r replace a blown
f u se with one that has a higher amp rat ing.
This can cause damage to the e lectr ica l sys­
tem and a fire.

If a new fuse burns out again shortly after you
h ave insta lled it, have the e lectrical system
checked as soon as possible by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Aud i Service Fac ili­
ty.

- The following table does not list fuse loca­
t ions that are not used .
- Some of the equipment listed in the fo llow­
ing tables applies on ly to certain model ver­
sions or certa in optional equipment .

Weights
Gross Vehi cle We ight Rating
The G ross Veh icle Weight Rating (GVWR), and
the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for front
and rear are listed on a sticker on the door jamb
on the driver's side.
The G ross Veh icle Weight Rating includes the
weight of the basic vehicle p lus full fuel tank, oi l
and coolant, p lus maximum load, which includes
passenger weight (150 lbs/68 kg per designated
seating position) and luggage we ight

Gross Axle Weight Rating
The Gross Axle We ight Rating is the max imum
l oad that can be applied at each axle of the vehi ­
cle

Vehicle capacity weight
The vehicle capac ity we ight (max . load) is listed
e ithe r o n the dr iver's side 8-pilla r or inside the
fuel filler f lap .

-The actual Gross Ax le Weight Rating at the
front and rear axles sho uld not exceed the
permissible weights, and their comb inat ion
must not exceed the Gross Vehicle We ight
Rating.
- Exceeding perm iss ible weight ratings can
result in vehicle damage, acc idents and per­
sonal inj ury .

when the load is d istributed evenly in the
vehicle (passengers and luggage). When
transport ing a heavy load in the luggage
compartment, carry the load as near to the
rear axle as possible so that the vehicle's
hand ling is no t impa ired .
- Do not exceed the maximum perm iss ible
ax le loads or the maximum gross vehicle
we igh t. A lways remember that the vehi cle's
hand ling will be affected by the extra load.

Operating your vehicle
outside the U.S.A. or
Canada
Government regulati ons in the United States and
Canada require that automobi les meet specific
emission regulations and safety standards.
Therefore, vehicles built for the U.S.A. and Cana ­
da differ from vehicles sold in other countries.
If you plan to take your vehicle outside the conti­
nenta l limits of the United States or Canada,
there is the poss ibility that:
- un leaded fue ls for vehicles with catalytic con­
verter may not be available;
- fuel may have a considerably lower octane rat­
ing . Improper fuel may cause engine damage;
- service may be inadequate due to lack of proper
service facilities, tools or testing equipment;
- r eplacement parts may not be readily available.
- Nav igation systems for veh icles built for the
U.S .A . and Canada will not necessarily work in
Europe, and may not work in other countries
outside North America.

Maintenance
General '
Your vehicle has been designed to help keep
maintenance requirements to a min imum. How­
ever, a certain amount of regular maintenance is
still necessary to assure your vehicle's safety,
economy and reliability . For detailed vehicle
maintena nce consult your Warranty & Mainte­
nance booklet .
Under difficult operating conditions, for exam ­
ple at extremely low outside temperatures, in
very dusty regions, etc., some se rvice work
should be performed between the intervals speci­
fied. This applies particularly to:
- oil changes, and
- cleaning or replac ing the a ir filter .
@ For the sake of the environment
By regularly maintaining your vehicle, you
help make sure that emission standards are
maintained, thus min imizing adverse effects
on the environment.

fuel injection and emission control systems, and
the genera lly increasing technica l complexity of

Maintenance, adjustments and repairs usually re ­
qu ire special tools, test ing devices and other
equ ipment available to specially trained work­
shop perso nnel i n order to assure proper per ­
forma nce, re liability and safety of the ve hicle and
i ts many systems.
Improper maintenance, adjustments and repairs
can impair the operation and reliability of your
vehicle and even void your veh icle warranty.
Therefore, proof of se rvicing in accordance with
the ma intenance sc hedule may be a condition for
upho ld ing a possib le wa rranty claim made wi thin
the warranty pe riod.
Above all, operational safety can be adversely af­
fected, creating unnecessa ry risks fo r you and
your p assengers.
If in doubt about any se rvicing, have it done by
your author ized Audi dealer or any other properly
eq uipped and qua lified workshop. We strongly
urge yo u to g ive your author ized Audi dealer the
opport unity to perform a ll scheduled ma inte­
nance and necessary repairs . Your dealer has the
facilities, origina l parts and trained specialists to
keep your veh icle running properly .
Performing limited maintenance yourself
The follow ing pages des cribe a lim ited number of
p rocedures w hich can be per formed o n your veh i­
cle with ordinary tools, should the need arise and
trained personnel be unavailable . Before per­
forming any of these procedures, always thor­
ough ly read a ll of the app licab le text and carefu l­
ly follow the instructions g iven. Always rigorously
observe the
WARNING S provided .
Before you check anything in the engine com ·
partment , always read and heed all WARNINGS
c:> &. and c:> &. in Working in the engine compart­
ment on page 199.
Con sumer inf ormation
A WARNING
- Ser ious personal in jury may occur as a result
of improperly performed maintenance, ad­
justments or re pairs .
- Always be extremely careful when work ing
on the vehicle. Always follow commonly ac­
cepted safety practices and general com­ mo n sense. Never risk pe rsonal injury.
- Do not attempt any of the mai ntenance,
checks or repairs described on t he following
pages if you are not fu lly familiar wi th these
or other proce dures with respect to the ve­
h icle, o r are uncerta in how to pro ceed.
- Do not do a ny work withou t the prope r tools
a nd eq uipment. H ave the necessary wo rk
done by your au thorized Audi dealer or an­
other proper ly equipped and qualified wo rk ­
shop.
- The engine compa rtment of any motor ve hi­
cle is a potent ially hazardous area . Never
reach into the area around or touch the radi­
ator fan.
It is temperature controlled and
can switch o n suddenly - even when the en­
g ine is off . The radiato r fan switches on au ­
tomatically when the coolan t reaches a cer­
tain tempe ra ture and w ill cont inue to run
until the coolant temperature d rops.
- Always sw itch off the ignition before anyone
gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your veh icle with safety
s tands if it is necessary to work underneat h
the vehicle . The jack supp lied with t he veh i­
cle is no t adequ ate for t his pu rpose and
could collapse ca us ing serious personal in­
jury.
- If you m ust wor k unde rne ath the vehicle
with the wheels on the ground, always make
sure the vehicle is on level ground, that the
wheels a re always sec urely blocked and that
the engine cannot be started.
- Always make sure the transmission se lector
lever (automatic t ransmiss ion) is in P (Park
position) and the pa rk brake is applied .
