When approaching a moving vehicl e up ahead,
the adaptive cruise contro l system automati­
cally brakes to match that object's speed and
then maintains the stored distance.
If the ve­
hicle ahead accelerates, adaptive cruise con­
trol will also accelerate up to the stored
speed .
The higher the speed, the greater the distance
in yards (meters) ¢.&. . The
Distance 3 setting
is recommended .
The distances prov ided are specified values .
Depending on the driving situation and the
how the vehicle ahead is driving, the actual
distance may be more or less than these tar ­
get distances.

A WARNING
Following other vehicles too closely in­
creases the risk of collisions and serious
personal injur y.
- Setting short distances to the traffic
ahead reduces the time and distance
available to bring your vehicle to a safe
stop and makes it even more necessary
to pay close attention to traffic. -
Always obey applicable traffic laws, use
good judgment, and select a safe follow­
ing d istance for the traff ic, road and
weather conditions .

Braking guard uses radar sensors and a video
camera. It also functions within the limits of
the system when adapt ive cruise control is
switched off .
What can braking guard do?
When detected in time, the system can assess
situations when a vehicle ahead brakes sud­
denly or if your own vehicle is traveling at a
h igh speed and approaching a vehicle up
ahead that is moving more slowly . Brak ing
guard does not react if it cannot detect the
situation.
The system advises you of various situations:
- The
distance warning is given if you are too
close to the vehicle ahead for a long time. If
the vehicle ahead brakes sharply, you will
not be able to avoid a collis ion. The indicator
light. in the display comes on.
- The
approach warning is given when a de­
tected vehicle up ahead in your lane is mov­
i ng much more slowly than you are or if it
brakes sharply . When this wa rning is given,
it may only be possible to avoid a collision
by swerving or braking sharply. Th e indicator
li ght . and indicator in the display will
warn you about the danger~

If you do not react fast enough or do not react
at all to the situation, braking guard wi ll inter·
vene by braking and the message

- If a collision is imminent, the system wi ll
first provide an
acute warning by briefly and
sharply applying the brakes .
- If you do not react to the acute warning,
braking guard can brake wit h increas ing
force w ithin the limits of the system . This
reduces the vehicle speed in the event of a
collision.
- The system can initiate max imum brak ing
shortly before a collision
1> . Full deceleration
at high speeds occurs only in vehicles with
adapt ive cr uise control and side assist (p re
sense plus) .
- If the brak ing guard senses that you are not
braking hard enough when a collision is im·
minent, it can increase the brak ing force.
- The pre sense functions also engage when a
col lision is imminent ~

Which functions can be controlled?
You can switch braking guard and the dis­
tance/approach warn ing on or off in the MMI
~ page 99, Settings in the MMI.
A WARNING
-
Lack of attention can cause collisions, oth-
er accidents and serious personal injuries .
The braking guard is an assist system and
ca nnot prevent a collision by itself. The
driver must always intervene. The driver is
a lways respons ible for braking at the cor­
rect time.
- Always pay close attention to traffic,
even when the braking guard is switched
on. Be ready to intervene and be ready to
take comp lete control whenever necessa­
ry. Always keep the safe and legal dis­
tance between your vehicle and veh icles
up ahead .
- Braking guard works within limits and
will not respond outside the system

Active Lane assist
Description
Applies to vehicles: with active lane assist
Active lane assist helps you keep your vehicle
in your lane.
Active lane assist detects lane marker lines
within the limits of the system using a camera in the windshield . If you are approaching a de­
tected lane marker line and it appears likely
that you w ill leave the lane, the system will
warn you by means of corrective steer ing . T he
driver can over ride the cor re ct ive steer ing at
any time. If the veh icle crosses a line, the d riv­
er is also warned by a light
vibration in the
steering whee l. The vibration warning must
be switched on in the MMI for this to happen.
Active lane ass ist is operable when the line
marking the lane is detected on at least one
side of the vehicle .
The system is designed for driv ing on free ­
ways and expanded highways and thus works only at speeds of 40 mph (65 km/h) or more .
Applies to vehicles with side assist* : If you ac­
tivate your turn s ignal when active lane assist
is ready and when activated side assist has
classified a lane change as crit ica l because of
vehicles traveling alongside you or comi ng
closer, there will be noticeable correct ive
steer ing just before you leave the lane . This is
done to try to keep your veh icle in the lane.
Applies to vehicles w ithout s ide ass ist*: when
the system is ready, it does not warn you if
you act ivate your turn signa l before driving
across a lane marker line . In this case, it as­
sume s that yo u are ch ang ing lanes intent ion­
a lly.
I f the vehicle is also equipped with Audi adap­
tive cruise cont ro l*, the co rrec tive steering
will be mo re specific in rega rd to the driving
situation. In addition to the lane marker lines,
the system can a lso take into account other
objects such as guard rails . If they are detect­
ed in close proximity to the veh ic le, Audi ac-

tive lane assist he lps prevent the vehicle from
driving too close to them. There is a lso pass­
ing ass istance . The system does not provide
any correct ive steering if it detects that you
are passing another vehicle.
A WARNING
- The system warns the drive r that the ve­
hicle is leaving the lane using co rrect ive
s teer ing . The d river is always r esponsible
for keeping the vehicle withi n the lane.
- The system can assist the dr iver in keep­
i n g the vehicle in the lane, but it does
not steer by itself. A lway s keep yo ur
h a nds on the steering wheel.
- Cor rective s teer ing may not occur in cer­
tain sit uat ions, such as dur ing heavy
bra king.
- Th e camera does not recogni ze all lane
marker lines. Cor rective s teer ing ca n only
take p lace on the side of the vehi cle
where lane marke r lines are detected.
- Othe r road str uctures o r objects co uld
possibly be identified unintentiona lly as
lane ma rker lines . As a res ult, corrective
steering may be unexpected or may not
occ ur.
- The camera view can be restricted, for
examp le by vehicles driving ahead or by
ra in, snow, heavy spray or light shining
into the camera . Th is can result in act ive
lane assis t not detecti ng the lane marke r
lines or detect ing them inco rrectly.
- Unde r ce rtain conditions such as ruts in
the road, a banked roadway or cross­
winds, the co rrective stee ring alone may
not be enough to keep the vehicle in the
lane.
- For safety reasons, active lane ass ist
m ust not be u sed w hen the re a re poor
road and/or weat her condi tions such as
slippe ry roads, fog, grave l, heavy rain,
snow an d the potential for hydroplaning .
Using active lane assist under these con­
ditions may increase the risk of a crash.

• Ready: The indicator light shows that the
system is ready to use . The system can now
warn you if you are about to cross a known
lane marker line .
• Not ready: The ind icator light shows that
the system is turned on but unable to send a
warning . This can be due to the following :
- There is no lane marker line .
- The relevant lane marker lines are not de-
tected (for example, markings in a construc­
tion zone or because they are obstructed by
snow, dirt, water or backlight ing).
- The vehicle 's speed is below the speed need ­
ed to activate it, which is about 40 mph (65
km/h) .
- The lane is narrower than about 8 ft . (2 .5 m)
or wider than 15 ft (4 .5 m).
- The curve is too sharp . - The driver's hands are not on the steering
wheel.

Driving settings
Introduction
Audi drive select makes it possible to experi­
ence different types of vehicle settings in one
vehicle. The driver can select three
Comfort,
Auto
and Dynamic modes in the MMI to
switch between a sporty and a comfortable
driving mode.
You can a lso adjust the setting according to
your preferences in the
individual mode. For
example, you can combine settings such as a
sporty engine tuning with comfortab le steer­
ing.
A WARNING
Improper use of the Audi drive select can
cause collisions, other accidents and seri­
ous personal injury.
Description
The vehicle setup in each mode depends on
the vehicle's features. The engine, transmis­
sion, steering, reversible safety belt tension­
ers and adaptive air suspension are always in­
volved.
Engine and transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
transmission respond quicker or in a more bal­
anced manner to acce le rator pedal move­
ments. In the sporty dynamic mode, the
transmission shifts at higher RPMs.
Air suspension
The adaptive air suspension/adaptive air sus­
pension sport*
(Ai r suspension in the MMI) is
an electronically control led air suspension and
damping system. They are adjusted depend­
ing on the selected driving mode, the driver's
steering, braking and acceleration input and
the road surface, vehicle speed and load. A
sporty setting is generally used in vehicles
with adaptive air suspension sport*. The
vehicle clearance varies depending on the
selected mode and the speed .
The highway setting is activated automatically
when you drive above 75 mph (120 km/h) for
more than
30 seconds in the auto or dynamic
mode. The ground clearance is increased auto­
matically if the speed drops below
44 mph
(70 km/h) for more than 120 seconds.
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steering ratios . Indirect steering that
moves easily, like the steering in comfort
mode, is best suited to long drives on a high­
way. In contrast, dynamic mode provides
sporty, direct steering .
The following applies to vehicles with dynamic
steering* : the steering ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to maintain optimum
steering effort for the driver at all times. This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle
control. At reduced speeds, however, steer ing
is more direct in order to keep the steering ef­
fort as minimal as poss ible when the driver is
maneuvering the vehicle. At low and average
speeds, dynamic steering additionally pro ­
vides more responsive steering performance.
Sport differential*
As a component of the all whee l dr ive system
(quattro)
r:!> page 202, the Sport differential*
distributes the driving power to the rear axle
depending on the situation . The distribution
of power varies depending on the selected
mode, from balanced (comfort) to agile (dy­
namic). The goal is a high level of agility and
ability to accelerate on curves . The vehicle is
very respons ive to steering .
Curve light*
The curve light adapts to driving on curves.
The pivoting action and the lighting are also adapted to the mode.
Adaptive cruise control*
The behavior when accelerating can be adjust­
ed from comfortab le to sporty, depending on ..,.

Description
App lies to vehicles: with night visio n assistant
Night vision assistant with pedestrian and
wild animal detection assists you in darkness
by using an infrared camera to monitor the
area in front of your vehicle, within the lim its
of the system.
It can display objects up to ap­
proximately 1000 feet (300 meters) away.
The heat image detected by the camera is
shown in the instrument cluster display.
Warm areas appear lighter and cold areas ap­ pear darker.
Pedestrian and wild animal detection

Within the limits of the system, night vision
assistant can detect pedestrians and wild ani­
mals that are within the detection range be­
tween approximately 32 feet (10 meters) and
295 feet (90 meters) in front of the vehicle .

tion of the night vision assistant system:
- poor visibility such as snow , rain, fog or
heavy road spray
- dirty lens on the night vision assistant cam -
era
Make sure the night v is ion assistan t camera

or any other obstructions beca use that can
prevent the camera from working properly.

Pedestrian and wild animal detection depends
on the difference in temperature between the person/wild anima
l and the backg round area.
Pedestrians/w ild an imals may not be detected
if the d ifference is too sma ll. Pedestrian and
wild animal marking are deactivated at tem­
peratures above approximately 77 °F
(25 °()
and when it is light outside. When the night
v ision assistant image is selected in the in­
strument cluster d isplay, the
II symbo l ap·
pears in the upper right.
_&. WARNING
Night vision ass ista nt has limits and ca n­
not always detect pedestr ians . Always pay
close attention to t raffic and the area
a round your veh icle even when nig ht vision
assistant is switched on.
- Night vision assistant can only warn
about people and wild animals located
w ith in the visual range of the infrared
camera. The visua l range corresponds to
the image in the instrument cluster dis·
p lay.
- Night vision assistant may not detect
people or w ild an imals and mark them if
- they a re not in an up right po siti on, for
example if they are si tting or lying
down and/or
- the silhouette in the disp lay is incom­
plete or interrupted, for examp le be­
cause a perso n is partially covered by a
parked vehicle or a wild anima l is parti·
a lly covered by tall grass. This increases
the risk of a collision.
- Never try to swerve to avoid anima ls if
this will put you or other drivers at risk.
This could increase t he risk of a collision.

- Even though the shape and warmth radi·
ated by each object detected is evaluat·
ed, the system does have limitations and
it can give incorrect warnings .
- For technical reasons, the image pauses
in split second intervals.

the vehicle will s tart to move immediate­
ly. This cou ld happen even if the parking
brake is activa ted .
- Be fore opening the hood, select the P se­
lector lever position and set the par king
brake. This red uces the risk of a crash. Al­
ways read and follow the applicable

-Never get out of the driver's seat when
the engine is running.
- If you mus t get out of the vehicle, move
the se lector lever securely into the P po ­
sition an d apply the park ing brake .

Transmission malfunction

r;J Transmission hot: please modify driving
style
The transmission temperature has increased
significantly due to the sporty driving manner.
Drive in a less sporty manner until the tem­
perature returns to the normal range and the
indicator light switches of.
r;J Gearbox malfunction: you can continue
driving
There is a system ma lfunction in the transmis­
sion. You may continue driving. Drive to your
authorized Audi dealer or qualified repair fa­
cility soon to have the malfunction corrected.
@]JIJI Gearbox malfunction: you can contin­
ue driving in D only until engine is off
There is a sys tem ma lfunction in the transmis­
sion. The transmission is switching to emer ­
gency mode. If you turn the engine off, you
will not be able to select any other se lector
lever positions after starting the engine again.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dealer or quali­
fied repair facility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected.
r;J Gearbox malfunction: you can continue
driving (limited functionality)
There is a system ma lfunction in the transmis­
sion. The transmission is switching to emer­
gency mode. Th is mode only shifts into cer­
tain gears or will not longer shift at all. The
engine may stall. Dr ive to your authorized
Aud i dealer or qualified repair facility immedi­
ate ly to have the malfunction corrected.
@]lift Gearbox malfunction: no reverse gear

The re is a system malfunction in the transmis­
s ion. The transm ission is swi tching to emer­
gency mode. This mode on ly shifts into cer ­
tain gears or will not longer shift at al l. You
cannot engage the reverse gear . Dr ive to your
authorized Aud i dea ler immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.

qualified repair facility immediately to have
