Driver assistance
Audi pre sense rear
Applies to: vehicles with Audi pre sense rear
Within the limits of the system, Audi pre sense
rear uses data from radar sensors in the rear area
of the vehicle and calculates the probability of a
rear-end collision with the vehicle behind you.
Audi pre sense preemptive safety measures can
be initiated if the risk of a collision with the vehi-
cle behind you is detected.
ZA\ WARNING
— Follow the safety precautions and note the
limits of the assist systems, sensors, and
cameras > page 154.
— Audi pre sense rear does not react to pedes-
trians, animals, crossing objects, and ob-
jects not detected as vehicles.
@) Tips
Audi pre sense rear functions may also switch
off if there is a malfunction in the side assist
system.
Audi pre sense side
Applies to: vehicles with Audi pre sense side
Audi pre sense side uses data from the extra ra-
dar sensors installed in the front and rear areas
of the vehicle, and other sensors can react to side
impacts from cross-traffic and vehicles coming
from the side.
Audi pre sense side is active at speeds up to ap-
proximately 35 mph (60 km/h). The Audi pre
sense preemptive safety measures can be trig-
gered when a collision risk is detected.
Depending on the situation, the suspension may
be lifted* on the side facing the accident.
Z\ WARNING
— Follow the safety precautions and note the
limits of the assist systems, sensors, and
cameras > page 154.
) In preparation at the time of printing. The speed range
may be within approximately 30 mph - 90 mph (50 km/h -
150 km/h) depending on the vehicle production date.
184
— Audi pre sense side does not react to pedes-
trians, animals, and objects not detected as
vehicles.
G) Tips
— The suspension lift* only occurs when the
ignition is switched on, the doors and lug-
gage compartment lid are closed, and if the
vehicle has been driven faster than 3 mph (5
km/h) at least once since the ignition was
switched on.
— The Audi pre sense side functions may also
switch off if there is a malfunction in the in-
tersection assistant”.
Applies to: vehicles with swerve assist
The swerve assist can help you to steer the vehi-
cle around an obstacle detected in a critical area.
If you avoid an obstacle after the acute warning,
then swerve assist assists you by specifically
braking individual wheels and applying slight
steering adjustment to correct the steering
wheel angle as long as you are actively steering.
The swerve assist is available at speeds between
approximately 20 mph and 90 mph (30 km/h -
150 km/h) ».
ZA WARNING
— Follow the safety precautions and note the
limits of the assist systems, sensors, and
cameras > page 154.
— Swerve assist does not react to pedestrians,
animals, crossing objects, and objects not
detected as vehicles.
(i) Tips
— System functions may not be available if the
ESC is limited or switched off, or if there is a
malfunction.
—An indicator in the instrument cluster will
inform you when there is an intervention.

Parking and maneuvering
— Sensors and cameras have spots in which
the surrounding area cannot be detected.
Objects, animals, and people may only be
detected with limitations may not be detect-
ed at all. Always monitor the traffic and the
vehicle's surroundings directly and do not
become distracted.
©) Note
— The orange orientation lines @) show the di-
rection the rear of the vehicle will be travel-
ing, based on the steering wheel angle. The
front of the vehicle swings out more than
the rear of the vehicle. Maintain plenty of
distance so that an exterior mirror or a cor-
ner of the vehicle does not collide with any
obstacles.
Operating the peripheral cameras
— Keep enough distance from the curb to
avoid damage to the rims.
— Only use the images provided by the camera
on the rear of the vehicle when the luggage
compartment lid is completely closed. Make
sure any objects you may have mounted on
the luggage compartment lid do not block
the rearview camera.
G) Tips
Applies to: vehicles with air suspension: The
accuracy of the orientation lines and blue sur-
faces on the camera display decreases when
the vehicle is raised or lowered with the air
suspension.
Applies to: vehicles with peripheral cameras

On vehicles with peripheral cameras, you can se-
lect among different views.
The camera views can be controlled with the
touch display. In certain views, you can zoom in
or out on the displayed area, and move, tilt, or
rotate the 3D surroundings.
) Requirement: The vehicle surroundings (Camera) must be
selected in the View in the side area.

rent view (2) or swipe at the edge of the selec-
tion bar from left to right.

braking maneuvers. Stop as soon as possible
and check the wheel bolts.
— Check your wheels for damage. Have the
damaged wheels checked and/or replaced
immediately by an authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility.
— Under certain conditions (such as a sporty
driving style, winter conditions, or unpaved
roads), the message may be delayed.
— The driver is responsible for ensuring that
the wheels are attached correctly.
@ Tips
— The loose wheel warning system can also
stop working when there is an ESC malfunc-
tion.
— Using snow chains may result in a system
malfunction.
Winter tires significantly improve the vehicle's
handling when driving in winter conditions. Be-
cause of their construction (width, compound,
tread pattern), summer tires provide less traction
on ice and snow.
> Use winter tires on all four wheels.
> Only use winter tires that are approved for your
vehicle.
> Please note that the maximum permitted
speed may be lower with winter tires > /\ in
General information on page 289. An author-
ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa-
cility can inform you about the maximum per-
mitted speed for your tires.
> Check the tire pressure after installing wheels
=> page 299.
The effectiveness of winter tires is reduced great-
ly when the tread is worn down to a depth of
0.16 in (4 mm). The characteristics of winter tires
also decrease greatly as the tire ages, regardless
of the remaining tread.
@ For the sake of the environment
Reinstall summer tires at the appropriate
time, because they provide better handling
when roads are free of snow and ice. Summer
tires cause less road noise, tire wear, and fuel
consumption.
G) Tips
You can also use all season tires instead of
winter tires. Please note that in some coun-
tries where winter tires are required, only win-
ter tires with the a symbol may be permit-
ted.
Snow chains improve both driving and braking in
winter road conditions.
> Only install snow chains on the front wheels.
> Check and correct the seating of the snow
chains after driving a few feet, if necessary. Fol-
low the instructions from the manufacturer.
> Note the maximum speed of 30 mph
(50 km/h). Observe the local regulations.
Use of snow chains is only permitted with certain
rim/tire combinations due to technical reasons.
Check with an authorized Audi dealer or author-
ized Audi Service Facility to see if you may use
snow chains.
Use fine-mesh snow chains. They must not add
more than 0.40 inch (10.5 mm) in height, includ-
ing the chain lock.
You must remove the snow chains on roads with-
out snow. Otherwise, you could impair driving
ability and damage the tires.
ZA\ WARNING
Using incorrect snow chains or installing snow
chains incorrectly can result in loss of vehicle
control, which increases the risk of an acci-
dent.
@) Note
— Snow chains can damage the rims and
wheel covers* if the chains come into direct
contact with them. Remove the wheel cov-
ers* first. Use coated snow chains.
— Do not install and use snow chains if there is
a malfunction in the air suspension, because
the vehicle height will be very low. If you
