Memory for driver's seat
Applies to vehicles: with seat memory
The seat adjustment settings for two drivers
can be stored using the memory buttons in
the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat,
the exterior rear view mirror setting can be
stored and recalled through seat memory if
the vehicle is properly equipped.
Storing and recalling settings
With the help of the memory buttons 1 and 2
c::> fig. 62 the settings for two different dr ivers
can be stored and recalled
c::> page 63.
The current settings are also automatically as­
signed to the remote control key being used
when the vehicle is locked . When the vehicle
is unlocked, the settings assigned to the re ­
mote contro l key being used are automatically
recalled.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the IOFFI switch is depressed, the seat
memory is inope rative. When the Memory
function is off , the LED in the button lights up.
A ll the stored settings are retained. We rec­
ommend using the
I OFFI switch and deactivat­
ing the seat memory if the vehicle is only go­
ing to be used
temporarily by a driver whose
settings are not going to be stored.

Storing settings
.,. Adjust the driver's seat.
.,. Adjust the two exterior mirrors.
.,. Press the
ISET I button. The light in the but­
ton will come on .
.,. Now press a memory button

the storing procedure is correct, a confirma­
tion tone will sound.
Recalling settings
.,. If the driver's door is open, tap the corre­
sponding memory button briefly .
.,. If the driver's door is closed, press the ap­
propriate memory button until the stored
position is reached.

When the vehicle is locked , the current set­
tings are stored and assigned to the remote
control key. But the settings stored on
memo­
ry buttons 1 to 2 are not deleted. They can be
recalled at any time. When the vehicle is
un­
locked ,
the settings assigned to the remote
control key are restored.
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using
your remote control key, you should save your
individual seat position on one of the memory
buttons. You can recall your settings again
s imply and conveniently by press ing the corre­
sponding memory button . When the vehicle is
locked, these settings are automatically re-as­
signed to the remote control key and stored.
A WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat setting can
only be recalled when the vehicle is sta­
tionary -otherwise yo u risk having an ac­
cident.
- In an emergency the recall p rocedure can
be cancelled by pressing the
IOFFI switch
or by tapping of the memory buttons.

Rear seats
General information
Safe transportation of pa ssengers on the rear
seats requires proper safe ty precautions.
All passenge rs on the rear seats must be seat­
ed i n complia nce w ith the safety guidelines
explained in
i=:;, page 149 and¢ page 157.

- Occ upants in the front and rear seats
must a lways be properly restrained.
- Do not let anyone ride i n the vehicle
without the head restraints provided.
Head restra ints help to reduce injuries.

sudden maneuver and i njure occupants.
Always store art icles in the luggage com­
partment and use the fasten ing eyes, es­
pecially when the rear seatbacks have
bee n folded down. -

Adjusting seat
The fore-and-a~ adjustment of the seat cush­
ion and the seatback angle can be adjusted.

Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to tie-downs can fail dur­
ing hard brak ing or in a collision and cause
ser ious personal injury.
- Always use suitable retaining straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the luggage compartment to help pre­
vent items from sh ifting or flying for­
wa rd.
- When the rear seat backrest is folded down, always use su itab le retain ing
straps and properly sec ure items to the

ward into the passenger compartment .
- Never attach a child safety seat tether

- Whenever driving, neve r pla ce any hard
or heavy objects on the luggage com­
partment or allow pets to sit on the lug ­
gage compartment cover. They could be­
come a hazard to vehicle occ upants in
the event of sudden braking or in an acci­
dent.

partment cover when you move the rear
seat or rear seat backrest.
(D Tips
- You can use the luggage compartment
cover to store light weight clothing or ar­
ticles but do not leave any heavy or sharp
objects in the pockets of the clothing.
- Remember that plac ing clothing or arti ­
cles on the luggage compartment
cover
can block the driver's vision in the rear
view mirror. This also applies especially
when you have to transport large ob­
jects.
- So that stale air can escape from the ve­
hicle be su re not to cove r the ventilation
slot between the rear lid and the lug­
gage compa rtment cover.

The 12-volt sockets can be used for electrical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.
There is an additional 12-volt socket in the
center console. Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and follow the information in
Q page 295, Additional accessories and parts
replacement.
A WARNING
The power outlets and therefore the elec­
trical accessories connected to them oper­ ate only with the ignition on. Improper use
of the outlets or of electrical accessories
can lead to serious injuries or cause a fire.
For this reason, children should never be
left unattended in the vehicle -they could
be injured!
(D Note
To avoid damaging the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly .
{D) Tips
When the engine is off and accessories are
still plugged in and are on, the vehicle bat ­
tery can still be drained .

A WARNING
--
- Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not put away
could slide around inside the vehicle
while driving or when accelerating or
when applying the brakes or when driv­ ing around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter console or other storage locations
cannot fall out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's view. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang
any clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks .
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects could injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle.
Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and
can be locked .

There are holders for a pen and a pad of paper in the glove compartment lid.
On the right side in the glove compartment is
a holder with the key body into which the
emergency key must be cl ipped to be able to
start the vehicle .
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, a lways keep the
glove compartment closed whi le driving.
Cooling box in glove compartment
The cooling box works only when the air-con­
ditioning is in cooling mode.

- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision.
- The coat hooks must only be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause personal injury in a crash .

Operation
We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C) .

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the air dist ribution . Th e
L ED in a button wi ll light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are disp layed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
The driver and front passenger side can be ad­
justed separately. The settings are also dis­
p layed in the climate control system disp lay.
IOFF I Switching the climate control
system on/off
The IOFFI button switches the climate control
sys tem on or off. It also switches on when you
press the knob. Airflow from o utside is
b locked when the climate control system is
switched off.
IAC ! Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not cooled and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the windows . Cooling
mode switches off a utomatica lly when the
outside temperature is below zero.
1 - 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recirculation mode, the air inside the vehi­
cle is circu lated and filtered . This prevents the
u nfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior. We recommend switching
recirculation mode on when driving
th rough a tunnel or when sitting in traff ic

The IAU TO I button or!@ FR ONT I button
switches recirculation mode off.
IAU TOI
Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode maintains a constant tem­
perature inside the vehicle. Air temperature,
airflow and air distribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting the temperature
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and 84 °F (+28 °C) can be set. Outside of this
range,
low or high will appear in the radio or
MMI* display . At both of these settings, the
climate control system runs continuously at
maximum cooling o r heating power. There is
no temperature regulation .
~ Adjusting the airflow
You can adjust the airflow manually to suit
your needs . To have the airflow regulated au­
tomatically, press the IAUTOI button .
~ Adjusting the air distribution
You can manua lly select the vents where the
air will flow. To have the a ir distribution regu­
lated automatically, press the !AU TO ! button.

Steering
Manually adjustable steering wheel
The height and reach of the s teering wheel
can be adjusted .

• Pull the lever¢

• Move the steer ing wheel to the desired posi­
t ion.
• Push the lever against the steering column
until it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­
tween your chest and the center of the steer­ ing wheel.
If you cannot sit more than 10 in ­
ches (25 cm) from the steering wheel, see if
adaptive equipment is available to help you
reach the pedals and increase the distance
from the steering wheel.

& WAR NING
Improper use of steering wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can
cause serious personal injury .
- Adjust the steering whee l column on ly
when the vehicle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of vehicle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that there is a minimum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel

tance, the airbag system cannot protect
you properly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from
sitting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from
the steering wheel, check with your au­
thorized Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is available .
- If the steering wheel is aligned with your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag
cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the
steer ing whee l is a ligned with your
chest .
- Always hold the steer ing whee l w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of persona l injury
if the driver's airbag dep loys .
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'clock position or wi th your hands inside
the stee rin g wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub. Holding the steering wheel
the wrong way can cause serious injuries
to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er's airbag deploys.
Ignition lock
Starting engine with the key
The ignition is switched on and the engine
started with the ignition key.

• It is possible that there w ill be a slight delay
when start ing the engine for diesel vehicles*
in colder temperatures . Therefore, you must
hold the brake pedal down until the eng ine
starts. The indicator lamp

Switching the ignition on /off
If you would like to switch the ignition on
without s tarting the engine, follow these
steps :
• Insert the key into the ignition lock.
• Press the key briefly
without press the brake
pedal.
• To switch the ignition off, press the key
again .
Diesel vehicles* are preheated while the igni­
tion is sw itched on .
When starting the engine, major e lectrica l
loads are switched off temporarily .
You can on ly remove the key with the ignition
switched off. To do this, you have to press on
the key again.
I f the engine should not sta rt immediately,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time. Repeat starting procedure .
Start-Stop-System*:
Note the information on¢ page 91, Start ­
Stop-System.

- Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation.
- Never remove the ign ition key from the
ignition lock whi le the vehicle is moving .
Otherwise, the stee ring lock co uld sud­
denly engage and you would not be able
to steer the vehicle.
- Always take the key with yo u whenever
you leave your vehicle . Otherwise , the
engine could be started or e lectr ica l
equipment such as the power w indows could be operated
. This can lead to seri­
ous injury.
- Never leave children or persons req uiring
assistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote
transmitter, preventing people from es­ caping from the veh icle on their own in
the event of a n emergency. Depending
on the time of year, peop le inside the ve­
h icle can be exposed to very high or very
low temperatu res.

heavy engine loads unti l the engine has

- If the key cannot be removed from the
ign ition lock, yo u have to pull t he me­
chanical key o ut o f the mas ter key in or­
der to be able to lock the vehicle

-Aft er s tarting a col d engine, there may
be a brief period of inc reased noise be ­
cause the oil pressure must first bui ld up
in the hydraulic valve ad justers . This is
n ormal and not a cause for concern.
- If you leave the vehicle with the ignition
switched on, the ignit ion w ill switch off
after a certain per iod of t ime. Please
note that electrical equ ipment such as
exterior lights will sw itch off as well
when that happens .

Starting the vehicle with the emergency
key
You can use the emergency key as an ignition
key in an emergency.

~ Take the adapter for the emergency key out
of the glove compartment

~ Push the emergency key c:> fig. 98 fully into
the adapter . Make sure that the Audi r ings
are facing up.
~ Press the emergency key in the adapter
down until it latches audibly .
~ Insert the adapter with the emergency key
forward into the ignition switch . The engine
can now be started as usual.
Stopping the engine
~ Bring the vehicle to a full stop .
~ Move the selector lever to the P or N pos i­
t ion .
~ Press on the ignition key. The engine is
turned off.
~ You can now remove the key.

Steering lock
The steering locks when yo u remove the ig ni­
tion key. The lo cked steering helps prevent ve ­
hicle theft .
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unusual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the veh icle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period .
A WARNING
-Never turn off the engine before the ve­
hicle has come to a comp lete stop. The
full funct ion of the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed . You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary. Because you cannot steer and
brake as you usually would, this could
lead to crashes and ser ious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you should always
pa rk your vehicle with the selector lever
in P . Otherwise, the vehicle could inad ­
verten tly roll away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run fo r
up to 10 minutes even after you have
turned off the engine and removed the ignition key. The radiator fan can a lso
turn on again if the engine coo lant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle. Otherw ise, the
engine could be started or electrical
equipment such as the power windows
could be operated . This can lead to seri­
ous injury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring
assistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote
transmitter, preven ting people from es­
caping from the veh icle on their own in
the event of an emergency . Depending
on the time of year, peop le inside the ve ­
hicle can be exposed to very high or very
low temperatures.

If the engine has been under heavy load
for an extended period, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine
is switched off -there is a risk of damaging
the engine. Allow the engine to run at idle
for about two minutes before switching it
off.
