tire
Onboard tool kit and vehicle jack
The vehicle tools and vehicle jock* ore stored in
the luggage comportment under the floor cover.

The onboard tool k it includes:
- Hook for removing wheel covers*
- Plastic hook to remove wheel bolt covers*
- Alignment pin for changing wheels
- Wheel bolt wrench
- Folding chocks
- Screwdriver with revers ible blade
- Socket (removable Torx socket)*
- 10 x 13 open ended wrench (for disconnecting
the battery cables)
- Towing eye
A WARNING
Improper use of the vehicle jack* can cause
ser ious personal injuries.
- Never use the jack* supplied with your Aud i
on another vehicle, particularly on a heavier
one. The jack* is only su itable for use on the
vehicle it came w ith.

- Using a bumper jack to raise the vehicle will
damage the bumper system. The jack may
slip, caus ing injury.
- Never support your vehicle on cinder blocks,
bricks or other objects. These may not be
able to support the load and could cause in­
jury when they fail.
- Never start or run the engine while the vehi­
cle is supported by the jack* .
- If you must work under the vehicle, always
use safety stands specifically designed for
this purpose.
- Never use the hexagonal socket in the han­
dle of the screwdr iver to loosen or tighten
the wheel bolts .
- Always make sure the inflatab le spare tire*
and even a flat tire are secured in place and
not loose, otherwise they could fly forward,
causing personal inj ury to passenge rs in the
vehi cle in an a cc ident or sudden maneuve r.
@ Tips
The vehicle jack in your vehicle is mainte­
nance-free.
Folding chocks
The folding chocks ore port of the on board tool
kit .

-The chock cannot fulfil its function and may
lose its stability if the "tabs" on the support
plate a re not inserted correctly into the
elongated holes in the base plate. If th is
happens, the vehicle may sta rt to move
wh ile a wheel is being changed.
- Never use the fold ing chocks if they are
damaged or if they have not been assem­
bled co rrectly.
Removing bass box
Appl ies to: vehicles wit h bass box
Before the inflatable spare tire* can be token
out, the bass box must be removed.

eter when it is inflated .

After using the inflatable spare wheel
The inflatable spare tire can be re-used as long as
it is not damaged and is not worn down to the
tread wea r indicators ¢.&, .
When you let the a ir out of the inf latab le spare
t ir e, it does not assume its folded shape again for
severa l hours . Unt il then, it cannot be placed
back i n the spare wheel well and stowed securely.

_& WARNING
- Never use the spare tire if it is damaged or if
it is worn down to the tread wear indicators .
- If the inflatable spare tire is more than 6
years old, use it only in an emergency and
with extreme caut ion and careful driving.
- The inflatable spare tire is intended only for
temporary and short-term use . It should be
replaced as soon as poss ible with the nor­
mal wheel and tire.
- The tire pressure value for the inflatable
spare tire is located on the driver's s ide B­
pillar
~ page 240, fig. 205.
- Max imum permissible speed is SO mph
(80 km/h).
- Avoid full-throttle accelerat ion, heavy brak­
ing, and fast cornering.
- When the air is let out of the inflatable
spare wheel, it does not ass ume its folded
shape for several hours . Until then, it can­
not be placed back in the spare wheel well
and stowed sec urely .
- Never dr ive with more than one inflatable
spare tire.
- For technical reasons, the use of tire chains
on the inflatab le spare tire is not perm itted.
If it is necessa ry to drive w ith tire chains,
the in flatable spare wheel m ust be mounted
on the front ax le in the event of a flat in a
rear tire. The newly avai lab le front wheel
must then be installed in place of the rear
wheel w ith the flat tire. Installing the tire
chain before mounting the wheel and tire is
recommended .
- Loose items in the passenger compartment
can cause ser ious personal injury during
hard braking or in an accident . Never store
the inflatable spare t ire or jac k* and tools in
the passenger compartment.
0 Note
- The inflatable spare tire has been developed
spec ifically for this vehicle model. It must
not be exchanged or used for other vehicle
models. Similarly, inflatable tires from oth­
er vehicle models mus t no t be used.

- Norma l summer or winte r tires must not be
installed on the inflatable tire rim .
Inflating inflatable spare tire

Special care is required if you are repairing
the tire on a steep incline.
@ Tips
- Do not operate the compressor for more
than 12 minutes continuously, otherwise it
can overheat. Once the compressor has
cooled, you can continue to use it.
- If sealant has spi lled out, let it dry and then
you can remove it by peeling it away like a
foil.
- Remember to obtain a new bott le of sealant
from your authorized Audi dealer after re­
pair ing a tire. After this, the functionality of
the tire repair set is restored .
- Obey all laws.
Replacing wheels
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your own
and your passenger's safety when changing a
wheel.
"" After you experience a tire failure, pull the car
well away from moving traff ic and try to reach
level ground before you stop¢_& .

A WARNING
You or your passengers cou ld be inj ured while
changing a wheel if you do not follow these
safety precautions:
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance
off the road. Turn off the engine, turn the

emergency flashers on and use other wa rn­
ing dev ices to alert other motorists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traff ic.
- To help prevent the veh icle from moving
suddenly and possib ly slipping off the jack*,
always fully set the parking brake and block
the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel be­ i n g changed with the fold ing c hocks or oth­
er objects . When one front whee l is lifted
off the ground, placing the Automatic
Transmission in P (Park) w ill
not prevent the
veh icle from moving.
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the
gro und is leve l and firm.
If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack*.
- Always s tore the vehicle too l kit, the jack*
and the replaced tire in the lugg age com­
partment

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence
described below s tep-by -step and in exactly that
order.
1. Remove the de corative wheel cover* . For

After changing a wheel
A wheel change is not complete without the do­
ing the following .
.. Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack* and
the replaced tire in the luggage compartment
c:>page 136 .
.. As soon as possible, have the tightening tor­
ques
on all wheel bolts checked with a torque
wrench. The correct t ightening torque is
105 ft lb (140 Nm) .
.. Have the flat tire
replaced as soon as possible.
(j) Tips
- If
you notice that the wheel bolts are cor­
r oded and difficu lt to turn while changing a
tire, they should be replaced before you
check the tightening torque.
- Drive at reduced speed until you have the
tightening torques checked.
Decorative wheel covers
Applies to: vehicles with decorative wheel covers
The decorative wheel covers must be removed
first to access the wheel bolts.

Wheels with wheel bolt caps
Applies to: vehicles with wheel bolts with caps
The cops must be removed first from the wheel
bolts before the bolts con be unscrewed .

Removing
.. Push the plastic clip provided with the vehicle
tool kit over the wheel bolt cap until it engages .
.. Pull on the
plastic clip to remove the cap

Refitting
.. Place the caps over the whee l bolts and push
them back on.
The caps are to protect and keep the wheel bo lts
clean.
Loosening and tightening the wheel bolts
The wheel bolts must be loosened before raising
the vehicle.

wheel - you can cause the vehicle to slip off

before you raise the vehicle with

@ Tips
If a wheel bolt is very tight, you may find it
easier to loosen by carefu lly pushing down on
the end of the wheel bo lt wrench with
one
foot only.
As you do so, hold on to the car to
keep your balance and take care not to slip.
Raising the vehicle
The vehicle must be li~ed with the jack* first be­
fore the wheel can be removed .

-Position the jack* only at the designated
lifting points and align the jack *. Other­
wise, the jack* could slip and cause an in­
jury if it does not have sufficient hold on
the vehicle .
- A soft or unstable surface under the jack*
may cause the vehicle to slip off the jack*.
Always provide a firm base for the jack* on
the ground. If necessary, use a sturdy
board under the jack*.
- On hard, s lippery surface (such as tiles)
use a rubber mat or similar to prevent the
jack* from slipping.
- To help pre vent injury to you rself and you r
passengers:
- Do not raise the vehicle until you are sure
the jack* is securely engaged.
- Passengers must not remain in the vehicle
when it is jacked up.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic.
- Make sure jack position is correct, adjust
as necessary and then continue to raise
the jack *.
(D Note
Do not lift the vehicle by the sill. Position the
jack * only at the designated lifting points on
the sill. Otherwise, your vehicle will be dam­
aged.

Taking the wheel off/installing the inflatable spare tire
Follow these instructions step-by-step for chang­
ing the wheel

After you have loosened all wheel bolts and
raised the vehicle off the ground, remove and re­
place the wheel as follows:
Removing the wheel
.,. Use the hexagonal socket in the screwdriver
handle
to completely remove the topmost
wheel bolt and set it aside on a
clean surface

.. Screw the threaded end of the alignment pin
from the tool kit hand-tight into the empty bolt
hole

~ Use the hexagonal socket in the screwdriver
handle to screw in and tighten all whee l bolts
slightly .
~ Remove the alignment pin and insert and tight­
en the remaining wheel bolt slightly like the
rest .
~ Turn the jack handle* counter-clockwise to low­
er the vehicle until the jack* is fully released .
~ Use the wheel bolt wrench to tighten all wheel
bolts firmly
Q page 256. Tighten them cross­
wise,
from one bolt to the (approximately) op­
posite one, to keep the wheel centered .
Q) Note
When removing or installing the whee l, the
rim could hit the brake rotor and damage the
rotor. Work carefu lly and have a second per­
son help you.
(D Tips
Never use the hexagonal socket in the handle
of the screwdriver to loosen or tighten the
wheel bolts.
- Pull the reversible blade from the screwdriv ­
er before you use the hexagonal socket in
the handle to turn the wheel bolts.
- When mounting tires w ith
unidirectional
tread design
make sure the tread pattern is
pointed the right way
Q page 259.
- The wheel bolts should be clean and easy to
turn. Check for d irt and corrosion on the
mating surfaces of both the wheel and the
hub. Remove all dirt from these surfaces be­
fore remount ing the wheel.
Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be
mounted with their tread pattern pointed in the
right direction .
Using a spare tire with a tread pattern
intended for use in a specific direction
When using a spare t ire with a tread pattern in­
tended for use in a specific direction, please note
the following:
- The direct ion of rotat ion is marked by an arrow
on the side of the tire.
Emergency assistance
- If the spare tire has to be installed in the incor­
rect direction, use the spare tire on ly tempora­
r il y since the tire will not be able to ac hieve its
optimum performance characterist ics with re­
gard to aquap lan ing, no ise and wear.
- We recommend that you pay part icu lar atten­
tion to th is fact during wet weather and that
you adjust your speed to match road cond i­
tions.
- Rep lace the flat tire w ith a new one and have it
installed on your veh icle as soon as possible to
restore the handling advantages of a un id irec­
tional tire .
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the information Qpage 237, New
tires or wheels
if you are going to use a spare tire
which is different from the tir es on your veh icle.
After you change a tire:
- Check the tire pressure on the spare immedi­
ately after installation.
- Have the wheel bolt tightening torque
checked with a torque wrench as soon as pos­
sible by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop.
- With steel and alloy wheel rims, the wheel
bolts are correctly tightened at a torque of
105
ft lb (140 Nm).
- If you notice that the wheel bolts are corroded
and difficult to turn while changing a tire,
they should be replaced before you check the
tightening torque.
- Replace the flat tire with a new one and have
it installed on your vehicle as soon as possi­
ble. Remount the wheel cover.
Until then, drive with extra care and at reduced
speeds.

were fac tory installed, then be sure to read

ment and are not loose in the passenger
compartment.
- In an accident or sudden maneuver they
could fly forward, injuring anyone in the ve ­
hicle.
- Always store damaged wheel, jack* and
tools securely in the luggage compartment .
Otherwise, in an accident or sudden maneu­
ver they could fly forward, causing injury to
passengers in the vehicle .

today's automobiles, have steadily reduced the
scope of maintenance and repairs which can be
carried out by vehicle owners.
Also, safety and
environmental
concerns place very strict limits
on the nature of repairs and adjustments to en­
gine and transmission parts which an owner can perform .
Maintenance, adjustments and repairs usually re­
quire special tools, testing devices and other
equipment available to specially trained work ­
shop personnel in order to assure proper per­
formance, reliability and safety of the vehicle and
its many systems.
Improper maintenance, adjustments and repairs
can impair the operation and reliability of your
vehicle and even void your vehicle warranty .
Therefore, proof of servicing in accordance with
the maintenance schedule may be a condition for upholding a possible warranty claim made within
the warranty period.
Above all , operational safety can be adversely af­
fected, creating unnecessary risks for you and
your passengers.
If in doubt about any servicing, have it done by
your authorized Audi dealer or any other properly equipped and qualified workshop. We strongly urge you to give your authorized Audi dealer the
opportunity to perform all scheduled mainte­ nance and necessary repairs. Your dealer has the
facilities, original parts and trained specialists to keep your vehicle running properly .
Performing limited maintenance yourself
The following pages describe a limited number of
procedures which can be performed on your vehi­
cle with ordinary tools, should the need arise and
trained personnel be unavailable. Before per­
forming any of these procedures, always thor­
oughly read all of the applicable text and careful­ ly follow the instructions given . Always rigorously
observe the
WARNINGS provided .
Before you check anything in the engine com­
partment, always read and heed all WARNINGS
c::> .&. and c::> .&. in Working in the engine compart­
ment on page 217 .
Consumer information
A WARNING
-Serious personal injury may occur as a result
of improperly performed maintenance, ad ­
justments or repairs .
- Always be extremely careful when working
on the vehicle. Always follow commonly ac­
cepted safety practices and general com­
mon sense. Never risk personal injury.
- Do not attempt any of the maintenance,
checks or repairs described on the following pages if you are not fully familiar with these
or other procedures with respect to the ve­ hicle, or are uncertain how to proceed.
- Do not do any work without the proper tools
and equipment. Have the necessary work
done by your authorized Audi dealer or an­
other properly equipped and qualified work­
shop.
- The engine compartment of any motor vehi­ cle is a potentially hazardous area. Never
reach into the area around or touch the radi­
ator fan.
It is temperature controlled and
can switch on suddenly - even when the en­
gine is off and the ignition key has been re­
moved . The radiator fan switches on auto­
matically when the coolant reaches a certain
temperature and will continue to run until
the coolant temperature drops.
- Always remove the ignition key before any­
one gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your vehicle with safety
stands if it is necessary to work underneath
the vehicle . The jack* supplied with the vehi­
cle is not adequate for this purpose and
could collapse causing serious personal in­
jury.
- If you must work underneath the vehicle
with the wheels on the ground, always make
sure the vehicle is on level ground, that the
wheels are always securely blocked and that the engine cannot be started.
- Always make sure the transmission selector
lever (automatic transmission) is in P (Park
position) and the park brake is applied.
