Releasing the parking lock using th e
e m erg enc y re leas e
~ To prevent the vehicle from ro lling unintention­
ally, set the parking brake(®}
c> page 80 or
press the brake pedal.
~ There are two slits o n the cover . Position the
screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit in one of
the slits on the cover and pry the cover off .
~ Insert the socket wrench (from the vehicle tool
ki t) into the openi ng
c> fig. 93.
~ T urn the soc ket wrench all the way clockw ise (!)
and press it downward @unti l it locks into
place .
~ Leave the socket wrench inserted i::> .&_.
Re setting the parking lock
~ Press t he b rake peda l and sta rt the eng ine.
~ Keep the brake pedal pressed and engage the
f o llowing se lector lever positions one afte r the
other : "N", "D" and back to "N" .
~ Turn the engine off again .
~ Grasp the socket wrench w ith both hands and
pull it up and out carefully to remove

~ Install the cover .
When the parking lock emergency re lease is
used, the
[O] ind icator light and the "N" selector
lever position turn on in the instrument cluster.

A WARNING
-Only activate the eme rgency re lease while
on a level s urface o r a s light slope.
- T he pa rking lock may only be released us ing
the emergency release if the parking brake
is set.
If i t i s no t fu nct ion ing, secure the ve ­
hicle from rolling using the brake ped al or
ot her s uitab le means, such as blocking a
front and a rear whee l. An unsec ured vehicle
may roll away, wh ich increases the r isk of an
acc ident.
- To reduce the risk of an accident, you m ust
not drive when the emergency re lease is ac­
t ivated.

Trail er to wing
- Set the a ir suspension to the standard vehi ­
cle height, otherwise the applicab le tongue
weight no longer applies to your vehicle.

trailer is loaded .
- We recommend also having the vehicle in­
spected between the inspection intervals if
you are towing a trai ler frequent ly .
- Avo id driving with a trailer d uring the vehi ­
cle break-in period .
Driving with a trailer
Driving with a trailer requires extra caution .
Speed
Adhere to the legal speed limits. Follow the legal
regulat ions spec ific to the country.
As the speed increases, the driving stability of
the trailer decreases . Therefore you should not
exceed the maximum legal speed l imit whe n
there a re unfavorabl e road, weathe r and/or wind
conditions. This especially appl ies when dr iv ing
downhill.
You must always reduce you r speed as soon as
you not ice even the s lightest sw inging motion of
the t railer. Neve r try to "straighte n ou t" the t rail­
e r by accelera ting.
The weight distribution is very poor if t he veh icle
is empty and the t railer is loaded . H oweve r if you
m ust dr ive under these c ircumstances, t hen d rive
espec ially slowly.
Brakes
Brake in a t imely manner . Downshift before driv­
i n g downhill so that the engine can assist w ith
b raking

When us ing a tra iler with overrun brakes, first
brake gently then qu ickly . This reduces the risk of
je rk ing w hile brak ing if the tra ile r w heels lock up .
Engine coolant temperature
Pay attention specif ica lly to the coolant tempera­
ture display when there are h igh outside tempe r­
atures, and when dr iv ing o n long inclines

A WARNING
Constant braking causes the brakes to over­
heat and substantially reduces braking per­
formance, increases braking distance or caus­
es complete failure of the brake system.

When the vehicle is stationary, the exit warning
system warns the passengers of a possible colli ­
sion when opening the door . Within the limits of
the system, the system monitors the areas be­
hind and next to the vehicle using the radar sen­
sors
¢ page 121, fig. 121 . Moving objects that
are approaching from behind, such as cars, are
detected ¢ fig. 122.
If you open the door and a critical situation is de­
tected, the door handle frame on the affected door will
blink ¢ fig. 123 and the display in the
outside mirror on the same side also appears. If
the door is already open and another road user is
detected and the situation is classified as critical
J
then the corresponding displays turn on.
A WARNING
-
- Always pay attention to traffic and to the
area around your vehicle . The exit warning
system does not replace the attention of the
passengers. The vehicle passengers are al­
ways responsible for opening the doors and
exiting the vehicle .
Assistance systems
-The exit warning system can be available for
up to approximately three minutes after un­
locking the vehicle and opening the door as
well as after switching off the ignition . Then
the system switches off with a brief flashing
of the displays.
- The exit warning system does not respond to people and cannot warn you about every
type of approaching objects, such as cy­ clists. Always monitor the traffic as well as
the vehicle's surroundings with direct eye contact.
A WARNING
= -
The exit warning system is subject to limita-
tions and cannot warn you before every im­
pending collision:
- If the vehicle is too wide for the parking
space and covered by the neighboring
vehicles.
- Approaching objects or people such as cy­
clists or skateboarders may not be detected
under certain circumstances.
- The system does not react to stationary ob­
jects.
- The view of the radar sensors may be im­
paired by leaves, snow, heavy spray or dirt.

it shows a good, clea r pictu re . For example,
the image may be affected by the sun shin­ i n g into the lens, dirt on the lens, o r if the re
is a malfunction.
-U se the rearv iew came ra o nly if the luggage
compa rtment lid is comp letely closed. Make
sure any objects you may have mo unted on
the l uggage compartment lid do not block
the rea rview camera .
- The camera lens enlarges and distorts the field of vision. The object appears both a l­
tered and inaccurate on the screen.
- In ce rtain situations, people o r objects in
the display appear closer or farther away :
- Fo r o bjects tha t do not touch the ground,
such as the bumper of a parked veh icle, a
trailer hitch o r the rear of a truck . Do no t
u se the orie nta tion l ines in th is case.
- If driven from a level surface onto an in­
cl in e, or a downwar d slope.
- If driven toward protruding objec ts.
- If the vehicle is car rying too much load in
the rear .

Intelligent Technology Electronic Stabilization
Control (ESC)
Description
Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) supports
driver safety. It reduces the risk of slipping and improves driving stability. ESC detects critica l sit­
uations such as when the vehicle is oversteering
and understeering or the wheels are spinning.
The vehicle is stabilized by applying the brakes or
reducing eng ine torque. When the ESC engages,
the
D.1 ind icator light blinks in the instrument
cluste r.
The follow ing systems are integrated in the ESC:
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
ABS prevents the wheels from locking when brak ­
ing. The vehicle can still be steered even during
hard braking. Apply steady pressure to the brake
pedal. Do not pump the pedal. A pulsing in the
brake pedal indicates that the system is acting to
stabilize the vehicle .
Brake assist system
The brake assist system can decrease braking dis­
tance. It increases braking power when the driver
presses the brake pedal quickly in emergency sit­
uations . You must press and hold the brake pedal
until the dangerous situat ion is over . In veh icles
with adapt ive c ruise control*, the brake assist
system is more sensitive if the distance detected
t o the vehicle dr iv ing ahead is too small.
Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)
ASR reduces engine power when the drive wheels
beg in sp inning and adapts the force to the road
conditions . This makes it easie r to start, acceler­
ate and dr ive up hill s.
Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)
EDL applies the brakes to a wheel that starts
spinning and transfers the drive power to the
other driving wheels. This funct ion is not availa­
b le at higher speeds.

In extreme cases, EDL automatica lly switches off
to keep the brake on the braked whee l from over ­
heating. The vehicle is still working correctly. ED L
will switch on again automatically when condi­
tions have returned to normal.
Power steering
The ESC can also support vehicle stability
through steering .
Selective wheel torque control
Selective wheel torque control is used when driv­
in g on curves. Brak ing is targeted toward the
whee ls on the inside of the curve as needed. This
a llows more precise driving in curves.
Automatic post-collision braking system
The "automatic post-collis io n braking system"
can help to reduce the risk of sl iding and of addi­
tional collisions after an accident. If the airbag
contro l modu le detects a collision, the vehicle is
braked by the ESC.
The vehicle does not brake automatically if:
-the driver presses the accelerator pedal, or
-the ESC, the brake system or the veh icle electri-
cal system are not functioning.
A WARNING
-The ESC and its integrated systems cannot
overcome the lim its imposed by natura l
p hys ical laws. Th is is espec ially impo rtant
on slippery or wet roads. If the systems be­
gin acting to stabilize your vehicle, you
should immediately alter your speed to
match the road and traffic conditions. Do
not let the increased safety provided tempt
you into taking risks. This could increase
your r isk of a coll is ion.
-Please note the risk of a collision increases
when dr iv ing fast, especially through curves
and on slippery or wet roads, and when dr iv­
ing too close to objects ahead . The ESC and
its integrated systems cannot always pre­
ve nt co llisions
-there is still a risk of acci­
dents!

Intelligent Technology
A WARNING
You should only switch offroad mode on or
switch ESC/ ASR
off if your driving abilities
and the traff ic conditions perm it. There is a
r isk of slid ing.
- The stabilization function is limited when
offroad mode is switched on. The driving
wheels cou ld spin and the vehicle could
swerve, espec ially on slick or slippery road
surfaces.
- There is no vehicle stab ilizat ion when ESC/
ASR are switched
off .
Hill descent assist
Hill descent assist makes it possible to drive
down a hill at a constant speed.

Hill descent ass ist brakes all fo ur whee ls auto ­
mat ically in o rder to limit speed when dr iving ei­
ther forward or reverse on hills with a g rade from
approximately 6 to 60%. The wheels wi ll not lock
up because the ABS remains activated .
When hill descent ass ist is on, the speed yo ur ve­
hicle was traveling when it ente red the hill is
maintained .
It is only possible to switch on the
assist when driving slower than 37 mph (60 km/
h). The assist begins shortly after you start driv­
ing and continues up to approximate ly 19 mph
(30 km/h) . The driver can increase or decrease
the vehicle speed with in these limits by pressing
the accelerator or brake pedal.

Active regulation of a speed up to approximate ly
19 mph (30 km/h) is signaled in the instrument

The system does not work at speeds between ap­
proximately 19 and 37 mph (30 and 60 km/h).
The system is then in ready-mode. Th is is indicat­
ed by the LED in the button turning on. The sys­
tem automat ically switched off when you dr ive
faster than 37 mph (60 km/h) . The LED w ill also
turn off in this scenar io .
Hill descent assist is automatically activated un­
der the follow ing condit ions:
- the LED in the button turns on
- the vehicle speed is lower than 19 mph (30 km/
h)
-the hill angle is at leas t approximate ly 6%
A WARNING
- Always adapt your speed to the weathe r,
road and traffic conditions . Do not let the
increased safety provided tempt you into
taking risks, because this increases the risk
of an accident .
- The hill descent assist system cannot over­
come the laws of phys ics. Your driving style
must always be adapted to the current road
and traffic cond itions .
- Hill descent ass ist may not be ab le to hold
your veh icle at a constant speed under all
conditions while dr iv ing on a hill (fo r exam­
p le if ground under the vehicle is loose).
Brakes
New brake pads
-
New brake pads do not achieve their full braking
effect during the first 250 mi (400 km). They
must be "broken in" first . H owever, you can com ­
pensate for the slightly reduced braking force by
pressi ng fi rml y on t he brake pedal. Avo id heavy
braking during the break-in period .

you can access various information or use individ­

myAudi .
Audi connect vehicle control includes the follow­

The Dr iver Informat ion System collects data un­
der certain conditions and sends it to a server.
When data is sto red, you can access va lues such
as these using the service :

-Fuel tank level,
-Oil level,
-If the vehicle doors are open/closed or locked/
un locked,
-mi leage,
-Next oil change
-Next service,
-Warning messages,
-If the parking lights are on/off .
A WARNING
Do not ignore messages and warning or ind i­
cator lights that turn on in the vehicle be­
cause of the info rmation in the status report.
This could lead to break downs in on the road ,
accidents and serious injuries.
Parking location
Applies to vehicles w it h Aud i connect ve hicle co ntrol
The vehicle collects data unde r ce rta in cond it ions
and sends it to a server .
When data is stored, you can access values such
as these using the service :
-Vehicle location display
-Display of one's own location
-Route to your vehicle
If your mob ile dev ice also has a navigation func­
tion, you can nav igate to your last known parking
l ocation.
Deactivating and activating parking position
